Blouson

After buying a vintage 80s shirt jacket that has a full blouson AND full bell-like sleeves, I've been into the idea of a really blousey jacket like this.

Innocent 9 (done?)

I think it's done, even if it's not perfect. As I once said, "Done is better than perfect!" I think the crux of the matter is I don't know if it looks like him, but I really am not as familiar with his features having met him only a few times. i did compare my drawing with other shots of him from different angles, which often tell me how certain features play out in a pose I'm working with. It helps me understand why parts look a certain way from the angle I'm drawing, because I can see from other angles how they a structured.

That said, I'm still not completely confident, but then again, as artists, I dunno if we ever are...

Bacteria

I was inspired by a photo of algae or coral that Jarrod Scott posted on an Instagram story, so I thought they'd make interesting graphic motifs. Now, just need to figure out how such motifs would exist in an artwork...

Slouching Emil 3

Here's an old one I just picked up again: I haven't touched this sketch since almost a year ago. And I completely changed his face.

Conte Skater

Really, I just drew him for his hair, as it's based on a young Brit kid who was ahead of me at the checkout like at Cos in the WTC.

Rough Poses 4

True enough, I dusted this off again to tinker tinker tinker. Not that it looks much different, but it was more about anatomy tweaks before I posted it on Instagram.

Blown Out

Another one of those mistaken identity ideas. I was browing through a site and thought I saw an image that later proved to be different, paving the way for me to draw something unintentionally original.

Stalking The Night, 2

I can't seem to get the eyes right...

Stalking The Night

I imagined a very editorial-like shot composed of a lean, hip looking guy staring directly at the camera as he's walking by, I thought Id lay out the image and see if i can urn it into a finshed drawing, and so far, I'm quite happy with the pose as it looks like the one in my head.

Eric, Done (I hope)

I opened the most recent file up again today after seeing Eric post an Instagram story, and I figured it looked like him enough that I shouldn't overwork it (any more than I already have!). So methinks he's done for now. Unless I look back again later and have horrible recriminations about my abilities!

Sphagettits Western

I had a silly idea for a drag-like version of a Raf Simons western shirt.

Brush With The Past

The Badass Brush looks great with the look of a 50s fashion illustration!

Bernardo

Bonus post: while in a meeting today, I doodled my coworker Bernardo. I didn't have my glasses on and I really can't draw things from a distance without them anymore, so some features were wrong. That said, he complimented me on my confident line, because I did his nose in one stroke. The woman was another person from the new building we're working in and I'm not sure what her name is but I drew her too.

Anarchy Mode 5

The more work I do on him, the less it looks like him, yet the more correct the work becomes. Ugh, no wonder I tend to leave it for later.

Surprised 2

Yesterday's drawing was terrible. Today's is an improvement on hat file, but not by very much. For whatever reason, I'm trying to draw features I'm not necessarily drawn to draw, but what I see on actors and personalities whom I think are handsome but not o my usual taste.

Surprised

I should know better than to try and sketch after a really hefty workout My HIIT regimen really takes all the energy out of me.

Innocent 8

It's quite possibe that this is done with this iteration. I won't know until I let some time pass though, as I've belabored this drawing a bit much, methinks.

Retro Kids

Just thought I'd round out the family but not really feeling the facial work on these kids.

Salaryman

It's been such a long and tiring week (I got sick and our offices moved to Brooklyn, which is a commute I haven't had to do in forever) that as I was drawing, I fell nodded off, and woke up thinking, huh, I didn't think I was drawing that. But I like him. It feels a bit naive in a way.

Vintage Hat Lady

I was feeling a very 50s vibe after seeing a ot of vintage illos on Pinterest...

She was actually drawn on the 14th as a makeup sketch for the 12th, and as a complement for the "Salaryman" of the 13th's sketch. Complicated, huh?

Proportions 4

I retooled an old sketch that didn't work, and now it feels so much better, although it could still be improved, I can see. But for now, here it is.

Pants Off

I got a pose idea for a new sketch, so I sketched it out in anticipation of finishing it more fully.

Proportions 3

I think the one on the right has the right level of proportion and detail. The left one, while I tried to reduce it, still has too much detail o be as editorial. Ugh, I'm fighting my own tendencies

Minimally Inky

I'm suffering from a cold or the flu or something today, so I can barely get it together...

Old School Ink LIne

Happy 4000th Post! That's 4000 days I've been blogging. Wow, time flies—it's been over 11 years.

I've been playing with the ink brushes and mentally channeling illustrators I've seen in Pinterest, particularly Fred Greenhill whose work I always admired but never exactly wanted to emulate until now.Mostly because of his skill with his lines and figures, there was an easy elegance about him. I'm trying to se if I can develop a style of my own for inks with these digital brushes.

Proportions 2

My proportions have been especially off, in my view, when sketching oversized looks. I really need to hone in on the body underneath, so that the fabric just doesn't look huge and bloated. I like this sketch, but I think teh volumes could have a little less stiffness and be a little more relaxed.

Proportions

I was feeling off about my fashion proportions. Even in the past 10 years I've been varying them a lot, it doesn't seem as innate as it once was. So I spent some time practicing, and working a looser ink illustration style inspired by an artist I found on Pinterest (whose work looks nothing like this, but inspired the looseness nonetheless). I'm gonna try sketching more in this vein trying to see where it leads.

Odd Ink Sketch

I guess it would help if I had an idea what I was drawing before I just went ahead and doodled. That is a bizarre outfit. with that haircut.

Sketchbook Trial

I had the SketchBook app in my Mac but I don't recall using it at all before. I must have when I downloaded it, but the controls seem both familiar and unfamiliar. In any case, this is a sketch I did to explore the different tools and media. And boy is it terrible—that facial construction is SO OFF.

Bunny 2018.1

I spend some time refining some glovd hands for her. I've always been proud of my hands, but lately, I've noticed I've gotten too lax with them so I tend to do shortcuts a lot. Even if it's stylized I had to make sure these were okay, with slightly exaggerated but elegant fingers.

Bunny 2018

I was going to repost my Valentine's day Bunny mask girl for East Sunday, but I couldn't help myself when I opened up the file, and at first started to make minor corrections, which later lead to retooling it completely. I rather like where it went. So I made variants too.
