Are We Hare Yet?

I think I'm ready to finally release this and call it done. But today's edits were so minimal, although considering the last time I worked on this file was over a year ago, it's amazing what you see needs doing. In this case, I completely deleted a pair of hands and a gesture I was particularly happy with, in favor of a stronger composition.

Alicia at Acne 3

Making progress. I can't get over how adorable she is.

Alicia at Acne 2

I told myself I wouldn't get too hung up on maintaining a likeness, but I can't help myself - she was just too cute. So I'm working on the likeness. Also, how to do her skin tone justice...

Alicia at Acne

My SA who helped me at Acne Studios' Soho store was super cute and helpful, so I took some pics of her to sketch her and her outfit. Here's the initial rough.

Trever 2

Gotta get this series started. Even rough sketches help me get started, because then I have something to edit, as opposed to starting from scratch...

On Your Toes 2

I thought to myself, I will draw these toes realistically. But aside from foot fetishists, I'd imagine, I'm not sure anyone needs to see these realistically rendered in a fashion illustration. So I ended up drawing and erasing and drawing and erasing. So it doesn't look like much compared to the first pass at it, but there you go.

On Your Toes

I liked the detail on these pants hems but I realized as I was sketching this that I never really drew toes in any real detail. Well, at leasy, not that I recall. Well, guess I'll be painting in some detail next!

Pure Lines

One of Kyle Webster's brushes that I'm trying out is a smooth ink that just may be the smoothest brus I've ever used in Photoshop. It has a nice real media feel to it when it starts and resolves, and sketches take on a really natural quality both in the process and the final result. So much so that I prefer the work as is once it's sketched, as in above. I dislike the addition of color because it takes away from the pure line.

Red Hottie

This was a rough sketch of a pose I broached to a model of mine for a drawing idea, although in my original idea there were no trunks. But I hadda clean it up for the blog! But I always find this angle rather sexy (I wonder why? Hehe.)

Live Practice Session

Still upstate in Hudson and not really wanting to draw up here so I'm posting another practice sketch from my session on Friday before the job. I'll add some new ones on Monday.

edit: whoops, I thought I published this Sunday night but it looks like it didn't actually publish from the Blogger app! Oh well, it wasn't late, but now it's late. Arrgh.

Jen

I'm upstate and don't really have time to sketch so I'm going to upload one from yesterday and just add newer ones when I return to the city.

When I did the live sketching I finished a total of 7 sketches. But earlier in the day I did 4 more in a practice session. I visited my old employer, Kate's Paoerie and did 10 minute sketches of my former coworkers. Jen is one of them.

Live Sketching at a jewelry function

Well that was fun. Did an in-store appearance live sketching the attendees at a private function, doing quick 10 minute portraits of the ladies trying on the emerald jewelry collection being promoted.

Being the Virgo that I am I wasn't satisfied with the finished work but happy the subjects seemed to love their portraits. This was the last one and the only good pic I got of the work but I guess I'm glad I was busy!

Inky Bloom

Ack, I'm an idiot. I drew this earlier and finished it earlier as an entry for yesterday, then I just didn't enter it in time. Feh! Anyhow, a client wanted a rose watercolor, and I have not painted a rose in I don't know how long. Drawn, yes, but a realistic-ISH watercolor rose? Never, I think. And I think it shows. :(

Retro Good

I found this double breasted bomber style in an old menswear ad on my Male Model Retro Facebook feed and I want it! And when I can't have things I want because I'm not sure if they exist, I'll just draw them.

Acne Pants

I made the mistake of trying on and falling in love with some new pants over at Acne Studios. I'm hoping drawing them and sleeping on them will make me want them less...

Skinny With Acne

I saw a great pose on the Acne site and while it was simple and not too 'posed,' it had a lot of gesture between the skinny jeans and the flow of the oversized sweater, and the turn of the model's head. So I did a quick sketch of it.

Twisted Idea

Sometimes when I get an idea for a pose, my drawing gets in the way of what I've imagined. I didn't want to draw a twinky looking boy, and neither did I want this very dance-like pose. But as I laid down lines, a funny thing happened: I started looking at the lines and working with what I had, as opposed to what I originally imagined. And that's a problem sometimes, because this is not what I imagined at all. But sometimes I think, well, maybe this will be cool to draw, so let's use it. Frankly, I wanted something more edgy and awkward... also, I couldn't quite figure out a desirable hand pose. Ugh.

Happy BIrthday, You Bitch

It's my birthday soon, and I recall a friend who has the same birthday as me greeting me with this post's headline. So I decided to draw one of his favorite makeups (he was always a New Romantic in full makeup) from 1986 Christian Dior ads. This is Les Coloniales.

Stalk

My friend Antonio incorporated more women's outfits in his recent SS15 show, and I decided to focus on them this time, as a start to some of the women's stuff I hope to do. But I find I have a muscle memory that's stronger for women's fashion bodies, and I didn't really follow the model in my photo as much as I do for the menswear. And I really liked her contraposto in stride, stalking the runway as it were, whereas mine is more of my standard. I'm not sure where it just didn't follow in the attitude, but it can be adjusted, it's just an initial sketch.

View From Below

I was standing next to a male model who is 6'3", and I kept looking up to Laurie and thinking, I'm so very short. The angle at which I saw his profile from where I stood is pretty much my favorite angle anyhow, so I went home and did a very quick sketch of my view of his profile.

Old Digital Pencil

I suppose that's the only way to call it since the graphite brushes to me are slightly harder. This is how I used to draw in pencil mode, like it was a thick, oily 3B pencil... It's got a weight to it that my newer, finer digital graphite renderings don't have. But inserting it into my more graphic silhouette style makes it seem a bit more retro good, so I like it. This was done in Painter, so I have to find an equivalent brush in Photoshop.

Zero Maria Cornejo Jumpsuit

I saw it today on Style.com and just loved its simplicity, yet the details were fresh and new. I've always liked Maria Cornejo's rather cerebral work, as it as a complex simplicity, if that makes sense. The drawing though, done in just a few minutes, is kinda crap.

Time Suck

ARGH, late again!! This day has been annoying because of the rush put on me by a friend, which has led to a snowball effect throughout today. It's become a time suck. I'm pissed off.

BodyCon

Which is short for 'Body Conscious.' Which is what I'm aware of as I try to fit in this vintage Calvin Klein top from my memory of it in the 80s, but I can't seem to draw a pose I really like that works with the drape of its wide arm opening.

Super

I wasn't completely pleased with the Peekaboob Male Edition pose, so I tried something more dynamic but it kinda looks like a super hero pose. This drawing is meant to be for September 6th.

Peekaboo, Male Edition

Man, I kept forgetting to post!  Fashion Week has done little for my promptness. I'm so late.

ANYhow, this is supposed to be a partner drawing to the all white woman I drew in her broken doll pose. I've been wanting to draw this old Calvin Klein top that I loved back when I was a kid (and way too chunky to wear it). This drawing is meant to be for September 5th.

Big Stride

This is a quickie of one of the women from Antonio Azzuolo's show yesterday. She had a long stride!

Alexander

Met and photographed one of my fave male models right now, and excited to draw him in something. This is a quickie, just to do one, but not necessarily to be a precise likeness. Well, not at least a labored one.

Big Patterns

I'm doing a coats layout too, but am busy shopping for the appropriate items to feature...but I have an idea for the general layout.

Big Pants

Starting what is hopefully a new series today (yes, yes, I know, I haven't even finished a ton of the old ones).  I had this image in my head of fashion compositions on various trends. This would be about wide leg trousers.
