Paul Weller Hair
Paul Weller's retro 60s hairstyle from his Style Council days to present have been the go-to cut of choice for many a male fashion model and editorial spread. A Facebook friend posted a Style Council video today and Paul looked so cool in this haircut and the strangely contrasting style of a Lacoste shirt that I just had to make a drawing. I didn't really copy his face but channeled his appearance. I rather like this sketch.

Sketchbook-y
I went to an exhibition of the ink sketches of artist Rick Barton and I really identified with his sketchpad drawings: he basically drew what he saw but recomposed anything and everything into the pages of his sketchbook, so that the compositions were these wild collages with such a fabulous line quality. I tend to do that myself although I often play with ballpoint pens in natural media, or just ink lines in digital. This is a makeup sketch from tomorrow, posted and timestamped for Saturday since I was too drunk after an entire day out in the city with my friend Rainer.

Scott Crouching
I pulled out an old photo I always thought I'd reference, from my own shoot of model Scott. Since I wanted to toss something together quickly for Instagram, I decided this will be a hard edge graphic rendering, since I was inspired by a Zara clothing collab with an artist of a similar graphic style (although this will definitely veer into the more figurative. Started and done in one day!

Yellow Lining 2
I thought I'd prep this sketch for posting on Instagram, and I still might, but I think I need something more naked to pose, lol

CMNM
I got the idea to do a Clothed Male, Naked Male trope, and maybe the gimmick is each of them is naked in turn? These are the initial figures.

Big Bow 8
I thought, maybe I needed to change the bow from hot pink to something else. But I'm not feeling it, just yet. Pink is THE color right now so I kinda need to use it, I feel. Well, this is just a sample render...

Big Bow 7
I conceived this sketch to be all about that bow, but the weird thing is, when I turn off the bow layer, I really prefer the sketch with less color. Arrrgh. Anyhow, turned off the bow layer so I could concentrate on the skn tones, which I'm doing in an odd gouache technique that is so totally not me (yet).

Jump Shot 2
I always liked this sketch and wondered when I would go back and complete the sketch, but I decided that I was just going to fix the hand and maybe some stray lines, but I wasn't going to make it a super clean finished piece.

Big Bow 6
I changed the fabric draping a bit, adjusted teh eyes, and then (although it's not really drawing) skootched the whole sketch down so the stool is gone. It just looked like he was sitting on a toilet, lol
Big Bow 5
I kinda love his new face. It's more of a They/Them sort of person. Now to tackle that big taffeta bow. It's a take on gender fluid couture, after all.

Big Bow 4
So I had an old layer where I painted a flat skintone, and after I pulled it up, I thought, what if I just paint the watercolor marks directly on to this layer, and I'm quite intrigued by this technique! Normally I'll do the watercolors on a completely separate layer, but this feels like a solid gouache type rendering. It's certainly not new, just new for me.

Big Bow 3
I started changing the linework on my original sketch to a new line quality using my favorite Gouache A Go Go brush that resembles a rough pencil or square chalk pastel. And he's much prettier now.

Big Bow 2
It's funny how things stick in your memory as if they're recent, but aren't actually. I have kept this sketch idea in mind to finish, and I kept thinking it was only from last year only to realize I started this over 2 years ago and never posted it more than once initially. But I started noticing jabots in more menswear, and despite the pussy bow thing being a few years old now, Saint Laurent's new jabots are approaching this idea of mine, so I thought, I better get on this! So, I've played with how I might paint it and this is a bad, bad experiment. But it was the work I did on it today!.

Sneer 28
I must be making progress if I'm not doing details like arm veins! I'm enjoying painting. This Gouache Magic brush I'm using is the right brush for wet blending these 'oils'.

Violet Lad
I wanted to do a companion piece to my After Atong sketch, and I started laying out the highlights for this guy.

After Atong 4
I've been combing the runway shows for an appropriate, light-colored, flouncy or ruffly or gathered dress. This one is from Patou, whose current designer Guillaume Henry I adore, but I'm not sure yet if this is the right dress or top for this sketch.

Vintage Black Label 16
Well, I just got approval that the men's clothing looks good, so now I can adjust and lay them out in a faux ad layout.

Sneer 26
I worked on the penis today, and good lord that was ...hard...to do lol I kept getting distracted trying to envision the proper volumes and how to shade them!

Vreeland-y
For about a year or more, the limp, super fine swingy Diana Vreeland bob has been a fashion hairdo making the rounds. I love it.

YSL-y 4
I went back to a previous layer, because I lost something in the new face when I redid it. And I think I just need to sort out his hand as well as clean up the line work, and maybe I can post him later on Instagram, for my return from vacation post. I might remove the white highlights though...

Pants Off Poses
I had done a series of these positions to try and create a visual narrative, but I realize now I never posted any of them from back in the middle of May! Still rough and unfinished, but I think it's going somewhere. The first guy needs to be scaled up, though, since I did him last, ironically.

Cyclops Formal, 4
Alexander McQueen released their SS23 collection and the signature harnesses they do inspired me to see if I could turn the harness shape into an X. Not bad! Will have to investigate how to finalize the entire look. I think it's a subtle nod to Scott's 90s straps and pouches look.
