Blue All Over 2

I did some minor but, to my mind, pivotal tweaks to the drawing to make it better... and Instagram-ready. It's not the most forward looking content, but I do like the high-contrast, graphic quality of the piece.

Instanudity 13

I've giving him reconstructive surgery and totally recreated his face, not to mention gave him a new hand. Although the hand isn't looking that great at the moment.

Baller

If I recall correctly, the term "baller" came from professional athletes earning so much money and looking as rich as they were. I recall the term being applied back around 2007-2008, for when guys on message boards would sport (pun intended) the latest clothes by Rick Owens and other similarly expensive 'goth ninja'lavant garde designers, clothing so new they could only have been bought at retail. So it comes full circle in a way that when I was working out at the gym today, I g;anced at a basketball game playing on one of the gym's tv screens, and I thought that the uniforms of one team looked rather fashionable. With some players wearing black tights underneath their long shorts, it looked kinda like something Rick might have done a few seasons back. So I thought I'd do a sketch.

Raf's Dior

I was late in posting this because I was busy buying advanced tickets to the new fashion doco, "Dior and I." I'm a big fan of Raf Simons. I've had a love/hate relationship with his menswear but I've generally loved his point of view, especially womenswear. One of his first dresses for Dior was a very deceptively clean-looking dress, except for the print/fabric on it. I remember it from his first Dior outing which I loved. I didn't know it was based on a very similar original design by Dior himself.

Blue Inside Out

Playing with the Mr.Natural brush and sticking to a heavy line and doing a very 80s line shot style graphic.

Blue All Over

I love these happy accidents. It's a bit old school fashion, but I might have to do an updated outfit that's more current with this color story and technique.

Holding Pattern

I'm up in Hudson and tipsy from one too many glasses of Malbec, so sketch updates will have to wait.

edit: So I ended up doing a quick sketch of a weird Filipina in a terno.

Instanudity 12

I did a lot of work on his face, and I mean a LOT, but it just wouldn't look like there's much change since it's a lot of incremental stuff that won't really register. So why don't I give you his hand instead? Granted, his hand is over his crotch, so that's exciting.

Making Faces

I used to be so proud of how I could draw women's faces, but nowadays, standards of beauty are so different that I feel my faces look dated. So every so often I think of doing a face that looks very now... and when it doesn't happen, then I practice. This is practice.

Animask

Someone posted on Facebook that their updated site was up, and I thought I saw schoolgirls wearing bunny masks so I wanted to do one that was sorta Anubis/jackal like but I went for large asymmetrical ears. Edit: I just realized it's an aardvark.

Gray Manner

Playing some more with the weird brush... plus drawing something inspired by an image I saw briefly in a Mika music video. I really love curls on men, and if I could find a model with this kind of hair, I'd love to do more detailed strands and curls...

Weird Brush

That's what Kyle Webster called it when he offered it on his Facebook page. It does have some interesting effects, like the fact that it skips coverage when applied with light pressure. As a result I went a bit softer and more playfully, and this sketch reminds me of the feeling I recall from Bloomingdale's shopping bags that my mom used to bring back from her trips to New York in the 80s...

Instanudity 11

I'm not sure if I'm having a harder time with this likeness, or if I'm just really doing what I normally do (correct, correct, revise, correct) and that I forget how difficult it can be for me to get a good likeness from a photo. Don't get me wrong: if I draw from life, I can make a good likeness, but that;s because you don't have a still to compare it to, feature for feature. Here, you move one thing, then the next is suddenly wrong, even if that was the one thing you really thought you nabbed. Ugh, it's a process...

Feeling Pink (and Blue)

An old piece that wasn't perfect, but I did like the look and effect. Might have to completely redo it and see if it can be a poster or something. Retooled it a bit and it's looking like it has potential...

Instanudity 10

Might as well keep going while I've got momentum! It's at the point where I find stuff I'm really happy about (like the way his body looks with his hand covering his crotch - that just flows really nicely), then a day later, I find stuff I'm REALLY unhappy about (like the way I'm rendering his face. Again.). Ugh, process.

Instanudity 9

This model's body's just driving me mad - he's got all the right leanness and bulges in all the right places. Argh. Gotta make sure I do it justice.

Cloudy Storm

Playing with Painter Essentials' pastels brush, and amazed how much fun it can be to work and define such vague tools into something coherent.

Rollback Gown

Sometimes I like to design clothing, like I did in my teens and 20s. I would design superhero costumes mostly, but all women's clothing were costumes to me because I couldn't wear them, but I loved to play around with how forms accentuate a woman's body. And I was always drawn to a slightly revealing drape in an unexpected way and place.

McGibson Girl

I'm sketching on paper because I really didn't want to make a file of this idea. I was looking st the latest Alexander McQueen collection and loved how the styling made the models look like modern Gibson Girls. Thought I could sketch that but enh, not really. My design focus (I'm trying to learn how to 'code' my website into a responsive framework in Freeway) is stealing much of my creative energy.

Fishing For Fashion 2

I'm suddenly having doubts about the photo I'm working from - maybe it's not the best one for a sketch that's in my semi realistic style. I find myself looking to stylize it a lot...

Stick yer neck out

I liked this model's pose in this pic I discovered in an online editorial. There's so much relaxed gesture to it all, so I tried to sketch out the form/pose...

Instanudity 8

When last we left off, this drawing/post series got interrupted by the Slapstagrams (which I'm happy to report are completed as a project). The problem is, I'm not good enough to see what's wrong wiht my work until I walk away from it for a while, and come back to it with fresh eyes. I dunno why that works for me but it does. I think this looks much more like the photo I took, but we'll see how I feel about it later, haha!

Lately

I'm posting this late-ly (get it?) as my entry for yesterday because yesterday I was busy making penis prints using actual penises (don't ask). I wonder if that counts as actual drawing? I mean, if I was using a penis as a brush, it's kind of a drawn stroke (pun unintentionally), right?

Oh, well, in case it doesn't count, here's a quickie of my friend Brian, who asked about sitting for a portrait and posted a pic that kinda served as proff he would be a good suject (and he would). This looks nothing like him, btw.

Just experimenting with brushes, techniques and colors.

New for Old (Haider Hair 2 Too)

Found an older drawing that I liked, based on hairstyles for the Haider Ackerman menswear show that showed in the begining of 2014. But I retooled it juuuust a bit to make it Instagram ready. Because I'm picky that way.
