I liked how I rendered teh sweater on teh previous illustration and decided to see if a pantless verion might be fun. What am I thinking? PANTSLESS IS ALWAYS FUN.

Sitting Pretty, Done

Or at least, done for now. I'm a bit unsettled about how I had to crop it to avoid him looking like he's sitting on the toilet, but then again, I cropped it before I added clothing, so maybe the clothing would warrant a more centered placement? We'll see, maybe later.

Happy Thanksgiving! 2019

I always think of my friend Meeling when it comes to Thanksgiving, because we often talk about what she would cook for the holiday. So I sent her a sketch as a hello and greeting today, for Thanksgiving.

Foundation Garments

Earlier while I was showering, I got the image in my head for a fashion/fetish lady dressed in white, old-school corsetry. And it's fun to draw women again, and try o find a new style just for me...

Craned Neck

I always have problems with positioning the body after I start a face with no specific direction in mind, but usually lately it's a 3/4 view, downward. Then to make it work, I usually crane the necks out a bit, but that doesn't leave me many choices afterward.

This face started looking like Jeremy Irons so I went with it and made his hair a bit disheveled. I'm just experimenting but this could possible go somewhere if I figure it out.

Pinky Dance

I was experimenting with laying down marks without outlines using he digital watercolor brushes, but I quickly did not want to continue. But still, it's done and an entry for this day.

Struck 4

Well, while looking for older drawings to post on Instagram, I was struck by how I didn't consider this done, or close to it. I did a few tweaks and posted it. Unfortunately it didn't fare well with my audience, but you win some you lose some.

Jake Redux

Spent the evening at the Prince Street Project drawing Jake again, this time with a private group of just two other artists. I wasn't having a great day—I didn't get to finish anything to my satisfaction, but I did get a lot of practice. Ah well, another time.

I'm going to tweak this face until it's right! And the adjustment to teh direction of the lips is looking right. SO many ittle details in this 3/4 view

Alternative Black Tie

I was invited to a black tie event and I have nothing that is traditionally black tie. So I am experimenting with looks for alternative black time ideas, and this is one that I found looked good but wasn't really reassuring me that I would be appropriately dressed (no matter how much my hostess assured me that anything goes). Anyhow I sketched it to show to my friend to see if it would work.

Western Guy 2

I played with this sketch while taking the subway uptown. The subway trips are fairly short so it's always interesting to see how much I do (or don't) get done.

Jakub Part 2

I really liked Jakub's face so I made an effort to go draw him a second time at the Leslie Lohman/Prince Street Project drawing salon. I don't think I did a great job but I did learn a few new things as a result, I feel.

I saw a woman walking down the street in a very on-trend oversized fleece boa (dunno why they call it that) coat. So naturally I thought, wouldn't it be fun to have a naked man jumping and showing his balls by accident, in that coat? Naturally

It's the little things that I care about, and for me in this particular drawing, it's the right fac and expression, even if it's only 10 percent of the entire sketch! Still, it's the most detail.

Color Study 7—Finney Suit, Done!

OMG, he's finally done. I think I could have tinkered onwayrd, but I realized as I got ready to post it on Instagram, that this drawing has been over  a year in he making! And in my mind, or, I did it a few weeks ago, I'll just keep going back to it when I get to i. Well, it's not what I envisioned, but "done is better than perfect."

I always like a look over the shoulder, and it's even more effective when seen from behind a sweeping and gigantic coat.

I was inspired by rifling through the magazines at the magazine store to try and do more editorial poses, and I thin the hands here move more into an 'in media res' kind of narrative

I didn't like how the mouth looked when the image was reduced to being viewed on a mobile screen, so I parted his lips. I also played with the background a bit, although I published it as just a scant bust.

I couldn't resist just sticking to the face over the technique, although I did keep the chin and other parts silhouetted in my ink line sans outline.

I started out doodling with the possible idea of just playing with eyes and brows, and working on my silhouette technique for this sketch. But the face stared looking like Timothy Chalamet in The King so I decided to run with that.

The solution to his potential nudity? Add pants.

I really do love the hands. I used a reference, but the sketch just looks so fun and authentic with this Deliciously Dry Brush.

I moved the angle lower and the perspective sharper. I think this is better, but a model would help with all the foreshortening.

I saw a photo of some boots and thought, what great boots. What if that's all the guy was wearing? So I tried to draw the pose in my head. Not quite sure about the angle. Maybe I'll get someone to model this for me.

I cropped the body and added the entwined fingers which I really like, but I still feel like he could be seen as sitting on a toilet.

Inky Rastino

I tried to see if there was a style to be had with portraiture and this very raw, dirty dry ink brush. Having a hard time with it thus far because I'm a) not getting a likeness and b) not liking ho this style resembles the style of an illustrator whose work I don't like. Ayyii.

Well, I got it done, but I'm wondering now if I should adjust the illustration style? It's sort of gone its own way because of the way I did the portraits.... urgh, need time to regroup.

STILL not satisfied with the face, and investigating expressions. This guy's higher bridge and steely eyes reminds me of David Gandy. Now I just need to adjust the pose in a way hat works!
