Wabby's Friend Heron

Wabby and her friend Heron are captivated by the birthday party's balloon animal hostess.

This one was my favorite one from Tuesday. Hehe.

Cass' Friend Heron

Casius and his friend Heron rendezvous at Columbus Circle.

This was one of Monday's drawings. I actually made a few more but will publish this one for then. :)

Imperfect

I tried to draw an imperfect young boy.... but I lost interest halfway through, haha

Your Friend Heron

More Heron Facebook madness!

Back to Sleep

I was falling asleep as I drew this, so I really didn't do much with it... it's such a terrible sketch. But that's what I did for Friday!

Heron

I'm really getting into this character, haha!

Brandon's Friend Heron

Brandon liked Heron so much, he's now part of the family.

My Friend Heron

When my Dad was still alive, we always used to make fun of his broken command of the English language. One time, he went on a vacation with his second wife and sent us a pic of a seagull that came close to him, and he called it a "heron". His caption for the pic was"My friend heron" which we thought was so funny in its awkward way. I decided to take some of his vacation pics (which his wife shot really weirdly, because he was always alone in these wide expanses of background, so the vacation looked really lonely) and I played with his 'friend heron' bit and posted it online:

I shared the series with my friend Pete who remarked that he thought the character was funny, and I suddenly thought I should include Heron in various photos I pick up from online... he could be everyone's Friend Heron!

Geller FW2010 v2

Still in the rough stages, but mapping out a style that for some reason is in my head, but I can't get the exact reference. I know it looks familiar, but I can't really say from where or what time period. It feels like a slightly more saturated version of 70s/early 80s men's fashion illustration...

Geller FW2010

I planned on doing a drawing based on my friend Robert's new Fall collection, and this was the pre-sketch I did to get it started. I just realized again, whoa, it's 2010! We're so in the future yet it doesn't really feel like it, does it?

You've Touched me and I've Grown...

That was the cheesy card I bought from that vendor years ago when I was back in college. I was ready to dismiss him/her (I can't recall) because the cards were so heinous, until I got an idea how to warp it to my liking. So the cover was the basic finch with the message written in some cheesy swash font (it was blind embossed in the original) with little cut-out leaves and flowers and blank interiors. I bought the card and then drew on the interior lining and on the opened card, which are the next two drawings.

Finch

I'm trying to recreate a card that my friends and I had fun with back in college, when a vendor came by our hangout on steps beside the kiosk near the FA building, and was peddling blind embossed cards. They were the cheesiest things, but I felt sorry for her and bought one. I then customized the inside to make it more to my liking, then sent it to my brothers in the U.S. It had become the stuff of legend in our family, because it was so silly and unexpected. Joanne should remember this when I finish it.

Bobs Across The Room

During our regular Tuesday morning meetings, I spend most of the nearly 2 hours just listening to the buyers, store managers and money peeps talking about the state of our company's business. So I draw in my notebook to look busy. Across the room from me were three of our sales managers, and they all had similar hairstyles. One of them was blocked by the person in from of me, so I drew the two I could see.

Metal Collar

This is an interesting merging of my comics, fantasy, fashion and current obsession with the chalk tool. I don't seem to be able to draw my metals like I used to, but maybe it's just tonight...

New Stance

I fiddled around with a few details and cleaned up some of the lines and color fields. Not by much, but necessary in my mind. Well, the next day there always seem to be necessary changes...

Stance

My old classmate from college, Oj, was posting pics on Facebook showing how he's tackling watercolors again. While I didn't have the wherewithal to break out the natural media, I was nevertheless inspired to go very loose with a fashion sketch. My problem is that I didn't have an outfit in mind so much as a mood, and so while I wanted it to be modern I ended up going halfway classic at the same time. The dress and hat aren't anything but afterthoughts and not very fashionable at all, but I do love the colors and rough pastel strokes.

Givenchy FW 2010

I loved the makeup that they used in Givenchy's Fall Winter 2010 defilé so I thought I'd do a simple rendering of it. I kinda like how it turned out despite how quickly I put it together, although I'm already looking at it like I want to redo some of the features...

After Mats

I forgot to do a drawing the other day so this is my make-up piece. Still inspired by the makeup look of the new runway shows, I did this one inspired by the style of legendary illustrator Mats Gustafsson.

Violet Homme

I was so tired last night I planned on just drawing a stick figure and calling it a day for my Wednesday drawing. Between running around at the trade show and finally working out really well at the gym for the first time in over two weeks, I was exhausted. But once I started drawing I found the energy to continue the sketch just as a rough doodle, and I'm happy I got to draw something I normally don't set out to do. I just didn't have the wherewithal to post it last night.

George's Boot

Another week, another mind-numbing 8:30 am work meeting. As usual, I was bored out of my skull so I decided to while away some of the time by sketching in my notebook. My co-worker, also named George, was right beside me, so I busied myself by drawing his chukka boot.

Himalayan

There's a new pet shop in my neighborhood, where Roger Roth & Dave, my long-time neighborhood card shop, used to be. Well, I don't have any pets, but growing up I always wanted a Himalayan or a Birman. And they had one in this shop, just roaming around freely! Sooo cute. But it was kinda snobby to me, which for me is unusual since cats usually love me at first sight.

Pen & Ink Torso

I wanted to work off the computer, so I pulled a pad near me thinking I'd be inspired by the natural medium. But you can't force anything, so this one was really a half-hearted sketch.

Soft Eye

When I doodle mindlessly, I tend to do eyes. This one comes courtesy of the chalk brush in Painter - I love how soft it makes any drawing. My rough linework becomes swashes of powdery color.
