Beene Thinking

I got a book on my favorite American designer of all time, Geoffrey Beene. I remember being in awe of his futuristic aesthetic, that was so specific and so beautful. So I sketched today just like I used to do, doodling away, inspired by the images from the book...

Emo

I found myself on YouTube watching old Emo Phillips clips, and I noted his outfit - and even his hair -  are very much fashion today. So I thought I'd do a rough sketch of it.

Fishing For Fashion 23

There's a pressure (self imposed though it is) for me to finish this before the year ends. It just doesn't seem right to still put out a Fall Winter drawing in the middle of winter, although to be fair, winter kinda just started a day ago in NY...

Safety Pin 2

Want to refine that face further. Didn't like her features. This is better, but still not happy with certain aspects of it. Maybe I'll use a model to try and refine this further. I guess she just looks too much like my normal faces that I draw without references, because, well, she is...

Swooping

I was watching this anime, Garo, and the opening sequence had a very hand-drawn, rough feel, and for some reason I got an image in my head. So this is an attempt at drawing it but of course it's taking a complete life of its own and has become some sort of super heroine swooping into view...

Safety Pin

I was walking back home when I saw a safety pin on the sidewalk, and an image of a gal with an enormous one piercing her face came to mind. And I wanted her holding it like a cigarette. Alors, voila! WIll have to fix her features though - she's a bit too nosy.

Not Sweater Weather

I found a few old sketches I did as art direction for a photo shoot that I thought I'd retool and revisit. Images to come

Fluffit

I was talking to a potential model about his hair and I suggested we fluff it up 80s style, and I sent him an accompanying sketch to illustrate it.

Wilde Fop

A menswear designer collection that I loved for FW 2015 was based on Oscar Wilde, and without referencing and pics, I decided to do a foppish dandy. I'm have to check actual google results to see if I'm anywhere near the ballpark.

Fishing For Fashion 22

Yeah, this keeps going on. I posted a version of this on Instagram and people loved it, and considered it done. I still want to tinker, so this will be an official version, whereas the online Insta version will be an official variant. Thank goodness for versioning in digital work!

Heavy Inks 2

I didn't quite like how it reduced and decided I needed to go into the face more and make it hem a bit more to the original photo even if I wasn't trying for a likeness.

Heavy Inks

I'm enjoying the rougher inks, emulating a bit of a Bill Sienkiewicz from his New Mutants days. It's probably nothing I would maintain for more than just a playful diversion, but it's fun. This was taken from a pic of model Marc Luloh. Doesn't look like him at all but I used the shadows and lighting as a basis for the drawing.

A Single Man

I finally watched A Single Man today after all this time. I think I was hesitant because I'm not a huge fan of Tom Ford in general, even if I think he does really good work. But I wasn't sure where I heard the name of Chris Isherwood, and I only realized after the fact that he was partnered with Don Bachardy, an artist whom I admire, and who served as a consultant or producer on the film. But most specifically, there's a scene in Collin Firth's room where there's a blurry view of a piece of art, and I told myself, that looks like a Don Bachardy. So tonight I was inspired to draw in an inky, splatty retro 60s way. I couldn't decide which lettering style looked better, so I put both up.

Projectra

I found an old file I had last opened on October 16, 2002, a drawing of the Legion of Super Heroes character Princess Projectra. I thought I would try and clean it up and finally finish it, but I found myself changing her features, because I found the face that I drew to be a bit dated. I have no doubt that years from now, the face I draw today will seem dated too. Faces do tend to be of their time too... The blue one is the older one. Seems I even made her look younger...

Hello Deer

I wrapped a Xmas gift but only used recycled older wrappings and trimmings I'd saved. I ended up with an aqua theme as a result, so to tie it all together I used some old watercolor tests as a accent. Since it wasn't Christmassy enough I decided to draw a reindeer for the enclosure card. Well, paint one.

The Long and (Fore)Shortening of It 2

I think the anatomy of the pose has improved a bi, but I'm trying desperately not to make it look like he's sitting on the toilet. And you can't unsee that now, can you?

The Long and (Fore)Shortening of It

I got this pose in my head and tried to render i without a model, but my knowledge of anatomy is pitifully inadequate for teh task. I have the idea of it in my head, but am struggling to get it out. I like the rough better than when it gets more fleshed out, maybe because it looses the flow and spontaneity, while the more details need to be perfectly right or else they're just inaccurate. Argh.

Perfecto, Not So Perfecto

The brush was called Perfecto, but I think I wanted something else for a face. Still, it might be useful for other washier ideas. I tried adding detail with the Detail 1 brush, but I don't love how it all turned out. Ah well.

Euro Comics Liner

Kyle Webster sent out a new brush and I tried it out directly. Its always fun using new materials, digital or not.

Good and Languid

I DO need to add at least one more to this series! I always liked a distant look on my gals, and I suspect it's because I like the way mannequins look like they're somber, and kinda drugged.

Hair Flow 3

This is a bit of a throwback from over a year ago. I did two passes on a photo form the Lanvin menswear SS2015 lookbook but I wasn't happy with the hair rendering I did. This one is better, but I'm still not sure it's a technique I'm satisfied with enough to replicate.

Fleshing out an old rough with mixed results.

Thinking of Kansai

My friend Max is obsessed with Kansai Yamamoto, and he wasn't even alive to experience the height of Kansai. Heck,I was there and I liked his stuff, but I cant recall what it looked like now. So I did a quickie sketch of an Asian-inspired face.

Water Nude

Just playing with a seemingly looser brush, albeit digital.

Pencil Kid 3

Strange how the sketch you had no intention of turning into anything significant will someties become a nice piece that you try to finish off as well as possible. He turned out rather nicely.

Pencil Kid 2

I spent so much time tonight at a party that I didn't have time to get home and draw... so this is a quickie. Except I retooled it a lot in the morning so it' started developing beyond a quickie. He kinda reminds me of a young Tom Cruise in a way, which is a bit distressing because I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise.

Pencil Kid

I started out drawing a girl with the a pencil brush, but quickly decided he should be a young-ish male model. I'm too sick to really do much... seem to have come down with a bad cold that's making the rounds. And my joints are all achey... ugh.

Soft Curves

Went to a mannequin showroom party earlier tonight and had a great time hanging out with friends and friends friends, and dissecting mannequin collections. So I tried to draw one of the poses but I didn't have much luck, although using this "oil soft and smooth brush" is pretty fun.

Demigodness 2

I was playing with it but I dunno if I think the additions are improvements.

Demigodness

The semi-ant's eye view has been very popular in Fashion photography in recent years, so I'm constantly angling my drawings that way. And when it's a (nearly) naked male body, it's always a sex thang. I love me a demi god...
