Black Is Beautiful

I was inspired partly by my watercolor brushes, partly by Black History Month. I think she turned out nicely, especially since it was going to be one of those "I have to post anything so just chrun something out" drawings. But inspiration can surprise you.

Fishing For Fashion 26

Yeah, again. But this is closer to final form than I've ever felt it before, and a more appropriate representation of the fashion show, namely the oversized beanie that I even bought as a gift for a friend (unfortunately - or maybe fortunately - it didn't look good on me). All the white space previously made for a nice drawing but not for an accurate illustration of the fashion I was portraying. I cropped off the sweater graphic because it was throwing me off, and that helped a lot. I'd still like to include it but it may have to go for the sake of a better drawing.

Redline

After yesterday's intensive animation, I was thinking of doing a throwaway quick sketch, but I think this one turned out rather nice. The "Red Marker" brush made me want to do something that felt very immediate and stylized.

Happy Max Day!

It's my friend Max's birthday today (where he is now, in Japan) and tomorrow here in the US, so I posted this gif I made of him scooting through his greeting. I dunno if a gif will play on blogger, but I'll find out after I post.

OMG, it plays!

Max is Going Places!

My buddy Max gets around on a scooter a lot, and it's his birthday in a couple of days so I thought I'd draw him an animated gif. (working on it - this is a prelim)

Yellow Ear

The painted faces and skin at the Siki show this past FW16 runway shows was one of the more interesting things to shoot backstage before they got dressed. There's usually a painted element at Siki, IIRC. PLus this particular model was super built, more worked out than your usual male runway model at the downtown shows.

Anarchy Mode 3

This sketch needs working on. It's something I have a somewhat clear idea about so why not? I just need to get the model's face right before I start adding the colors and makeup. He's not your typical beauty, especially in this stage of the sketch, hehe.

Go Longo

My search for unique poses for the Go West series (which I wonder if I'll just merge with this) is turning into a Robert Longo pose fest!I'm drawing awkward views like the now-classic artist, whom I've always admired. A pic only showed only a torso view, but I extrapolated a pose out of it. I rather like it.

Go West 2

I was inspired by outfits in Go West's Call Me and Don't Look Down videos but for some reaosn had these very specific poses in mind for the body language. Maybe it will have to be cropped or I just don't have the leg positions right...

Go West

It's been long enough since my youth that the clothing of the late 80s and early 90s have cycled back into Fashion, so old music videos are looking quite fresh as resources. I thought I'd sketch out a few looks in a more current vein and see how they translated. I was determined to make it a dynamic pose, but I think the clothing is working against the pose and vice versa. Will have to figure this one out.

Zenaida, Roughly

I just wanted to sketch something roughly and without thinking, and what better to do than my exuberant Venus of the Rice?

The Long Arm 6

I needed to see that knee. And to tousle his hair a bit.And define his obliques... and a host of other details that may change with each iteration. But I like having something to back into and rework a little bit at a time. I used to do tha to doodles I had next tot eh telephone back home in Manila. I would doodle something, and later on, another call, another day, I would doodles something else on it, or add to it, or develop it. I should have kept those phone calendars.

The Long Arm 5

I wanted 70s style hair that's so in fashion right now. It reminds me of model Ton Heukel's hair.

Peggy

Man, I must really be distracted, I keep missing my post dates!

Anyhow, I pulled out a pad and started sketching while watching Agent Carter, so I drew a comic-book style version of Peggy. It was nice and completely mindless to just doodle on a pad while watching tv!

The Long Arm 4

Perhaps I should call this The Long Hair....it's interesting to fine tune a drawing but show the entire piece, as it shows where I decided to concentrate my efforts, even if they're in minor portions of the entire sketch.

Fishing For Fashion 25

Crap. late again, almost two nights in a row? Jeez. What's funny is I spent a lot of time drawing today, just didn't update. Not that it matters, as I don't have too many follower. Nor does anyone care if it's late, haha!

Anyhow, it might not seem like much, but I think I got a likeness on this model. However, I do not like the clothing that goes with it, because it is all just black, and the balance of the portrait just goes off as a result. Ugh, bad planning on my part. Trying to make it work.

Pose Proposal

I met a potential model yesterday and wanted to see if he'd be up for dynamic poses. I sketched out some of them here.

The Long Arm 3

Just refining features and anatomy. When it starts to look better, that's when I like to work on it more. And I thought about long hair to go with his long arm...

The Long Arm

One of my inadequacies as an illustrator (among many other things) is not knowing how to draw forearms confidently and properly. I never learned anatomy beyond copying references so I never understood the musculature the way I should. So when I saw another artist draw an arm, it actually clicked in my head more than seeing it from reality, because I could 'read' the artist's shapes.

Another Layer

Doing a series on my friends' Second/Layer line and wondering how to lay it all out. Just doodling tonight based on my takeway from their last presentation, which was all about the flow of big silhouettes, particularly in their pants.

Fishing For Fashion 24

This portrait will be the death of me.

Anarchy Mode 2

I'm having difficulty. Aside from not knowing the model's face very well, it's a difficult angle and also, it's obscured by SFX makeup, so I'm trying to draw the base face underneath the rather distorting paint I will apply later. Still, I like the idea of the drawing, if I can get to the final product as I plan...

Anarchy Mode

The Siki show had lots of very punk stylings, which is what was most striking about the show. Working on a few images form it. images to come

Big Hat Moment

My friend Robby loves a big hat, and his latest collection had a few nice ones. Methinks my main drawing for this collection will be this hat moment...

Big Turtleneck

I was tempted to call this Cock Neck, because I feel like it's then huge, loose foreskin of an uncut cock. This is a trend on the FW 16 runways, both here and in Europe, and I've certainly been wearing all of my looser turtlenecks lately (I have a few from the 1990s - clearly they came back).

Return to the Runway, FW'16, 2

Saw my friend Robbie's show today, so looking forward to sketching a few of the looks, but not necessarily in the old way I was doing it with portraits of the models... so of course I start with a portrait. Well, it's just the face, completely made up.

Return to the Runway, FW'16

I'm starting my FW'16 Fashion Week a bit late as I eschewed going to the Men's Day shows at Industria today, but will begin tomorrow. I did a croquis based on a shot from one of the Milan shows, in anticipation. Clothes to come later (even if I did give him a rough outfit. But he's rough all over anyhow.
