Okay, so some blog viewers have recognized me on the street from my drawings - that's a good thing for me, since that means I get a likeness. But I'm not quite ready to post my face on the blog. I think holding back is a good thing. Anyhow, this was a portrait I did with a photo (in the vein of the Mass series, which is a take-off on the Supermass series of fabu artist James Roper) for Facebook. The swirls remind me of Murakami's
kinkier work, but I've always loved my swirly fabric since I was a kid so I can say it's original. And I redrew my face by tracing, which doesn't seem to yield a good product for me. Guess I'm too used to working my own way and tracing? Not so much.
Woo hoo! Getting recognized! That has to be kind of nice.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that you're pretty brill at capturing a likeness. More important, I think you infuse all your work with a spirit that I'm certain is part of you. So maybe that's part of what people are picking up on.
As for not being ready to post an actual photo of your face online, that's understandable. I've been blogging for 7 1/2 years and for the most part, people have only seen my cleavage. The face...only a handful of times, I think. It's kind of nice to let people come up with their own image of me rather having a photo disappoint them completely.
