Mistaken Identification

 I love it when my brain sees something that wasn't there, and I can claim it as an original idea. In this case it was the preview icon for an artwork I saved on Facebook, and when I glanced at FB's listing of my saved work, I thought I saw a man instead of the woman on a horse that it actually was.

Well, of course I see men! lol

Sneer 25

 I have resolved to finish this this year, and here's hoping I can. Ugh, it's been a 7 year toil with this one, but as I paint, i realize I have not painted in so long this way that I have to reconsider how to do it. Perhaps that's one reason for the numerous delays—I've not indulged in a fully-painted style in a while, or perhaps, don't have as much interest in it anymore.

Mostly been painting the chest and left arm here, as well as the chin, which didn't seem right...

Darrell's Coat

After publishing my "Red (now Pink) robe drawing on Instagram, a follower felt inspired to pose with his own coat, and we discussed how he might do it. I drew a sketch of a possible pose for him.

Supergirling

I was reading comics online and noticed Supergirl's currently really ugly outfit. I couldn't understand how anyone would design something like that. So I tried to improve it but keeping the thigh hand pants and skirt conceit they started with, but man, that combo is a hard one. I'm not sure I can make it work.

Red Robe, Done

Just tweaked the feet a bit, which were looking too long underneath that robe. Lots of fine tuning details actually, UNDER the robe, just to make sure that even if it looked odd to me, that it was accurate once the robe was on, haha. I'm so Virgo.

White Shirt

I completely retooled my older Ferenc Pinter-inspired drawing and repurposed the face for a fashion sketch A friend told me my fashion illustrations look sinister. I like that idea, even if that wasn't the intent.

After studying a few poses from the recent shows, I decided I needed to correct this pose with a looser pants silhouette. Oh, the constant redrawing

Red Robe 2

Updating this quick sketch from back in September last year.

I tweaked the body underneath the robe just to make sure what was showing out of it was correct. The lengths I go through! Although I didn't really make sure the anatomy was 100% perfect, as I think those legs are skewed an odd angle at the thighs. Oh well. Oh, and of course, I tried the robe out in hot pink, since hot pink and red are my fave combination right now.

Tweaking the anatomy in this view a bit more, but without a real reference (I just eyed the screen grab from Inferno island, and right now, I have no idea where it is, haha), it's a lot of guesswork from experience.

2022 Year of the Tiger

I was inspired by another artist's naive-style of illustrations and thought I'd try my hand at it for a Year of the Tiger graphic. This is a test.

I discovered the work of late artist/illustrator Ferenc Pinter, and I was inspired by him although this piece looks nothing like his work. But he does delve into some nice shadow play, so perhaps that's what I'm trying to emulate here.

Fall Winter Walker

The Fall Winter 2022 menswear collections are on and I thought I'd draw a fave outfit or two. This is from EgonLAB, which really isn't all that new especially since I already wore a Robert Geller version of it several years ago...and even that felt like a version of some other designer. But I still like the look.

One-Liner

I tried, as often is my wont, to put down immediately an image I saw in my head. I was inspired by another image I saw while scrolling through Instagram, but the image that popped up felt wholly enough my own that I had to put it down, but I quickly got overtaken by the conceit of not lifting my stylus and just doing the sketch as one continuous line. Not perfect, but a fun exercise.

Hot PInk Twink

As I was finalizing my drawing last night for Instagram, I got a very strong images of this pose in my head. Right now the sketch isn't what I saw in my head, so I'm going to try and tweak it into submission, but what always happens is the sketch will take over the internal vision at some point and I won't be able to visualize the original anymore...

Boss Redux Rectification 2

I don't know if they'll hire me back (Freelancers learn not to count their eggs, so to speak) but I'm prepping my proportions just in case, mostly because I want to keep perfecting my fashion illo silhouettes. And correcting my old work also helps me feel better about eliminating my past mistakes!

Burberry Cape

The Fall 22 menswear shows have begun, and while I'm lately down on fashion as a whole, I still like to dress up in creative clothing...and this Burberry bomber jacket-cum-cape is right up my alley. I love capes too much even if I never wear the ones I own! Anyhow this is just the shape of it, and I'll will hopefully draw the rest in.

Swing Silhouette 2

That side view with the back swinging out, and the slouch of the body that's just so, plus the right drawing from around the shoulder/arm pit down, is what I'm trying to achieve here. I referenced a few photos but also tried to make it from imagination after studying the folds so I wasn't actually copying...

Anorak Silhouette

 I decided to try and do a runway walk pose with an anorak, like I've seen some kids raw, but it doesn't feel like my style, and yet I also want to to feel like some one else's silhouettes that I've seen. Ah, the desire to be true to oneself yet not knowing which self that is, haha.

 Trying a few more dramatic poses but I really can't decide. I'm realizing I don't have the same sensibilities as I did when I drew comics style avidly, but while I think I've improved as an artist, I don't seem to know how to approach a new comics style for myself.

My friend Justin requested I draw Illyana Rasputin/Magik from the X-men as his Christmas present, and I'm not quite sure how I should approach it, but this is an initial sketch. Too normal, methinks. I think I want to do a pinup style piece.

Swing Silhouette

I'd noted how the swing shape for coats and anoraks in menswear has come to fruition in a lot of fashion and streetwear, and I wanted to make sure I knew how to render them properly. This was the beginning of an angle but not sure it's the right one

White Jeans, Done

I reduced the linework on the jeans to make it more of a knockout of the white against teh ochre background, and I tweaked a few things like his obliques. I'm happier with it as a piece now.

I don't think many are going to see the difference but it's the tiny details that make it for me as an artist—knowing that the toes look more natural, that the fabric marks are just enough to seem creased but not wrinkled, the darkness of the pubes...it's those things that make me tweak something over and over again so that when its posted, I know I've done everything I can to make it as good as I can.

I haven't decided if I'm going to post multiple views of this sketch, since I only drew full body to figure out the anatomy that would be seen in the cropped view. Of course, now I'm just thinking to flesh him out fully, and to that end, I started drawing his face. I basically drew a Freddie Mercury clone.

It looked right from the crop but I, being a Virgo, wanted to make certain it was correct, so I drew in the rest of the guy to make sure my proportions are correct. Yup, they weren't. So now I have to retool.

Scene from Inferno Island

Okay, my first sketch for th new year and it's kind of SUCH a non issue. But then again, this whole holiday season has been such a wash, with Omicron canceling all my plans since Christmas. Ah well, life goes on. So I'm streaming idiotic tv shows.

I suppose because I loved Love Island and the sheer stupidity of some of the character moments (plus I liked Terrace House, a Japanese version of the reality dating tv trope), then Netflix was inevitably going to push the Korean dating show, Inferno Island on me. I hated it at first, but kept hatewatching and eventually got into it. Ugh, I feel like a loser, haha! Anyhow, one scene shot from above had a guy seated in a way that I liked, so I took note of the pose and ran to my computer to sketch it out with some modifications (like the side eye).
