Busted, Done

Not done very well, I'm afraid. Those chain links were the death of me. I didn't realize how complicated rendering those would be, and I didn't really have teh patience to do them properly, much less in the style I had established for the bust, which would have meant I would have needed to draw each link and shade it individually, and I just wasn't willing to do that for this collaboration. I hope I did enough.

Inky Zenaida

Well, she's usually inky, but this time I used a brush called "2 Smooth 2B Forgotten."

White Pants

Had an idea that I intend to flesh out more, but this was the initial pose. image to follow.

Ian McNude

This morning I attended a session at the LGBT Center and drew the handsome Ian. It took me several poses to get my groove.  But these are the best ones if the day.

Adventures In Conte Crayon

Well, digital ones at least. I'm gonna try my hand at natural media soon. I'm intrigued by the line and how my natural hand might react to it. or rather, how it will react to my natural hand.

Come Hither 2

The experimentation with the Conte crayon continues. Maybe I'll pick it up in natural media too... could be fun.

Come Hither

It's the eyes, I think. This face has that come-hither look of an 80s men's model. Which I like, although I don't know if it will just seem too dated.

Hair Blob

This drawing is something that popped into my head the other day. I think it was more realistic and rendered more interestingly in my mind (And less retro), so I'll call this a study if I attempt to do it better in another try. Still, these brushes were fun and great for future reference,

Rough Poses 4

Well, I call them rough because that's how they started, but I suppose I'm refining them so they're not that rough anymore...I do love how relaxed this pose looks, I just don't know if I got all the anatomy correct... in fact, I know I didn't somehow...

For The Good of X 8, Done

Ben there, done that. I think this is done... unless I decide to tweak it, but I'm hoping not! Hope he likes it. I'm bleary eyed from working on it too much tonight.

Wide Yellow

I spent the entire afternoon with my friend and model form the For The Good of X series that I had no energy to draw today... especially after doing cardio at home and then errands like grocery shopping and laundry. All I wanna do is sleep!

Naked Interlude

I'm still trying to loosen up my style even further as I tend to love a more controlled drawing, even if my style is basically looser.

For The Good of X 7

As I started painting the body, I realized I got some of my proportions wrong—that always happens when you're dealing with more volume and not just a line. Well, I guess I shouldn't say always, as it's my own inabilities as an artist to capture the image in perfect proportions. That's why I like digital work: I get to keep adjusting without overworking the substrate.

For The Good of X 6

Now I just need to finish up his bod. Image to come...

Rough Poses 3

I kept it on in my Photoshop space so naturally I saw it again today and decided it needed to be tinkered with and tweaked. And changed, and re-tweaked. I honestly don't know if it will be a drawing in and of itself or if just the roughs I intended to show teh model for the posing session.

Rough Poses 2

Trying to make it not so rough. I really like the gesture of the leaning pose, and wanted to see if I could flesh it out better without any references. It was okay, but I couldn't resolve the arm over his head...

For The Good of X 5

The better the painting looks, the more I want to work on it and the sooner it gets done (I hope). Detail of his improved face.

For The Good of X 4

This is coming along nicely... although I feel like he needs a compelling show of penis root to make it especially thirsty.

For The Good of X 3

It's been almost a year since I last touched Ben's drawings (it's been really busy too so I can justify it in my head) but suddenly getting teh urge to discard all my other projects (and they be legion!) and do him tonight.

Rough Poses

Arranging a model session with a guy I met online, so I made a few sample sketches of what poses I might ask him to get into. Sometimes I think I'll follow through on these sketchs wiht a model, but I wonder sometimes if the gesture I get from my imagination is better in a way for the flow of the form...

Old Dog, New Styling

I passed by a vendor on the way to the subway station today, and he was wearing 4 layers that I thought were so quirky that they would be great on a younger, fashion model: a turtleneck with a striped woven shirt over it, with a collared knit shirt over that, and a blazer. It's funny, on an older guy with humble pieces, it's quirky to the point of tacky. But transpose the exact same thing on a young model, and it's suddenly edgy and ironic.

Sketch Booked 3

I might make this a regular thing, although perhaps I should choose a different medium from ballpoint pens.

Big Silhouette

I was distracted all evening (all day, actually) and didn't get this sketch done in time to post. So this is for yesterday, because despite doing so many sketches on Sunday, I can't count them for today...

Sketch Booked 2

More sketches from my day in Hudson.

I tried sketching a house bu I really have no interest in it. Still, it adds some contrast and context to the other sketches...

Sketch Booked

I took a sketchbook up to Hudson and drew on the train.

Grayboy

This sketch started out as an idea (that I still have clearly in my head) that changed the minute I started drawing features on the skintone background. As always, I sketch each line as a reaction to the previously laid down line. If I trust my abilities, I usually work with what shows up that I like, as opposed to trying to shoehorn the original idea.

Darren

Back in the 90s, one of my first personal trainers was a man I later befriended. He also posed for me for a drawing I never got to finish. I had him in this rather awkward seated pose that I'm not quite sure how I got him to stay in it, but he did enough for me to get this drawing. It was during a phase when I wanted to do large sexy male angel paintings (it was such a thing in the 90s). Anyhow I dug it up to post for Darren as well as to do a throwback Thursday thing in Instagram, but I wondered about sketching in the missing wings that I never resolved...

Busted 10

Trying to cheat on properly rendering all those links just leads to a bad rendering, and the rest of the drawing shouldn't be tainted by my laziness, so...ugh... I did them more carefully (although not perfectly. I don't have the patience for it since its a freebie)

Busted 9

Ugh, drawing individual chain links!  Blerghk.
