Regrouping 3 (Slouchy Cap)

Regrouping is kind of an awful title for this drawing series, so I shall subtitle it Slouchy Cap, and hope I don't have to post too much about it and just be done with it soon. I retooled the likeness of the model and once I have the outline to my satisfaction I can repaint it in earnest.

Fishing For Fashion 11

Technically this is the 12th, but I'm letting the 3000th post stand on its own. Working some more on the face and garments here, just undecided how to render that not-too-shiny yellow leather jacket.

3000

I can't believe this is my 3000th post on this blog!  And barely anyone sees it! But that's okay, because this isn't for me to show off, or troll for likes, or try to get famous. This blog is for me to draw, and to keep drawing, regardless of who's watching or not. And for those of you who are watching, I thank you and hope you like what you see.

And I can't believe I was late to post it for yesterday!  Arrrgh.

Love Button

So this one is a bit of a stretch but also still a drawing. I'm working on a project for a client and I wanted to create a fake Facebook style "Love" button. So I did. It's still drawing, although some would argue it's UX design...

Re-Newed Beauty

The runways have experienced more diversity again, and there is a crop of beautiful black girls whose beauty is simple and almost pure. Lineisy is the first that comes to mind, but there's a few that I am finding really gorgeous. Anyhow, this was my attempt to illustrate that beauty without actually copying a photo. Can't say I did them justice but I'll try again...

Tipsy Doodle

I had two glasses of wine and a cocktail tonight, and I find I'm in no condition to attempta serious drawing. So, this.

Juuumpsuit 2

I had developed a croquis because my friends wanted me to render a jumpsuit they were working on, but I never heard back from them about it until a few days ago, when they told me the onesie was no longer on the table. So I have this croquis with nothing to put on him... so I just defines his muscles a bit more...

Insta-Reality

I was surprised to meet and draw someone I already followed on Instagram tonight. I kept looking at him and wondering why he looked familiar, and it turned out I had seen his pics for the past few months. And even if I never studied his features before, they were somehow familiar. Whenonline goes offline.

Hair Curtain

I wanted to do a sketch of hair moving like fabric, like the hair on shampoo ads. except on a guy. And short!

Regrouping 2

Cleaning up the likeness and prepping for painting.

Fishing For Fashion 10

I completely forgot to post last night so I'm doing two entries today. This one was supposed to be more fleshed out than the day before, but after a few quick strokes I rather liked the very immediate quality of the silhouette. So I'm leaving it at that for now.

Fishing For Fashion 9

It's almost Fall so I need to finish these Fall collection illos asap. To wit, need to flesh out the story.

Back To Fall (Fishing For Fashion 8)

This should be actually a continuation of another post but I was rushing to make my midnight deadline to have the entry in the timeline, hence teh title. But I adjusted it.

I added feet to a drawing where I removed the feet. Well, and just one leg, to keep it light.

Regrouping

After so much intensive drawing these past several weeks, I'm loathe to pick up a pen/pencil/stylus and draw something new. I'm in the throes of a creative let down, until I recharge. Hopefully soon. In the meantime, just bits and bobs here and there... like the roughest of beginnings for a new digital watercolor fashion illo.

Wind-blown Venus

I need to do more digital work again - all this pencil drawing has made me miss my digital work.

Showtime

So I had my show, but even if I made this drawing for yesterday, I didn't even bother to post it? Ugh, I am SO out of it after that intense shitload of drawing... This is a makeup post for Sept. 14.

Gellers 4

I thought I made a mistake with the drawing...

Trever

One of the last ones, I had already drawn Trever more carefully in a digital watercolor, but it was deemed unsuitable for my show because of the technique, so I had to redo him in pencil. Fortunately, he has very distinct features so he makes a cool sketch, even if I don't try to get photographic on him...

Gellers, 3

The gorgeous Ana, WIP.

Erwin G, 2

Erwin's one of my closest friends but there's something I'm missing about my sketch of him, that I'm not getting right! This is a late entry for Thursday - went to the gym so late that my schedule was off and I forgot to post, even if I'm drawing a ton! image coming

Joe Body

Man, is he ripped!  I had to include his naked torso as part of his portrait because it's essentially as much a part of him as his facial features.

Erwin G

I've been wanting to draw my good friend Erwin for a while now, but for some reason I had a very hard time with his initial likeness. Finally getting to work on him tonight, 5 days before my show!

Wabby, Done

This one definitely went better, and I decided to finish it up quickly. I just wish my sketches had more personal style than this very street-portrait sketch style I seem to be inadvertently adopting...

Wabby

Did a re-sketch session with my friend Wabs after our first session a few weeks back. This one turned out better.

Donna W F

Got to Skype with and draw an old friend who moved to Cali. It's always fun to connect with Donna. We do so so infrequently but it's inevitably a joy. I think that comes out in the drawing as well. But I tinkered with it after using my screengrabs and now it doesn't look like her. I must fix!

Larry

Crap, I keep forgetting to post on time! And I finished this so early in the day too. This is Larry, my deli guy of the last 23 years. He's really nice and I go to his deli any time I can, even if they might be a few cents more expensive than the supermarket right in front of me. Gotta support our neighborhood businesses!

Zozo 2

Drawing the niece and realizing I don't know her face too well.
