Rainer 11
I'm finding that this drawing just wasn't working - I'm not sure I want it to just be another naturally-painted portrait. I kept thinking about seeing how other artists are using color in ways that I used to, and I thought of injecting some into this, and it automatically felt more right for me, like it was something familiar again. I'll have to work it some more- I'm still not quite certain. I used to just put colors in willynilly and it felt right, so hopefully it will get there.

Calvin Croquis
I was thumbing through the latest issue of GQ absentmindedly while watching tv, and a pose in one of the new Calvin Klein ads struck me as a very basic croquis pose, but with the slight adjustment of being viewed somewhat from below. I thought I'd just render it to see if there was anything I could learn from the pose. Mostly I think how to render a jawline form that angle, which I've always had a hard time doing...

Rainer 10
Yeesh, I can't believe it's been almost a year since I opened this file. Working on it some more... and it's funny how much I find wrong with it when I'm not so attached to any recent work on it I've done. I find that's the best thing about coming back to a piece later - even if it's a day, or months, later.: you really do come back with fresher eyes.

Story Lines
Back when I wanted to draw comics, pretty much all my doodles had some sort of narrative behind them, whether or not I knew it or showed it. With my recent focus on fashion illustration, I've lost a bit of that infused narrative (in favor of stylized poses). although I did have it for the backstage reportage I did. But when faced with not knowing what to sketch for today, I thought I'd just start sketching and see what turned up, and the face begat an expression, which begat a stance, which begat thigh gap, which begat a sense of movement via a weird top knot ponytail, which...ends there. But you can read all you want into what might be happening to her.

Bobby and his friend Heron
Bobby and his friend Heron have both dreamed of seeing the inside of a Lockheed SR-71B's cockpit, but only one of them is actually attempting to break in illegally.

Vitalii
Went to the Erotic Drawing Salon again for a Russian model whose name I think is Vitalii. He had a great face to draw, which I could have spent more time drawing it. Working as extensively as I do on the computer, 20 minutes now just feels too short.

Layered 2
Yesterday's exercise wasn't very successful, so I'm trying again. But maybe I need to dig into my stores for references for good poses (I tend to stock up on them for future use).

Layered
Been thinking up a new commission, and the idea is strong, but it's not an original one. I need to spin it so its mine. I was hoping to find interesting yet awkward positions, but I seem to be leaving out the 'interesting' part.

Mel, Mark and their friend Heron
Mel, Mark and their friend Heron know that they can't be in each and every vacation photo... although not for a lack of trying.

And now what...?
I tend to be at a loss for what to do next, creatively, after investing in any one project for any length of time. So I never know what to do next, even if I have tons of projects all in various states of unfinished-ness. So this is one I just started recently in hopes in doodling into completion.

Websketches 12
I was told to draw 'trendy' runway outfits with glasses. But without any shading, it's basically coloring books, so these could really be anything tacky as well. Hopefully they look designer trendy!

You wear nothing, Jon C!
I was at the Erotic Drawing Salon again tonight but it was really more like a regular nude session with a nude dancer in semi dance poses. I really liked the models face but I had a really hard time sketching it properly, I wondered if I ever really got a good likeness before, or if my working digitally and really getting exacting likenesses nowadays has spoiled my for quicker work?

Websketches 11 (Hipper)
I thought to myself, I'm always drawing generalized people, whose looks and outfits are more akin to stock photo models, so as to provide maximum versatility. But I often find that my favorite sketches are those that feel contemporary, so I thought I'd retool one or more of the characters I drew and make them hipper, more modern, and more fun. So now the guys got a beard, dropped crotch pants and a very Atelier look about him.
Now what outfit to give that girl if she's hanging with him? She looks a bit too uptown, although I like the idea that the guy is hipper than she is.

Fat Chihuahua
For some reason I thought of drawing the fattest, ugliest, most reprehensible looking chihuahua I could imagine. I think his name is Brad, short for Bratwurst, The Fat Chihuahua.

Websketches 10
I hate drawing architecture. I have no patience for straight lines and will avoid them as much as I can. although in this case, it was unavoidable. Well not too much, considering how I basically didn't connect any lines, haha.

Websketches 9
I've been asked for some minor tweaks, so I'm throwing a bit of shade... well, as in adding in sunglasses. But I can't think of anyone jogging with sunglasses on, do some people do that?

Websketches 7
I did almost all tonight save for two that had a lot of details, but here's one of my faves.
Meanwhile, this one I think is the one I'm proudest of - no references! I've always had a thing for drawing hands.

Fancy
I was inspired by the goldfish I drew in yesterday's sketch. I thought of maybe mimicking the brushstrokes of traditional Japanese and/or Chinese artists who depict goldfish. I think it's a cross between a lionhead and a shubunkin (if I recall my goldfish varieties correctly) but I didn't have a reference so I'm not sure.

Can Barely Bear It
Been working like a dog, designing for the past 3 days, on very little sleep. So I'd say my energies are pretty spent, let alone my creative energies. So this is what you get (can't you tell the level of "No, not today" from my work these past three days? lol).

Auugh
I've been designing for two days straight on a 30+ page website that I foolishly agreed to try and do in 3 days. So I wanna run outside and do stuff, but I'm locked in front of my desk until tomorrow, trying to get things done, and keeping up with a sugar-rush diet of chocolate covered granola bars....

Brown Is Beautiful
What people seem to respond to when they see Zenaida is that she's just too damn happy, which is just as well. She's so damn proud to be who she is she has no problems being naked to the world (except for ag-string, or tanga, as we use to call it back home; and a pair of heels - she does like a little lift).

Shore Lines
This sketch is partly from a reference photo, partly just me drawing it in the way I'd like. I think having a reference helps you avoid your own standard lines, and in my case helps it look more natural. I love a natural pose, but when I draw it on my own without a reference it can look a bit stiff. Her face is all mine, though- The original reference had her looking in a completely different direction. I like how it looks like she and her man are having a conversation by the shore.

Websketches 5
Gotta get all these thumbnails done! They're all fairly rough but when they're cleaned up they won't be much more filled in, as the client has selected a pencil outline style.
