Got stuck in a meeting this Monday for two and a half hours, and its relevance to me was really in question... so I drew my boss while I sat wondering what I was doing there.

Funny how a line drawing looks okay (well, okay, passable) but the flaws come out when you try to flesh it out and piece the parts all together. I think the features are so long and drawn out on this one, something that didn't seem apparent until I tried to paint it.

Distracting your eyes with 80s colors isn't working either. Okay, at least I tried, haha!

Forgotten Friday

I totally blanked because I resized some images on Friday and thought I had done my drawing for the day. This is my catch-up quickie, done Saturday morning. Later in the evening, I tried to revisit and flesh it out.

I got into bed on Thursday, and then jumped up out of it when I realized I hadn't drawn anything. Needless to say I had no energy but damned if I wasn't going to do something.

My new work schedule has resulted in me doing craptastic drawings - I'm in bed hours earlier (and more tired!) than I ever used to be, and the energy levels show in my work of late. I haven't done a really full-on piece lately, but I suppose I should be thankful I'm doing anything t all and keeping up with the daily drawing. This was Wednesday's piece. Or lack thereof.

Short Spray 2

Short Spray

My trainer was AWOL this weekend, having friends over from out of town he wanted to spend time with so I went through a more leisurely pace at the gym. I was watching music videos oon the screen between reps and saw one with a black woman who had a short spray of hair like this. Well, this sketch isn't of her, but the hair was inspired by her.

Can you tell I wasn't feeling it Saturday? The title says it all. A friend was going through stuff and I was emphathizing so much I myself felt miserable (funny how that can happen) so I was laying low all weekend.

I used to have these cartoon characters called Monstro and Jasie, an enormous evil cat and a frail, tiny dog respectively. I think this is the first time I've drawn any of them in decades.

Beetlejew, 2

I thought I'd tinker a bit. But just a bit.

I was crossing the street and had this bizarre image pop into my head. I should probably do a finer rendering, maybe try for some odd, John Derian-eque goth illo, but this was the idea.

Summertime ed-dNA!

What's funny is these kinds of critters look more naked when you give them some clothes.

This for Senen and his memories of the Bimbo Birds.

I went to the NY Gift Show today and they had a new line of cards and paper goods featuring the sketches of couturier Christian Lacroix. I love how Lacroix sketches, but it's so far from my own styl... but worth taking a stab at aping.

Phase Value 4

Okay, I wrote too soon. I went all 80s on this, adding backgrounds like I used to when I worked in pastel. It's very dated and 80s, but that's my style that I grew up with, plus it's all trendy now, 20+ years later.

Phase Value 3

I met a very blond guy the other day, and his blond brows were a detail I incorporated into this sketch. I think this is as far as this sketch is going.

Phase Value 2

Just a few more strokes to flesh out the face. I like his profile.

Phase Value

I was listening to music and just doodling automatically. Didn't have much energy with all the work I've been doing on the design front, so this was a quick profile. I do like how it came out in this chalk tool.

I'm SO not Web 2.0

I can barely manage this glossy style of web iconography. Ugh. I'm such a low-res dinosaur. I guess it's juuuust not my style. I can't believe how long it took me to make this - like, 1 hour! Ugh. That is SO not a cost-effective way to design. But, well, it IS a drawing...

I've always loved that image of Storm letting loose on Polaris from Uncanny X-men #97, and I had the idea of doing a redux of it with me in the title role. This was the beginnings of it. I was thinking it might make a unique Facebook profile pic. :)

Thinking this kid had to be an albino for some reason...

This image just formed out of nowhere, not that I mind. Seems like there's a story behind it.

Tired & Inebriated

Had several glasses of red wine after a long and exhausting workout, and I'm suddenly effete both physically and emotionally. So this is all I can manage.

Critter Swarm, 5

This is turning into a memory device to see how many of my childhood critters I can recall and stuff into the picture. Two days' ago's entry is a hoplibird, birds that gestate too long in their eggs so they never lose the egg shape, and therefore have to hop to get anywhere.

Critter Swarm, 4

Continuing the tableau that is a thinly-veiled excuse to do very little, I've added drunken rat on the bottom.

Critter Swarm, 3

The yellow Cockatooka on the side was one of Joanne's creations, I think. They had such a huge crest on their heads that their tiny wings couldn't steer them in flight, so they ended up always getting blown off course. They would always have an angry expression on their faces when they landed, followed by a, "Where the hell did I end up NOW?!" thought. The Queebee on the right was also constntly confused, because it was half parrot, half potato, and didn't know whether it should fly or root itself to the ground.

Yes, we came up with a ton of these things throughout high school and college. We had a LOT of free time.

Critter Swarm, 2

So are these silly things running to or from me? With my current (much more jovial) mood, I'm not sure.

Back when I was a kid, I thought the word "Bimbo" was really funny (it was because of the movie "Student Body," an "Airplane!"-style riff on teen slasher flicks). I thought it meant something akin to "dumb prostitute." So these Bimbo birds were named... and for some reason, the sound they make is "Ed-Na." My friends Senen, Joanne and Stella are probably the only ones who were aware of this stupid fact.

Critter Swarm

I kinda like just adding a new critter each day - especially since I've been designing web pages and as I've explained in previous posts, sometimes you only have so much creative energy for one kind of thing. So to just do something quick and stupid (and thematic) is easier. I added a Feeshytheeng.

FreeEeeeeeEE! With Fruit Snake. And Pignarat. And BouncyCat.

Quick Doodle

I was trying to draw Cat Deeley's very prim look while watching the results show for So You Think You Can Dance. No, I don't think it worked out very well, haha. So I made her into a drag queen.
