Very Perry 9
Gotta keep at it! My regular work is starring to weigh down on me in the sense that I'm getting busy, so it means I have less energy to draw at day's end. So trying to keep the momentum on this piece. The battle to get a likeness continues...

David at The Center
I didn't want to get up and go draw but I'm glad I did. Today's model David was fun to draw.
While I never seem to finish a piece, I do force myself to draw what's there, yet take my time with it to really craft each sketch as best I can in the moment (and whether I like the pose or not).

Raw Seas, Gentle Conversation
Sorry I was late on this post but I got drunk last night with my new lawyer, who is quite the interesting guy (also because he likes to have cocktails). So today's makeup drawing involves the background from yesterday and new players on the scene.

Brayer Boy
Yesterday's Crop Top drawing inspired me to play with some other ink brushes, these ones being the Brayer Boss series form Kyle Webster's megapack.

Crop Top
Walking home from the gym I passed by a Dairy Queen and looked in the window at the outfit of a young woman grabbing a snack. I loved how she kept it all sleek in black save for a a gray cropped sweatshirt top. Trying to draw the gal in my memory of that brief look was fun. It's amazing how after a few minutes, the memory starts to morph and evolve.

Very Perry 7
Of course, while I thought I made a lot of headway the other day, today I notice so much that can do with a bit more tweaking. So tweak I did. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it makes a difference in the likeness, I feel.

Spread
This pose was inspired by a real life model of mine who liked to pose like this. Not that I'm complaining.

Very Perry 6
Spent a bit more time working on CD Michael's face, and after the progress I made, yesterday's stage was embarrassingly bad, so glad I made some headway!

Very Perry 5
Did a bit more work on designer Michael tonight. Not really as familiar with his face so a likenesss will be hard to win.

Very Perry 4
Continuing the illustrated reportage. The typical hair and makeup adjustments right before the models head out to the runway (or in this case, to the presentation stage). WIP

Slouching Emil 2
I revel in painting red noses—they're something I only learned to do late in life, and I still find myself shying away from doing them because in my head, noses were once best reduced to the barest of details... and it's hard to let go of old habits.

Slouching Emil
A warm acquaintance of mine Julius Juul's new label Heliot Emil had a great shot of one of his models in this pose. I want to be able to rejigger it so I'm not just taking it as a direct reference.

Jimbo 2
Just wanted to tighten up the illustrated proposal for my friend Ernesto's potential new Jimbo Honeychile (his gray cockatiel) tattoo. The Bam Bam lovebird already exists so he wanted to get some sort of tree growing out of his foot to provide branches for Bambam and subsquently Jimbo, but I suggested he just do a kind of ankle bracelet deal with birds on either end. So imagine these wrapped around the shins.

Deep V, Done
When I started this I was exploring an atmospheric layout inspired by a fashion editorial I had seen online. I liked the wide expanse and thought a redhead with pale pale skin in pale green clothes would be a soothing subject. But the linework and rendering style suddenly became issue with the colors, so it did get away from me for a while. I think this is a good result, one that I can at least work on for similar illos in the future.

Deep V 6
I still can't figure this guy out. I wonder if I should even bother trying to finalize him? I do like all the pastels and how it's forcing me to rethink how I color the linework, but it keeps wanting to get cleaner and more precise, which isn't how my natural line is...

Very Perry 3
Trying to get more of the behind the scenes looks started so that I have an easier time coming back to this. Starting is always the hardest, especially when you're having to plan an entire story, as opposed to just letting it unfold (such as when you sketch at a drawing salon). Here I have to go through all my BTS photos to select the best pieces to draw that would tell the best reportage story, not only per designer, but for the season I've covered as a whole.

Very Perry 2
I'm at that stage in a drawing where I'm fumbling around for the shot, trying to nail the likeness, proportions and even the mood for the sketch. These are necessary steps in the process but frustrating ones. ut I need to lay down lines and strokes to know that they do or don't relate properly to the next to form the whole, so it's a process of trail and error. This one's still full of errors.

Jimbo
My friend Ernesto had a tattoo done of a quick caricature I did of his bird, Bam Bam. He asked if I could do his other bird Jimbo Honeychile (please don't ask), and since I'd rather he see a matched pair than someone else make an impostor, I figured I might as well.

Angelic 2
I tweaked last night's drawing and liked it even more, so much so that I now have a couple of versions and don't know which I prefer. This one is better rendered, but has lost something in the translation. I also added a giant sphynx ca because they seem to be trendy now in the comics, ever since Saga's Lying Cat.

Angelic
This was a quick, "Get the daily drawing out" sketch for tonight's entry, but sometimes the really immediate ones are satisfying in and of themselves.

Deep V 5
I've been struggling with his specific features, but I also struggle with how that face looks from afar, as I keep zooming in. It's kind of a different form from a distance, so I need to go with broader strokes instead of specific close up distances. Lightening up hte linework color seems to help establish his redheadedness.

Behind Zenaida
I found an old back view of her that I did for the first time, so I figured we needed a second back view of my Venus of the Rice.

Red Lady & Violet Man
After updating yesterday's drawing, I'm having more (somewhat erotic) experimental fun with the Gouache brushes from Kyle Webster.

Red Lady
I had the Gouache Magic brush already selected so I thought I'd try a very immediate sketch with it. She turned out okay!

Hold Please — Sneer 5
Out in Brooklyn so today's drawing is gonna be a bit late.
edit: while spending the day just at home and in my nabe, I decided to open up this drawing I'd been working on and see what I could do to add some progress to it. I can't recall the technique I had planned for it, or maybe its no longer as relevant in my mind to what I want to do, so I'm just going to run with it and see what turns out. Maybe I wanted it to look like my rather painterly David Gandy drawing? That's a possibility. So far the underpainting is more like my C*mshot series.

Bopped 2
That first version was too raw. I refined some of the features, minimal as they are. I suppose when it's this minial, every detail should be perfect.

Classic Joe
Despite being so tired form yesterday and thinking I'd sleep in, I woke up almost at my regular work hour and ended up going to the Gay Art group and sketching model Joe, who for some reason inspired me to try to draw as classically as possible. I got some pieces I really liked too, albeit unfinished.
