Achieving Awkward

It's hard to draw natural looking poses that are unusual. Fashion is full of them right now, and coming up with one without a reference is pretty difficult. The intent, the anatomy — and esp. the face and expression — all play a part in it. I'm liking how this is looking but wndering how it will evolve? That right hand of his (our left) needs work.

Daniel

Woke up later than usual tthis morning, and didn't know if I wanted to get to a 10 am drawing session at The Center, but I finally relented halfway through the class (fortunately, they only made me pay half the fee). The model Daniel was shock still, so that was a plus. Got a decent portrait out of it, methinks.

Lost Time

As in, making up for it, specifically yesterday's drawing. Detail of a pose I'm thinking of doing for another series.

Grayboy

I like the hair, I like the odd color blocks. I'm a tad too sleepy to do much with it, just like I worked so hard last night and this morning that I forgot to draw.

Fleshy 2

Not so much the flesh part but his face, which I tried to retool but I don't like the end result very much. Maybe I'll just leave his here for now.

A Second' Season, 3

I was not happy with the legs. I drew it and redrew it multiple times. I realized I had it wrong and that the left leg (his right) should be forward. But I can't decided how best to pose him completely.

A Second' Season 2

I needed to get the proportions right for a fashion illo - it was too realistic.

Fleshy

I was inspired by an old sketch of Tom Colley to try and do anther torso drawing, but with more detail. Except I got afraid of failing and so I held back on the detail...

Hair There 4

I think he needs to be a proper white blonde.

Blue Ryder

The navy ryder's (rider's?) jacket was one of the notable pieces in the Second/Layer collection his season, although really, it's no going to look especially different in a drawing. But the pose of this model was nice when I shot him, so I'm starting with that.

I fell asleep early without drawing or posting last night, so this is a makeup drawing.

The Hairy Beast of Fulfilling

I like to draw during work meetings (of which we have A LOT). So when a co-worker lamented the problems of fulfilment of a romotin as the 'hairy beast of fulfilling," I had to sketch it out.

For The Good of X 3

For The Good of X was his screen name on another site where we met to rant and rave about comics. Continuing this sketch. It's nowhere where I want the resemblance to be, but that should come later. For now, I'm laying out the foundations of the pose and features. I rather like the bit of twist in his torso. Gonna see if I can emphasize that even more than it is seen in the photo reference of him.

For The Good of X2

Finally getting to draw more of Ben after he posed for me lo those many months ago. Had a clearer idea of what to do next (after all the photos, not to mention the live sketch) after l this time.

A Second' Season

My friend at Second/Layer have been making pans I covet, but have yet to score a pair. So I'll draw it.

Hair There 3

I needed to address those hands... I'm not drawing from any references, just out of my own head, and the occasional glance at my own digits.

Hair There 2

Continuing this sketch... I was inspired by the various evil, prepubescent villains in anime who are invariably white haired or blond 'geniuses' who are so ultra powerful and need to be defeated by the hero. But there seems to be a standard of a kid with long white /blond hair. Except for some reason I made him naked here.

Tracing Space

Trying to see if I can get to a place like my original reportage sketch style (a la Antonio, digitally) but with different techniques involving underpainting.

Second Show

I attended two shows today, one that I had to skip work for and another that was scheduled for after work. The second was the best collection I've seen to date by my friends at Second Layer.I'll draw them later in earnest but here's an impression.

China Marker

I had planned to go to a nude yoga drawing session with my coworker but I neglected to bring any art materials because I planned on bringing recycled materials from work. In preparation for the fact that I couldn't find anything other than a single China Marker, I did a quick sketch with it to see how it handled, and this will have to act as my drawing for the  day since the drawing session actually turned out to NOT be an event at all, and no one showed up except us! image to come as soon as Iget a pic of it at work tomorrow.

Rail

My make-up post from a few days ago got made over today. I realize that the face was much more interesting than the torso, and the torso didn't match the look of the face, so I scaled everything down. And I made hi rail thin, compared to the 80s muscle god I originally had in mind.

Hair There

I decided I've been way too distracted by design work that I need to press my drawings. But I got a bit of design work done today, so I think this sketch was a bit more, inspired, shall we say?

Defaulting (to a Republican??)

... well, defaulting to my soft watercolors as I am wont to do nowadays, I decided to try and draw something more unlike me. So, instead of a model, I present to you... a white, Republican male model. Or maybe he's a model who looks like some sort of handsome, milquetoast All American guy. Or at least the type that might pose in the Sale flyers for J.C.Penney or somesuch store like that...

Zenaida, Watercolored

I'm still experimenting with the watercolor brushes, and I'm continuing with my 'fields of color/background approach.'

Centered

I'm referring to the (retro) modern way to wear a woman's hair: center-parted.

Bleary Eyed and Designed Out

Been working my projects so much my drawing is suffering! But will try and correct that asap.

edit: Well, it's about 5 days later, and I seem to have gotten my wind back, even if I still have a ton of design work to attend to before I can concentrate on a drawing with any detail. But I do like the lips on this guy. At one point I thought he was looking like Brian Buzzini, then later he resembled myex when he was a young man. Now it's a guy with a small head and a looong torso.

Contraposto

I always like the S curve made by cocking one's head while craining one's neck, too.

Kinda Little Joe, 3

I adjusted it for Instagram, because it wasn't looking ready. I think now I made him too much of a pretty boy, but that's a valid choice too, I suppose.

All New Emma

Frank Quitely's Emma Frost costume for Morrison's New x-men run was fairly prescient, in that many of the details of her outfit could be found in modern day fashion, although I still take issue with the low pitch platform shoes (I posit that Emma would prefer the higher pitch of a heel).

Kinda Little Joe, 2

Refined, retooled and revised.

Kinda Little Joe

I was thinking Joe Dallessandro, a bit of Travis Fimmel and even Rick Owens when I center-parted his hair and made it long and straight. I do like how this invented face turned out. He could be someone real...
