That Fashion Smile 2

Fleshing it out... although I think maybe the proportion is a bit long.

That Fashion Smile

My last pose for my fashion portrait client project is more of him smiling, so I'm doing a full-on Gruau-esque smile.

Go-go 90s, Done

I fixed up his "I know you want to fuck me" sneer and abs a tad.

Go-go 90s

I got so many nostalgic feelings about yesterday's doodle that I needed to finish him up properly. He reminds me of all the shaved head go go boys and hotties I used to lust after in the 90s, when a shaved head was like the ultimate sexy hairstyle, and everyone who did it suddenly became hotter by a whole factor up.

Inky Distractions

I'd been painting my commission so much (And it's done, woohoo!!) that I needed to do something with my regular ink line, but I had no idea what, so I doodled.  I did however come up with a minimalist design for a nude (show here in the lighter gray wash) and thought that could be interesting to finalize, so I did an overlay on top of the original rough pose.

SS22.11

I'm quite happy with how this guy turned out: I decided at the last minute not to make him dark African as I had originally imagined, but more of a light-skinned African American. I didn't even have to use any references, so I love how he evolved with each paint application.

SS22.10

I applaud the inclusivity of different looks and ethnicities in model casting nowadays, but I can't escape my on personal aesthetics either. I had to redo yesterday's face because I wasn't sure it was the right model for this look, or for that matter, how I had 'cast' the entire collection. So I ended up retooling yesterday's guy into a Filipino-style face, with the older hairstyle I had originally envisioned for this look. He looks a bit tisoy!

SS22.9

I was trying to do a Sri Langkan face, but my inexperience with the racial features made me unsure of what to make of my drawing, so I opted to leave this as was and revisit it later.

McQueen Pants 2

As I'm drawing this I realize I have drawn this pose before, and I'm wondering if I should continue the drawing or pull up the previous one that isn't finished. I went ahead and drew some more...

SS22.8

This one the client actually called out for me to make the feet smaller, lol

SS22.7

I realize that as I'm drawing this second project for this client, I totally missed the mark on the first set of sketches. It's funny how I was so proud of what I'd done, but couldn't see the mistakes that i think are glaring (and being corrected) now. Like foot size. I made their feet huge!

SS22.6

Another cryptic detail. Although to be fair, I do love drawing elbow draping.

SS22.5

More work on the commission that I can't actually show nor explain!

McQueen Pants

I saw these amaaaaaazing Alexander McQueen bowed pants for SS2021, and i can't believe I missed it when it first came out. I doubt I would buy this since I have nowhere to wear them to, but I love them so much I will draw them.

Please Be Seated 2

I'm really liking this sketch, although i'm looking for a photo reference to help me with the pose, as I can't be certain of how the back (and his pecs, and legs, and abs) would look in this situation.

Dick Slip

I love an accidental sighting. It smacks of getting away with something you shouldn't have seen, although as I was drawing this, I realized I was totally drawing Plygirl poses, where the guys were doing normal things but just happened to be naked. Omg, my influences make themselves known!

Please Be Seated

This is one of those doodles that developed well. I've been tooling around with the Gouache a Go Go brush in Photoshop, but using it was a Charcoal stick instead. It's changing my style up a bit as I deal with the new 'medium'. The squarer brush makes me feel like my linework is doing an offshoot of David Downton's style.

Joseph, Part Next 6

Even if this was not meant to be a 3/4 view, the requests by the client to show more of the shirt resulted in this experiment.

Sidewalker

I was washing dishes and looking outside my window, and observing how one nurse/medical practitioner's loose pants draped as they walked on the sidewalk below me. It was a great exercise in understanding the draping I have been referencing from still fashion shots, so that I could just drape in my head instead of just copying from photos.

Joseph, Part Next 5

I presented this to the client, who was very pleased, until he asked for changes, lol

Making Faces 2

I pulled out this old sketch from Oct.22nd to post on Instagram, just retooling it a bit to make it more finished. Always good to revisit old work that might not have been impressive enough the first time around...and I certainly have a ton of them that could be rescued from the archives!

Hudson Headboard 2

I did several versions for the client but here's one rough I don't think will be chosen, so I'll post that as my entry for today.

Blackwalk, Done

I was way late in posting on Instagram, so I finalized this image to post, which seemed apt for striding into a new year.

Model Friends, Done (5001st Post!)

I finally adjusted some details I was procrastinating on, especially after the exercise in trying to change Max's hair. But now it's done, and sent off to the printers to finally get printed for deliver. And it's a lovely image to be my 5001st blog post!

Joseph, Part Next 4 (5000th Post!)

This is my 5000th post! I can't believe I've been posting that many, but there should be at least one post (even if it wasn't done on the day of its post) for each day of the year I've been blogging since 2007! It's been a wonderful practice and evolution of my own work, as I can say I've improved leaps and bounds from how I was when I started, and I can only go further I believe.

It's also been a harrowing past few days in the US with all the political strife and terrible coup-like terrorism from the far right. So whiole I might have wanted to post a beautiful completed piece, I can only post a work in progress. But it's a fave that I hope will turn out beautifully. The likeness isn't done, but getting there!

SS22.4

Another fave face from the croquises.

SS22.3

I have it in my contracts that I can't publish the finished pieces and tag/name the client until they themselves reveal the final things, but my roughs I own, so I'm being good by only showing portions of them.

SS22.2

I think I'm just going to be consumed with drawing these croquises, but that's fine—I love these jobs, they're actually fun.

Meditative

I was watching the Headspace Guide To Meditation on Netflix, and aside from it being an amazing help with me learning to finally mediated (I'd apparently gotten it somewhat before, but no one confirmed if I had or hadn't, and I had no idea), but the animations had a nice loose quality about them that I'd always admired, and wanted to sse if I can simulate that but with my own style.

SS22.1

 Plugging away making croquises!

Saturday, January 2, 2021

Model Friends 10.5

My client asked me to try drawing her bf with his current long hair, but I wasn't feeling it and neither was she. So this job is essentially complete, although I still want to re-render the black of Max's shirt.

Fug

My first drawing of the new year is fug as hell! Thankfully, I've got others up my sleeve for other days.
