Bryan and his friend Heron

Bryan and his friend Heron think that maybe they should have asked for better directions.

(this was Monday's drawing - I forgot to post it since I ...ahem... did it at work).

Eye am

I apparently have very distinctive eyes for my race, since they make me look very Japanese or something. I had a pic taken of me for passport photos and decided to jusst do a quick rendering of one of my eyes. Man, they're so black, and here I thought I had some level of depth to them...! This is actually Tuesday's drawing...

Italians and their friend Heron

I did a Heron pic of my friend Francesco since I had him on my mind, and when I posted it, I didn't get any reaction from him but I did get some enthusiastic response from another Italian friend of his who was insistent I do one of him. After he joined the Facebook group, I did this one.

Roberto and his friend Heron go snowboarding in Jackson Hole.

(This is Saturdays drawing - man, I'm all discombobulated with my posts this year!)

New Ideas

I had a light bulb flash as I left the news agent Saturday after the gym (I frequently stop by the magazine stand nearby to exercise my mind after a long training session). As I was leaving I spied a magazine cover with a man covered in tattoos. I immediately began to deconstruct the image in my head, and it kept getting more and more interesting. Barring taking new photos of a new model, I thought I could probably repurpose some old shots that I never used. This is one of my model Francesco, whom I adore, but whose pics I never got to use because the concept I used them for didn't quite mesh with the final shots I got. Maybe this will be the start of a fun new series.

Haiti

I saw an image of a child from an ad about aid for Haiti, and I was inspired by the colors of the image. While the situation was a horrible one, there was nevertheless inspiration in it for me...

Zee, Face

I just opened up my Zatanna drawing and tried to do a little work on her face, but no real energy last night so this is as far as I got...

Zee

There's a new comic book series coming out for a fave DC Comics character, Zatanna. For some reason, she resonates to many gay men like me, and they've revamped her outfit a bit in a way that I found interesting, but wish the construction were a little more on-point: with the addition of the new cape to her cropped jacket, I wanted to figure out a better way to design the collar and how it resolves into a cape... the comic book has an odd notched label when I think it should be peaked lapel. I started here and left it at that for further exploration later.

Color

I sat next to a woman named Renee at a sushi bar earlier tonight, and we got into a lovely conversation about art, modern times, soul and ethnicity. She was rather beautiful and so well put together that I was inspired to draw something because of her. And while this doesn't look like her, she reminded me of all the fabulous black models I admired back in the 70s and 80s, because we spoke about all her model friends. Interestingly enough last week, I also befriended a former top model from the 80s who is also a beautiful woman of color, so all these fabulous black women are on my mind right now.

Lolicon Girl, Face

I kinda love how the Lolicon girl's face is very un-me - almost goth Betty Page-y. Maybe the dark lines are edging it (pun intended) towards the starker look.

Bordeaux

When in doubt about what's going on in reality, I turn to extranormal sources. A friend gave me an astrological reading two years ago, and I've been hooked ever since, especially since my life has been so rough since then. I'd been re-listening to my most recent readings (I have copies of them as sound files) because of all the recent conflamma in my life, and this was one of those drawings that theoretically should have become more and more detailed as the reading went on.
But I don't seem to have the energy for detailed work lately...

Lolicon 2

This is more what I had in mind. I wasn't planing on putting it up until I got all the details down properly, but I figured enough with the Herons and get back to what I normally do, unfinished or not. Well, for now.

Lolicon

The Japanese concept of Lolicon, or Lolita Complex, is something I encounter a lot when I watch anime. I saw a little girl yesterday, in a typical, classic dress, and I immediately started thinking about how I might subvert that innocence and use it in a more brazen look, as is oft my wont.

Bernie and his friend Heron

Bernie and his friend Heron relax poolside in Cancun.

I've been a bit distracted emotionally lately, what with the ramifications of a possible other friendship ending (ugh, my time for drama much?) so I went to bed really early last night and only did this drawing today. Thank goodness for Heron having the good times that I can't seem to be having myself!

Extensions 2

Extensions

For some reason I decided to play The Manhattan Transfer's Extensions album. As a kid in the 80s, I thought their album cover was the height of style and chic, and this is an homage to it.

Stripped

Yes, I know that a striped shirt is spelled 'striped,' but I'm feeling a bit stripped of everything I hold dear right now, and I'm not sure where it all leads... the job situation is finally changing, but to what I do no know yet, a constant companion of two years is leaving and it may be that we end on bad terms, and my Tuesday morning meeting, the one I'm going to today which will be hopefully the last, always leaves me bereft of energy from being too early... This is a sketch for last night, as I had a dinner party for 6 people and didn't get to finish up until way past 1 am...

Blue In The Face

I still wasn't feeling any drawings... I've been doing a lot of Heron lately and I've lost count of how many I did and when, but considering the backlog I had, I suppose if I did two heron pics in a day, it's like saying I made up for missing a day by doing two the next day. I felt like I needed a break from all the birds, but apparently not with any enthusiasm for anything else...!

Brown Bunny

Considering how many promos we've been doing for the coming holiday, I have Easter on my mind. Not that I wouldn't draw bunnies anyhow.

Meeting Pete

I forgot to post this as a sketch. I was so bored at work during our regular Tuesday meetings that I decided to try and draw my friend Pete from memory. Pete's an online friend who's become very very dear to me, yet we've never met. This is as close as I'll get to sketching him without resorting to using other people's photos (I prefer to interpret people fully by myself ).

It's a crappy drawing but Pete seems to like it... I'm unhappy with it because I don't think it does him justice. And if it doesn't look like him to me, it doesn't do me justice either. But there you have it...
