Tableau 2

I'm basically establishing croquis that could work well together in a tableau. The work continues...

Settled In

I seem to have settled into a watercolor style without my even knowing it!  This mottled kind of daubing shows up more and more in my drawings when I just rush through something, and I suppose it's my style?

Late Night / Early Morning

I didn't post a drawing yesterday/last night because I was up at the office from 2:15 until 3:30 am this morning. This is a sketch of what I imagine I looked like from behind, waiting for the 3 train to come in as I trudged home.

Astral 5

Working on it makes me want to finish it up, so I laid the groundwork for more of the details that I saw it finished with (although I changed her dress somewhat. I appear to have given her indigo jeans now...). I turned on some older layer and there she was, Sonia Rykiel.

RIP Sonia Rykiel (Astral 4)

My Astral drawing was based on the wigs of the Sayoko collection of Rootstein, but the most iconic model for this kind of hairdo was Sonia Rykiel, who kept it as her signature for the rest of her life. She passed away today and I decided to try and rework this sketch a bit more. Image to come.

Sleeves Pose

Planning out more poses form the series I think I am planning on doing.

Who Nose

Being of Asian descent, some of the nasal configurations I've encountered with caucasian faces have been way out of my scope of knowledge. I recently did the profile of a new friend whose nose goes way higher than I'd have expected from seeing his face from the front. And a very popular male model right now has a similar facial construction, with a higher nose and somewhat receding mouth and chin area... so I tried to render it.

2B Steamy

I'm intrigued by Photoshop's new 2B pencil tool, trying to see if it's worth incorporating into my regular toolbox. I think the fine motor control is a bit lacking, but it's fun to play wiht. This 'guy at the steam room' drawing is more contour and sketchy than proper anatomy, but it's still fun.

Manspreading 4

He's giving us the Side Eye. Although I was thinking it should be a Below Eye (as if there were such a term).

In other news, Photoshop CC's new 2B pencil Brush Tool Preset is kinda good!

Wanda

The Scarlet Witch was never a huge fave of mine in the comics, but with the dearth of female heroes in The Avengers back in my heyday, it was basically her or The Wasp. I did like how she got fleshed out in the movies, although they (understandably) kind of just relegated her to being a telekinetic. This costume and the drawing are pretty old school.

Hot Heeb

here's a very fit, tattooed guy at my gym whom I have have the hots for, but I don't even know if he's gay or straight, but I do believe he is Jewish. He has the sickest lean body, and he walks around looking like a fashion illustration, with his curved back and slender waist that rumbles with abdominal bumps just underneath his shirt...

Sketchy Fashion

I was texting with a friend and he sent me a pic of a Comme des Garçons jacket that was little more than sleeves and a back. I thought it looked like something someone would wear as a rudely sexy outfit. Then  I did a quick sketch to show him.

Quick Doodle

I don't know what possessed me to doodle this, but after I did I didn't want to draw on it any further... must be the fact that I'm in my cups having been drinking all evening at a (now-former) co-worker's despidida party.

Manspreading 3

Gonna work some more on this face. I need to get that half-mast, looking-down-at-you look so popular in fashion photography right now. Without making him look Asian... unless I'm drawing an Asian man.

A Second' Season 6

Typical me, I'm spending way too much time on getting a satisfactory likeness, for a model whom I don't even know. But I guess I just want to be accurate (very Virgo of me).

Impression

It's interesting to me to meet someone and then distill their features into a stylized version of them that's not meant to create a likeness so much as evoke their feature set. Paul from the other day reminds me of someone else I know (an old friend of a friend, Steven), but a younger, lithe version of him.

Pretty Shindig

I got to spend some time with my coworker up in Hudson and we did a little portrait sketch for her anniversary.

I thought this published last night but apparently it didn't! Arrrgh.

Upstate Delay

I'm upstate without my tools and more than a little drunk. So the full post will have to wait.

Edit: so my 'make up' drawing is a sketch I did of my new friend Paul, who is the hubby of 'tomorrow's' sketch subject, Tiffany.

Trying to get the perfect face and haughty facial expression.

Manspreading

In my quest for provocative poses, I bring you the spread-leg, shot-from-below angle of a potential illustration.

Meeting Doodles 2

During one of our "hot list" meetings (where the project managers go over all the projects in the queue) I drew one of my coworkers who had a nice — but decidedly bored — pose.

Meeting Doodles

I'd been sketching co-workers again, this time at a big photo planning meeting. I'll scan it when I go back to the office.

Edit: not the most detailed, but everyone was so bored and looking at their phones.

Photoshop's New Tools

I'm finally on Photoshop CC at home and was wondering if they upgraded their presets, since everyone i know is using third party versions. SO far, the pencil brushes are fairly good, better than some of the ones I've been using for years (of course, since they've been around for years, they're not as refined). Will keep playing.

Lil From "Ergo Proxy" 2

While looking for a drawing to post for #FlashbackFriday, I came upon this old drawing from — oh my, I just realized — EXACTLY 9 years ago, on Aug.6,2007! I corrected some of the features and made her look a bit more ethnic because 9 years ago, my skills at drawing faces were different from what they are now. Who knew that would be a thing?

Her real name was apparently Re-al Mayer, but because it was a Japanese translation (and therefore the translator's own English shortcomings), the phonetic translation became "Lil."

Achieving Awkward, 3

For some reason I felt he needed an Yves Klein Blue settee.

Lost Time 2

This is another make up drawing, since I was out last Thursday and got too into my cocktails and dinner with my errant friend (who globe-trots the world and is barely ever in town) Bob to properly draw and post a new sketch.

A Second' Season, 5

Ongoing refinements for teh potrait part of this fashion sketch...

A Second' Season, 4

I suppose it's my style when I don't think about what I'm doing so much as just doing it. I always used to think, "how would Antonio do this?" but nowadays it's just autonomous.

Achieving Awkward, 2

I retooled his face. I needed it to be more conventionally handsome. He was looking too odd.
