Green With Exhaustion

I don't know why I'm so tired - I had a restful, albeit busy day. But designing takes so much out of me, maybe, and I haven't the energy to draw. I only have one well of creative energy, it seems, and when it's used up for one thing, it leaves none for the other... my excuse for this horrible sketch.

Spring Layer 5

I seem to be at a loss having not practiced my watercolor rendering. I need to redo this a couple of times to get my confidence back.

Hed Trip

Went to NJ to see a store that stocks Hed Mayner, a new designer whose work reminds me of old Christophe Lemaire from 2009. I wasn't as into his fabric choices but his silhouettes are fun in that way that Lemaire was when he first came out, because everything was roomier and loser than everyone else.

Hipster Hair

I'm binge watching The Good Wife back episodes (I started maybe the 34th season) and one of the ads on Hulu showed some sort of hipster store owner, replete with beard and trendy hair. So I sketched what I recalled.

Big Pants

I was thinking about a pair of trousers I owned back in the 80s. I wish I still had them because they'd be so perfect to wear today.

I used to sketch a lot during meetings, sometimes the people in the meetings. This is form my meeting today at the Ann offices, of my co worker Lauren. The subject matter of the meeting wasn't making anyone happy.

I'm Tired

I've been working long hours at my freelance gig, and while I'm not as fatigued as I was when I first started, I'm pretty wiped. I came home late and ate dinner past 10 pm, and I didn't get to the gym, I need to fix that.

I saw a pic with a model whose stance and attitude I wanted to capture, but in doing so the sketch turned into an exercise in fashion illustration abstraction. Well, stylize-ation, as I exaggerated everything to flo-o-ow.

For whatever reason, doodling with the Brutus brush yielded a bit of new technique today, or at least new perspectives. This sketch reminded me of the illustrations for the Modesty Blaise comic strip.

I was falling asleep while sketching (again!) and opened my eyes to see I had drawn a woman in a leotard. Image to come.

Watery Storm

I pulled up an old sketch I did years ago of Storm in a modified, fashion-y (well, back then) version of her classic costume. The inks were definitely not fashion illustration style, but I thought maybe adding some watercolor to flesh it out would make it appear more like a fashion illo. I don't think it does, but it looks like a hand done piece.

I love happy accidents. I chose a relatively loose brush but tried for a tighter sketch, and the face and neck turned out great, I think.

Another Lavender Wash

I thought I was doing a black man, then he kinda looked a bit Asian, but I'm not quite sure what his race is. Maybe he's just lavender, hehe.

Meeting Doodles

It's been a while since I doodled during a work meeting. These were done at Ann during a UI meeting, at our offices which seem to be filled with allergens that are making me miserable enough that I forgot to post this in time.

The color magic brush plus soft pastels equals a naive style that is possibly hipster-y.

The Ab-olution

Once upon a time, overly pronounced obliques didn't look good to me - it looked like people had bellies. But we've evolved in our aesthetics, and large pelvic – well, what are they? pelvic girdles? – muscles look especially desirable. I love how Benjamin Godfre's protrude in this pic, so I sketched it.

Spring Layer 4

It's been Spring in New York (although it often felt more like Fall Winter) so I need to hustle on these Spring images... except I spend so much time designing I go home each day with nary a drop of creative energy left! Argh. Make it work...! image to come.

Still not much for a lot of detail lately, but I kinda like this doodle - the form came together nicely enough, and the Go Gritty ink tool I used has a nice effect. Plus, surprise nudity!

Sleep-sketching

I could barely keep my eyes open tonight, I was falling asleep at my computer again. So tonight's sketch will have to end at this rough filler piece of delineating colors and trying to stay awake MAn, I'm more tired than I thought. Even falling asleep as I type this....

Pink Gown

I had the MetBall gala on my mind but didn't want to draw much tonight. Still recovering from the creative stint of the weekend, when I presented to two of my freelance clients.

7 MInute Zenaida

I've been working all weekend on a freelance job (two, actually) and I had very little time and energy to draw. Always the case, one or the other with me. The good news is I'm making good progress on my freelance gigs. So all you're getting is a quickie - 7 minutes to be exact - rendition of Zenaida, my Venus of the Rice.
