Sneer 2

I think I'm going to try and paint this more like my old, semi-realistic but painterly style. And now I lay the groundwork...

Military Jacketdress

I had an idea of one that fit with an almost trapeze shape. It could be a fun, trendy item.

Sneer

This one is something I plan on doing fairly differently for me. We'll see how I finish it.

I posted this an hour or so too late but it is for yesterday/s date, March 29.

Frommage

I'm keenly aware that a certain type of fashion illustration is very popular, even if I feel like it looks very plebeian. This is a rough brush attempt at one.

Greens

I've been designing with some flourescent greens and it worked with my origna concept but as soon as the client chose a diversion, I lost my way. So I'm trying to see if the original colors I chose worked to begin with. This flouro and hunter combo isn't exactly a natural choice...

Sirena 2

After yesterday's bout of food poisoning, all I wanted to do was... well, nothing, really. But I had to draw, so I went back into what was supposed ot be a quickie and noodled around with it ad infinitum.

Sick

Too dizzy, can't draw. :(

edit: this drawing was done the next day. I'm better, but still woozy and nauseated.

Sirena

My friend Robbie said I drew a lot of naked men, and I do. But I used to draw only naked women, once upon a time. So tonight I wanted to challenge myself to draw a female figure like I used to - with elements of bondage and sex. Don't ask me why. I'm sure there's some gay-oriented reasoning for it.

Brushy Again

This time they're Kyle's new Birch Brushes. All thick and rough-like.

Brushy

Brush designer extraordinaire Kyle Webster updated his Megapack, so I went exploring new brushes. Actually, I think the ones I'm using are all old, but ones I've not touched before. Always nice to try new things, even if they're only new to you. I drew a hipster.  A posey one.

Dirty Strokes

I found an image I really liked because the contraposto was so nice, so I though I'd use it as a reference. But then resolution of the file was so low, and it was already dark and dirty looking to begin with, I went very rough on it as well.

Ruin

I've been asked to work on a commission that intrigues me. I'm not completely sure how I will approach the work but for now, it's quite interesting for me.

Stylized Lines

I always like it when comic book artists take creative liberties with how to render people/faces/bodies. My experiment here was the nose - I've never defined a nose that way before.

Red

I had visions of Phoenix and David Haller (Legion, of the X-men) as originally rendered by Bill Sienkeiwicz.

James at '16, 3

Gonna try and get momentum on this sketch! And he's not being so difficult so far. I'm able to see progress with each iteration.

James at '16, 2

James was one of the models I shot and planned to draw when I was backstage at the SS16 menswear shows. He's gonna be a tough one, I can feel it. He's pretty in a way that's more general, and not because of one specific feature. I had to redraw nearly the entire original sketch, and this one does NOT look like the picture reference, and yet it's logically the right set of corrections for now...

Gray Expectations

I just put brush to canvas and let whatever lay down set the tone. Okay I did erase and make a few corrections... and it started out with the gray paint but I did add some color.

Feeling Wet

I have a few drawing projects coming up and wanted to explore poses, and wanted to test out (digital) wet on wet techniques too. Not loving this but it's a start.

Blue Crayon

The crayon brush made me use looser shadows which led to this face doodle. I think he looks like some 60s tv character.

Freefall

My model friend Torbjorn posted a pic of him jumping, and his shadow looked like what a superhero (well, if he was wearing civilian clothing) would look like coming in for a landing after flying. So I thought I'd do a drawing of it.

Heroic

I've been asked to conceptualize a tableau that's best described as classically heroic, but with modern touches (so, not so classically heroic).Yeah, where to start? With nudity.

Everyday Capes

I saw an commercial on tv for Meredith Viera's talk show, and she was wearing a white cape dress, which seemed a bit much for her show. Later that day I saw a woman in a similar dress, this time in all black, going out for the evening, and it looked perfect: the short length, the strappy booties, and her tight pulled hair. Capes have made it to the racks now, finally trickled down from the time that Gwyneth wore an amazing Tom Ford cape on the red carpet in 2012.

Rogue-y

I wanted to touch up the rough sketch face from a couple of days ago and it ended up looking like dressed up version of the X-man Storm. Not that its a perfect drawing... just a doodle, but hey, it's the sketch for today.

Nupastel Brush

Bored tonight, and just doodling, and not necessarily liking my doodles. Which, you know, is sometimes the case (often, really).

Sexy Unsexy

I was inspired by how modern and resolutely design-driven Demna Gvasalia's premiere Balanciaga collection was. It was a supremely conceptual affair with not-always sexy results, but I loved it. I thought I would try and repurpose modern concepts (in this case, the lights and training shorts combos that have become de rigeuet at my gym) and see how I could make that look modern and sexy as a super hero costume. My ideas aren't always conventional, and the public at large will usually hate it, but I have fun with it. There's definitely an element of Rick Owens here with the hips-centric weight of the design...

Tv Doodle

I was watching "The Good Wife" and decided I would doodle while doing so. I forget how natural it is to draw with natural media. The drawing forms effortlessly, and you don't make decisions based on what might work better, you just draw and it takes its own course. I miss that.

Fishing For Fashion 29, Done

I like the illustration but I'm not sure it's a good portrait. Then again, I feel like none of my head-on portraits look right, especially in my watercolor style. But, I can only try (and try, and try, and try).

I finally posted it on Instagram and tagged the original model, and he liked it so that's good. And it's finally published so it's done. Whew!

Retro Via City Gritty

City Gritty is one of Kyle Webster's new brushes for Photoshop, and it had me thinking of illustator Don Bachardy and David Downton's retro-leaning inks, so doodling these faces resulted in a very 60s chiaroscuro. Fun how tools influence your style. That blue face is very Downton, I think. He does that nose shadow that way, and I seem to have subconsciously absorbed it into my work.

Dries Is The Word

Dries Van Noten's gorgeous FW16 collection was awash in textures and beautiful, intense yet subtle color. I wanted to do a quick render just for this outfit, but this is not what I planned at all, Still, happy accidents.

Fishing For Fashion 28

It's highly possible this kid is done, but I'll wait until I have fresh eyes tomorrow to make that statement. I've tinked with his face (which is just okay) and I like the splotchy abstract inkiness of the clothing, but I'll wait and see how I feel tomorrow before declaring it done.

Fishing For Fashion 27

I'm hoping this new direction finalizes this long-gestating sketch!

I finally got to do what I had in my mind to do for the chest graphic. While it's embroidered black on black on the designer's sweatshirt, I wanted it to look like it was a blob of ink dispersing in water, kind of to evoke the work abyssopelagic, which, hell, I dunno what it means but it sounds like deep water. I think once I make final touches to his face, this is done!
