Greg at Kung's

This is sort of a weird entry because I did these on Saturday but I'm putting them up for Sunday instead. I've been drawing a lot but just not posting them on time!

I put myself out of my comfort zone with these as I never paint with watercolor for live nude sessions, much less direct with watercolor without any pencil guides. It was a good exercise even if I'm not so keen on the finished sketches. When I did the portrait in colored penicl I tried to continue the experimentation but took too long despite having an entire hour of 3 20 minutes segments... Still, it's good to change things up.

Conte Crayon Face

Been playing with the new Conte Crayon brush in Photoshop and it has a delicate, charcoal like line that made me want to draw something equally delicate.

Ellaria Sand?

I downloaded a lot of new Kyle Webster brushes in Photoshop and decided to play with the Conte crayons as I search for a new line work medium for my sketches. I rather like the effects of these-they remind me of natural media charcoal sketches. The sketch I made also reminded me of Elaria Sand from game of Thrones, (or at least the actress who played her). Alhough I feel like my figure here is a bit too manly.

Loomis Heads

I was watching a YouTube vid of someone demonstrating how to draw the Loomis way, and the focus was on how he drew heads. These were the sketches I made as I followed along.

Timber Wolfy

I drew a new pose from yesterday's croquis then I kept on redoing the features as I played with costume details. I did a few so I thought I'd toss them all in a gif.

Stand and Pose

I was going to redesign the costume of an old Legion character, Timber Wolf, so I began by sketching a heroic stance. But I realized after the fact that dynamic as it is, it wouldn't show off the costume redesign as much so I better draw a more head-on stance.

Waiting Room Sketch

I had watched a Procreate tutorial online earlier and wanted to test out some of the new stuff I learned, so I did this quick sketch on my iPhone while at the doctor's office waiting for my appointment.

Dior Detail

One of the few looks I liked form the recent European menswear shows was a shirt/jacket detail from Dior Homme. I couldn't resist drawing it.

Pantsless Hipster

I saw an image in one of my Instagram feeds that I follow, and I got inspired to draw one hipster without a key piece of clothing or two.

Struck 3

Making it look more composed...

Struck 2

Trying to see how I can make this a more resolved composition. That hand—while expressive-seems odd. I might have to resolve that some more.

Sneer 18

I totally changed his body to reflect the real model more, because as per usual I lengthened his frame. I might have wanted it that way at first, but I think I'm going for more realistic proportions even if I'm idealizing him regardless.

Struck

The title refers to when a model is posed, and this was a doodle that sort of fell into looking like some composed sitting. Which I rather like, except I'm not sure where it's headed.

Ernestiger, Done

Leg tattoo kitties are a go!

All American Jock, Done

I decided to show off his jock dad bod. I rather like how he turned out, although even after I published it on IG I now see things I want to change...

All-American Jock (Facial Structure 6)

I kept fiddling with the anatomy of the arms because I wasn't satisfied with whether or not the muscles would look that way.

Rastino

So Rastino actually came to pose for me, but I took a few shots I might use for reference, and decided o give him a sketch of himself. I thought I could do better but he liked it so I gave it to him.

Rastino Pose

I was chatting with a male model on IG about having him pose for me, and I thought of a few drawings I might want to do. This was a pose for a possible sketch.

A Dark Phoenix

"A", because it's not my definitive view of her, but as I was drawing this face I just thought it would be interesting if it were her. This is the kind of drawing I enjoy doing, but if I was reading a comic book, I think I would hate this very particular take on what should classically appear the way my memory recalls the art. Also because Jean wouldn't have such thick eyebrows... nor any pupils...

Facial Structure 5

It's a bit of a struggle getting both the right stance, because I want his musculature to stand out but I also want to make sure he looks relaxed. I think the clothing both helps and huinders so I tried moving the figure more to he cener to get his other arm in view...

Location, Location, Location

I was trying to illustrate for a potential client how I can add animation to an illustration to make it an Instagram story, using an illustration I had previously posted.

Facial Structure 4

I thought I'd give his disembodied head a body! But I'm still not sure what he's wearing.

Red Runn

One of my favorite models, Runn, posed at the newly re-minted LGBTQ+ Art Group at The Center. There's something about him and the way he poses that gets me inspired, even if he physically isn't necessarily what I would expect of a 'favorite model,' on paper.

Facial Structure 3

I tried to improve the drawing by adjusting the eyes and septum, and while it started looking more 'correct,' it didn't look better. Swathes of color were applied too, to no real improvements. I eventually posted the one form yesterday on Instagram. Sometimes your first instincts are best.

Facial Structure 2

I tried to shade in the facial planes without a reference, especially for the chin area which I'm still weak (no pun intended) with my skills. That chin shaping is still new to me.

Facial Structure

I'm a self taught artist, despite my BFA—I learned how to draw more from my own exploration than I did at Fine Arts college, because they didn't really teach me how to render or be a draughstman. So it was only recently that I came across using a circle and a flatted circular plane as the bases for a 3/4 view of a face. And while I began doodling this face as I normally do, without any such structure, I went back in and then drew teh shapes in the background and adjusted my sketch based on that, and I think it turned out better. Of course, the guy's a bit wide-eyed but that's because I was thinking of Andrew Scott, who has a bit of a crazed look in his eyes.

Ernestiger

My friend Ernesto has wanted a classic tiger/big cat tattoo for the longest time, and I finally acceded to drawing one for him. If I can't stop him from getting a new tatt, I can at least help make it ook as original as possible.

Matt C Portrait 4

Got a lot of ground covered on his face, and now I need to address the mass that is that padded muffler.

Wide Blue

I saw a very standard ecomm photo of a guy in an Issey Miyake shirt, and I really liked how it fell on his body, revealing just enough of his form underneath while maintaining teh width of the currecnt style of oversized proportions. I had a more realistic rendering in mind but I just dashed through this one and ended up with this very stylized version.

Casual Standing

I saw this gal in a random Insta post, and I just wanted to render her contraposto while playing with a new Photoshop brush, the Oil Small Tip, and using it as a ink outliner.
