Pencil 3 Variant

I thought I'd do a sketch for Instagram and while searching for inspiration, I found an old brush I never really used extensively. Pencil Variant 4 has a hidden message in its strokes, but I was just wondering if it would work.

I like the pose and I like the proportions, but I think I did her limbs too 'normal' when I needed to make them more 'fashin'

I might be drawing too much and turning her into a paper doll. But I do like her features, I just think she might look a little too comic book-like,

I usually give my students a straight up and down figure, but this time I thought I'd offer them  one with more zip in her stance, so I made one in contraposto.

Gingko Print

I had to create a pattern-making demo in Illustrator, and I always liked gingko leaves as a print, so I did a quick motif tracing off an actual leaf pic (from a royalty free photo) then I embellished a bit with the line work. I think it's cute! Ever since I started teaching I've been getting more and more used to Illustrator, and it IS just another method of digital illustration.

Grinder Brush

I discovered a new (to me) brush named Grinder, and it's kinda rough and I'm not sure I like it

Contemporary 2

I thought maybe we needed a background color to merge with his shirt/jacket, and emphasis the half-dressed-ness of him all.

I was just doing a doodle but the body is similar to Nicholas' body, with his annoyingly hot Adonis' Girdle and super flat pelvis. But I felt like the face—at least one I out in the hair—felt too contemporary? Like it's the hairstyle one expects on Instagram nowadays? To be fair, I HAVE been drawing this hairstyle for a while (or some variation of it) but I suppose culture has caught up and I need something fresher...

I added a second figure. I'm trying to draw more American black features, versus the African ones I've been trying to emulate from the runway models.

I suddenly got the idea to do a very stylized, outline-free sketch of very long skinny, twinky, Hedi Slimane-type models. But I'm not loving this face, but that's okay, I'm just mapping out poses and feelings.

Laidback, Done

I got him ready for Instagram, finally. I went through all my references and never found exact reference, but I did have similar views that I was able to glean the right anatomy (or so I hope) for his arms, hands and belly.

Popped Up Collar

A student of mine designed something he didn't even know how to figure out—as many of them have done. I find it's been part of my job to design the designs my kids make so they can make flats out of tehm. I remember being like that, except I always tried to figure things out, because I'm wired that way. Which is maybe why it's ideal I try to figure it out for them too. This was a vampire collar, as I called it.

Crouching With an Extra Long Belt 2

I added another guy possibly in designer waders to overlay the background. Not sure what to do at this point, but doodling is always good for exploring solutions.

Hoodiehead

I usually do a half clothed figure, usually a naked man opening a coat or a shirt, but I wanted to try one with a hoodie, and I thought, maybe he's only got the hood attached to him. Et voila. A quick rough to get me started, plus I'm testing a new brush, the Palette Knife Gritty.

I really like this simple sketch but i do need to figure out exactly how his abs and arms anatomy look in this view. I'm wining it as usual.

I went in a completely different direction with the black guy, but I'm not sure which I want to keep! I find I like the drawing here more, but the previous version might be more attractive? I don't know.

I decided to concentrate on the new guy on the right, and devise a face for him based on imagination. I kinda like the contrast but not sure where this is going...

Crouching With an Extra Long Belt

I was reading some fashion magazines at school today (we have an excellent fashion magazine collection, as one would expect of FIT) and I saw a shoot with a guy wearing an extra long studded leather belt. Clothed, of course, so I did a naked version in a different pose, maybe for Nicholas to pose in. Not sure the pose works, but I had to draw it to find out.

Still sorting out the abs on this pose, and it feels like minor sketching going on but it's still moving forward.

Mouse Bread

I posted a graphic on Facebook (yes, I'm old) to crowdsource whether or not I should toss the rest of my bread. 100% said toss. I tossed.

Nicholas at The Center

My current fave model Nicholas went to pose at The Center for the first time, and I haven't drawn livve in months so I thought I'd show support and go. I didn't really want to go but the FOMO was strong too because I love Nicholas's body—he's almost like the bodies I draw already from imagination.

Subway Guy

Every week I head up to my friend's place in the UWS to water his plants while he's away from the country. Last week I did this sketch and completely forgot about posting it, so I am retro-fitting it in for today since I don't want to have to redo all the prior posts to keep the dates more accurate. It was a guy in a hoodie sitting in front of my on the train, and he was looking at his phone the whole time...so I took the op to do a quick sketch of him on Procreate on my iPhone

Gold Head

This sketch was rendered in gold, hence the post title. Nothing much, just a doodle.

Holiday Peace 3

My clients felt the ideas weren't playful enough (they had gotten used to me making literal games as holiday cards) so I had to dream up some new designs this week. This is me doodling them out.

Black Cat Man, Done

I finally posted this to Instagram, and true to form, as I post, I correct things I didn't see when I was working on it full size. Anyhow, it's done, not perfect. But done is better than perfect!

Black Cat Man 10

I'm not100% sold on this guy;s face, and whenever I look at my older drawings of him I like the older ones as well, but this face I feel is more modern and more current. Although I've had to shave down the cheeks and jawline a bit, plus I performed a lot of triage when i realized his lower half wasn't centered to his upper half, nor to his face! I suppose it's because I drew it with teh cat, which was also the reason his body looked so long in the beginning. So even if I planned on posting it tonight, I'm going to pause and allow me time to look it over with fresh eyes tomorrow.

Black Cat Man 9

I completely retooled him—his eyes weren't even, his coloring was getting off, and he was looking too early aughts and not crrent at all. But I changed up his hair and starting making very bright pink marks for his extremities, and I rather like the direction. Looking back at the other versions, he's not as handsome, but I think he's more now, and more interesting.
