Nick at the LL/Prince Street Project

The preview of the model modeling for tonight, Nick, showed a very handsome young guy whose face I wanted to do a portrait of... and of course, most of the poses had my view of his face kind of obstructed. But he has beautiful, like a less facially-squished Chris Pine, although Nick is shorter at around 5'4" or so.

Big Pants

I had a vision of this drawing from a glance at a magazine, and what I saw in my head was different from what I actually saw in the mag, so I'm going to try and render it.

Busted 3

I feel guilty that I was never able to draw this illustration to completion since I last worked on it in June. But a full-time job gets in teh way, plus I was never fully sure how I was going to finish it up. But it's looking a bit more 'conceived' now that I've adjusted it a bit further. Will check in with the original commissioner and see if he likes this direction.

Ryan at The Center

Made it a point to go to the Gay Men's Male Figure Drawing NYC group today and got a few drawings in. Mostly I wanted to do my colored pencil sketches again— I get more detail with them in a shorter time than if I were doing monotones, for whatever reason. One would think it was harder but for whatever reason, it makes me work faster.

I was scrolling though old images ot look for something to post on Instagram again, and I found this one. I retooled her and adjusted things a bit, and methinks it's much better in its new tweaked condition.

Black Inked

Playing with new brushes can spur new inspirations. I think I'd be up for finding a style that works with these brushes — they're so intense! I used the Brayer Brushes this time.

At War 2

I was looking for drawings to pose on Instagram for Throwback Thursdays (Of Flashback Fridays) and came upon this old sketch of some amazonian-type armored woman. I tinkered a bit with the details and prepped it for posting, but I decided not to, but figured I can post it here. It's one of the things I found least distasteful about my sketches from 2008. My how I feel I've evolved since then, as an artist!

Welcome Home

I've been watering my friends' plants for the past several months and they're finally returning home so I sketched a quick welcome drawing and left it on their  kitchen bar.

edit: I tried to publish this last night but for some reason it didn't go. Arrgh. My publishing record this week is horrendous. This is supposed to be yesterday's drawing.

Mourning

Don't know why this election has hit me as hard as it has, but I'm not alone in that respect. This may look black, but it's a composition of darkness. I'm having a hard time finding inspiration right now...

He looks rather 80s, and I was inspired in part by memories of Pater Sato faces, as well as the episode on the 3rd Season of Black Mirror hat was all about the 80s, "San Junipero."

The Sum of Its Parts

There's something very retro about this idea I had, and I know I've seen different iterations of it throughout my life (I'm thinking of a Jazz poster from the 80s) but I do like the idea plus it should be about how you render it, right? So let's see what I can cook up.

Strange Times

I am thinking about the possibility of an orange, racist, possibly predatory president and thinking it strange that this country might elect that sort of ... thing... into the presidency. Or I can just think of Dr.Strange, and teh fact that the movie I've long awaited opens today.
