I realize I've not really drawn someone who is South Asian, or at least not convincingly in my fashion sketches. I did some before when I worked for Boss, but now there's a specific idea I got from one model in the new Dries show. He doesn't even look like this but it's the impression I got.Now I just want to make him more believable.

Just refining this guy's stance more, and I like the awkward movement in motion, although I'm not fond of the face I drew. Still, it's a good walking pose considering it's all from memory.

The menswear fashion shows have been going full force in Milan and Paris, even if there's little to celebrate here in NY, but I nevertheless got lost in them as there was much new to be seen. I started by drawing figures that I would then add clothing to once i decided on my favorite looks, and these are the initial croquis.

Towel Toga 2

I started refining the face more and fell in love with the results—he reminds me of an amalgam of some of my fave male models: A bit of Kiko Henriques mixed with older model, Axel Hermann, although perhaps only in the way I see it. But I do love it when a face feels realistic to me, esp since I'm only drawing it from imagination. I always remark on things like this because I never thought I could be able to do this at all, if you asked my younger self.

Towel Toga

I have a very large bath sheet that i use after showers, and I have come to use it very specifically and repeatedly over teh years, wrapping myself in a makeshift toga after each wipedown, because it's too heavy and large to wraparound my waist. I pull the right side across my torso and usually tuck it under my armpit, while the rest of the towel drapes over my shoulders and then falls from my left shoulder down toward my feet. Today I was holding it slightly differently and I liked how the draw looked with just my one nipple showing, so I studied the pose and drape and decided to draw it. This is the initial study.

I refined them, cleaning out the edges and darkening the lines, really trying to see how they look in the layout. Was considering not doing them as a duotone but adding a white fill town for them, but perhaps with an offset drop shadow kind of thingie...

I drew a few more switches and canes, this time based off of Nicholas' own designs, to add them to the layout with his beet red whipped ass.

Potential Nude Study

While browsing the net I found a slew of nude paintings done by artists in the past, and I found one whose leg positions I liked. So I adapted it with a slightly different top position, and made a study of it in case I want to do a sketch that I can ask some models to pose for. 

Illustrationary

I have a book of 100 Illustrators that I bought long ago and seldom read. I brought it out and have been perusing it because I had to move it when I installed my AC this past week. It's inspired a colorful drawing that I saw in my head as a general response to seeing all the great work in the books (it's 2 parts) and with the menswear shows in Milan this week, I thought of a fashion illustration.

I realized my proportions were wrong—his body wasn't wide enough, his head wasn't stooping low enough, and his dick was too large. So, adjusted.

I got very into drawing this, working on it here and there basically all day yesterday, and I'm now worried it has too much of a rendered finish as I was trying to leave it more sketchy.

I keep adding new drawings. I wonder how many I'll end up with? But after I got all the main poses out of the way, I could look into the more subtle poses and this is one of them. Its not too sexual yet it's very exposed, so it feels more editorial.

I'm experimenting with adding on additional fetish gear, but when I showed this to my model Nicholas, he thought maybe I went too far LOL

Although to be fair I do agree with him. I was thinking of keeping teh headpieces and maybe the nipple tape, but I showed him a version with just the headpiece so he might have fixated on that look already.

Lipstick On A Pig

A senator wrote back to my brother about teh Big Bogus Bill wending its way through senate, and he said that no matter how much lipstick they put on this pig, he was still voting No. That inspired me to draw the pig.

So this was near-completely redrawn with a different photo I took as reference, although not all the details there yet. I'm playing with both the amount of detail as well as the color rendering for this particular drawing, even if I'm not sure how much of it I really want to include in my subsequent layout/series.

I took a few reference pics of this pose but I'm trying to make sure I don't stick to my own tropes, particularly my penchant for this angle and featuring the lower pelvic shelf.

My original inspiration came from a post about a brochure full of color field graphics, which gave me the idea to do flat color planes as backgrounds / simplified situational props, with male figures positioned on/around them (hence what this guy is leaning on). But with the heavier Charcoal Pencil brush I was using and the flat colors I originally applied to the figure, it started evolving into a more layered serigraph-like style that I'm not 100% sure about, but I guess I ran with it. It's an amalgam of comics, anime, Patrick Nagel, Playgirl layouts and whatever else live in my lifetime of art influences.

 I'm happy about the arm foreshortening, though it's definitely something I'm still trying to perfect.

I gave him a more current haircut, with teh waves/curls brushed forward. What are we calling this haircut? Every kid wears it without it having a name that I know of. I've observed boys (I think they may be 16) at the gym and all their hair is just brushed from the vertex forward, to create this look. I can't do it myself anymore without my bald spot shining through (ah, age).

Updating, with finer details on the hands and adjustments. But I dunno about that hairstyle. It suggests a slicked, wet do but it also feels a bit...old?

I saw a catalog design online on Insta, and all the artwork in it had planes of color. I was inspired by it to do sketches with naked figures in front of planes that suggested walls and floors (something I already do) but this was going to be a more summery version. He came together pretty  quick, although I'm using the Charcoal Pencil brush which is a bit heavy, so I'm not 100% happy with it as a piece yet (although I do like how the figure turned out).

Denim Gown

I've had this gown idea in my head for quite a while, made from elements of a denim jacket. It's been done before but I wanted to do my version, but I started the sketch before I knew what the design was going to be...so I stopped right here (for now).

I thought maybe there should be two hot guys posing, but I keep thinking he's also goona be doing a Pooh and have a shirt with no pants, but that feels redundant. So still planning.

Hello Sailor!

I was actually trying to draw a sexy guy wearing an ironic Jughead style crown, but as I was laying in some guile lines to make the crown, it turned into a sailor hat and then I kind turned the rest of him into a Jean Paul Gaultier character. I'm not mad at it though.

(Not) Student Works

I decided if I wanted to post this sketch to social media, I needed to make an original outfit. So this is the  original sketch being retooled, but I couldn't figure out what to design so I just cleaned out teh old and sketched in a possibility.

I put together a new pose idea after seeing a porn image, and I thought Id do my own version of it, using a guy reading his smartphone while in the nude.

I introduced my friend Rainer to my new muse Nicholas, and while they were talking about their craft at the storage facility where we met, I took a quick pic because I liked Nicholas' stance.

Quick Vision

So I had a very quick image in my head of a possible drawing, and this one was heavy on the color blocking. Unfortunately, when I pout it down on pixel, it wasn't quite what I imagined in my head, but the act of creating the image actually changed my perception of what was in my head, so now I can't remember the original now that I have seen this bad version. Sometimes the vision is so strong that you can spend days trying to bring it to life. Other days like this? Gone in a sec.

Woke up with a strange pain in the side of my pec, and I did a quick drawing to send to my doctor for a quick consult online.

Ray In Repose 2

I was home sick all weekend (caught some bug that was not Covid) and ended up watching an entire season of Portrait Artist of the Year that I had missed. So I thought I'd revisit Rays portrait since it's way overdue.
