Tulle Time 2

I pulled this sketch out of obscurity and hope it will find resolution soon. I retooled his face a bit and started cleaning up the overly long anatomy. I'm daunted by the tulle he was wearing so I've turned off that layer until I'm ready to tackle it.

Hair Tossed 3

He evolves again. This time he's shaggier, like the way many of my 18 year old students are wearing their hair. I often wonder if it's a deliberate style, or just a non-styled style? Anyhow, he's more naked than ever, this one.

Haitr Tossed 2

I wondered if this counted as a continuation of the previpus iteration of Hair Tossed, or as a completely new sketch since I started over? The inspo is still Jaclyn Smith's shot in the Charlie's Angel's intro, but the sketch is completely new. Also, the model's gotten even younger.

It's my niece's birthday so I made her a silly graphic for social media posting.

Zara-ed

I was window shopping on Zara, because they do have some of the best ecomm styling and models around. One model's hair had theses flyaway locks in the back so I wanted to capture that in a profile drawing.

Hair Tossed

Building on yesterday's inspo, I went further and just redrew the angle to get the hair movement I've been thinking of portraying. it's funny how the hair is the priority, and the body pose will have to work after I get the proper hair in! But this isn't right yet either.

Overhead Chair 2

I had a specific hair style in mind (Jaclyn Smith in the opening of Charlie's Angels, to be exact...but male) but damn if that overhead angle is difficult to figure out in the nude!

I looked out my window and saw a chair partially hidden by the corner of a building, and I got an idea for a nude male viewed from above, holding the chair amidst a setting of more chairs. I realize belatedly this was influenced by the cover of Everything But The Girl's Language of Life album cover. Amazing how you bring up old, tucked away personal references decades later.

Crouched On The Couch 2

I think I chose the word 'crouched' only because of the foreshorted aerial angle, but he's just sitting in. Anyhow, I realized the problem with trying to shoehorn a face into a pose would be more difficult than creating a head with the proper positioning on a pose. So I retooled here a bit. okay a lot. Oh, and there's a penis now.

Crouch On The Couch

I started with a doodle of a face with a particular stare, and the angle I was going for required a bit of aerial foreshortening, so I thought maybe his posture's crouched a bit on a couch, but I'm not sure I'm quite getting my visual here. Well, it's just a start.

She's a little more contemporary. It's the brows and the lips I'm trying to be more modern about—no lined lips, dewy skin, and thick brows. Still not 100% there tho. Those eyes could use some work.

Yeah another attempt t a sketch, this time on the train back to NY (it was a short but good stay) but with the delays and my dying iPhone battery, this is all I got.

I brought him into Photoshop hoping to flesh him out thoroughly, but now I'm wondering if I'm losing the immediacy of the initial marks by doing so?

Purple Face

I'm on the train a lot! This time, on my way to Hudson, for the first time this year. It's with a bit of trpidation that I go, because I can't afford to spend money right now while I'm salary-less during teh summer break. Oh sure I have saving sbut I don't spend needlessly nowadays. But I do need to see my friend Greg since it's been ages since we had a proper hang. Anyhow, this is barely. sketch, as I don't really care much for drawing a lot on Procreate Pocket!

Flyaway Hair

Despite being another Procreate Pocket drawing on the train, I was able to get some good light linework in this one, which is really difficult when You realize I'm painting with my fingers and can not see the point of contact with the phone! He's still pretty rough though.

This was a sketch I did while taking the subway, hence the roughness. I'ts hard to get good detail with this app, so I tried a larger scale but alas, it's still too rough

I realize I'm painting an old way, including old school looks and makeup.I need to update ugh!

I tried out the Antique Glaze brush and the resulting marks had a Mia Carpenter (an 80s fashion illustrator of the West Coast school) feel to them, so I went with it. Although I'm curious to see how I can make itmy own.

Stand Tall

So this is what it looks like for me when a doodle just works. I wanted to do a nude, from behind and above, just like Rene Gruau sometimes draws. Except naked. And inspired by my friend Ernesto (those traps and neck are very him) He got done in about a day without any stress.

Ralph

Ralph C is a visiting figure model from Florida who was staying at my friend Francisco's place this past week. As a thank you to his host, he volunteered to pose for Francisco, who invited me to draw Ralph with him. I was very inspired and got some of the best drawings I've done in a life drawing session this year.
