Cyan + K 2

Inspired by the previous experiment, I tried to go back into the sketch before yesterday's, and apply some new thinking on these layered colors.

Cyan + K

So I decided to draw another figure in the cyan color but then I thought of switching it up with a black outline. Totally feels like a sketchy version of comic book illustrations from a while back, with the bluelines overlaid with more final rendering...

Cyan

I'm using a brush I'd been drawing with (bu can't recall its name right now), but changing up the color has been inspiring. I feel like the volumes are different, and it's quite encouraging.

Naked Naive

I'm inspired to do these really simple, naive illustrations in a larger scale, and wondering how naive to do them. I kept this 'raw' by doing it with a mouse.

Poodle Redux

My friend Ernesto asked me if I could try my hand at updating his poodle tattoo. Originally based on a hot pink stencil, it unfortunately didn't show up like the graphic he based it on, but because of the pink color it looks like a birthmark or something. So this is my attempt at updating it for him. With a cigar.

Nippon Style, Done

It's not my favorite, but it's a fairly accurate representation of the moment I was trying to capture. Although I'd have loved to draw them both from life!

Nippon Style

I was shopping at Moscot, perusing some frames I've been stalking, and two Japanese guys were browsing as well. Both were extremely well dressed in a very fashionably Japanese way, so I kept looking at them, studying their outfits. On my way out the one with the dreadlocks got into a pose to look at some of the goods on the lower shelves in the display case, and I thought it was a great pose to do. Rough sketch for now...

Sassy 5

I fixed her eyes and paws a bit, but of course you''ll not notice that with all the new signage going on, lol

Spread 'Em

I was going through some old magazines trying t figure out which ones to toss, and I came across a pose with a woman spread-eagled on her side lie this. It was a high fashion, sexually charged shoot, of course, so I thought I'd see if a guy laid out like that could work. Rough only so far, of course.

Oil Pastel 2, 3rd Time

Can't just get a glimmer of it from a sketch or two, so I tried working off a photo reference, which I wanted to try for the upshot features. Not the best drawing, by far, but hey, it's an entry for the blog...

Oil Pastel 2, Too

I'm investigating this tool some more. Small details take on bigger 'feeling' with this brush—or for that matter, any brush that isn't as precise as I'm used to. I find that some of my strokes translate into expressions that I didn't know my hand had—or at least, intended. The rest of the doodle is crap but that head turned out rather interestingly, methinks.

Oil Pastel 2

That's the name of the brush I decided to click on randomly and draw with. I'm surprised at how much I like it since I generally don't like oil pastels in real life, because they're too dirty to work with. Then again, because it's digital, maybe that's why I like it—it's cleaned up and just dirty enough to have a natural feeling. This was an exercise based on a "How To Draw Heads" tutorial I found online. One can always learn new techniques...

Sheena 4

It boggles my mind that I didn't render these eyes this way the first time!

Sassy 4

Well, now I'm not drawing from memory but going into her Instagram to drw actual details from her pics. Here's hoping her fans like this drawing enough to respond to merch with it on it!

Sassy 3

Impressions are no sub for reference pics sometimes when doing a caricature (or portrait!). So I'm still not sure if this is *her* but I'm refining this pooch until it seems right. As a portrati AND as a toon!

Sassy 2

Trying to see how stylized I can make this dog. I think I'm cleaning up her look but wondering if she needs to look a bit more insane (which is how I feel she looks on many of her Instagram pics. Look her up if you like).

Sassy

My friend Ernesto asked me to do a toon version of his dog, Sassy. This is the pre sketch.

Headtilt 2

I'm not sure what the final form or medium for this drawing will be, but I'm tinkering and improving and deciding as I go along...

Accidental Manbun

I wasn't necessarily planning on drawing a guy with a manbun, but I wanted messy, stringy hair and I ended up pulling it back into said manbun. Also trying out new brushes.

Forrest

I've decided that guys with big dicks (showers, not growers) are a bit too distracting to draw. That said, I drew the lovely Forrest today (well, Saturday, but I did so many drawings on Saturday that this will count for Sunday), and I wish I had drawn him better, but you do what you do when you do.

Vine Charcoal Sharper

Oohh, how did I overlook these charcoal brushes?? They remind me of my fellow artists in the nude drawing groups I attend, who were former fashion illustrators back in the 70s and 80s. This brush recalls those lines of theirs.

Vine Charcoal Detail

That's the name of the brush, and man does it look natural!  My style changed to suit the line, and it was sooo much fun! This was an exploratory use of the brush but I can't wait to see how I use this in the future.

Headtilt

I decided it was just the head this time. And then to make him naked, just because.

Tilt 2

I decided to post this drawing on Instagram, but I couldn't do so without first editing it to my liking. So many little details have changed, even if the overall look and pose have not. Still, I think it's much improved.

Working In Progress

It's always interesting for me to observe how my drawings evolve. I often start with a mindless doodle that can sometimes morph into something I love through sheer evolution of the lines on a page (or as more often happens, on a pixel). But sometimes I start with an idea of what I'm going to do, and if I don't do a rough overall (which can still morph) then details that I put down change my idea as they evolve, because I might prefer to develop what I created versus what I intended to create. This guy was supposed to be a boyish male model giving me an intense stare from a bit of a side eye, and it's kinda turning into a Matt Dillon-ish retro style character face. And as per usual, those words on the left are the brushes I used, lest I forget what they were (which is often),

Phil, Turkey Slapped 3

I still haven't reached that moment where I feel it looks like him. But hopefully in time.

Tweaky

This was a doodle that may or may not take on a life of its own later.

Spatter Princess

I don't think this Spatter Print brush was meant to be used this way, but I kinda liked the pointillism effect and how it brought a vague face to life.

Apollo's Girdle 2

Funny how I was so sure about that sketch that day, but a later review revealed flaws I just had to correct, even if it was a rough quickie.

Apollo's Girdle

It's the current erogenous zone du jour, and I can't stop looking at them. Also known as Apollo's Belt and the iliac furrow, it's only been recently that people have emphasized it beyond any historical reference I can think of. Some guys have them so large that they look like they have fat underneath their clothing. I love them because of the promise of what those furrows lead to, lol.

I'm currently fascinated by how the pelvic region is almost a separate segment in people who are super lean but very developed in their ab regions. Certain angles almost look like they can serve tea on their hip bones, as we once used to say about women who would pose this way (like the legendary Aly Dunne).

Tilt

I love how this pose is almost an old-school women's fashion pose, but with a body like Justin Halley's, it takes on a different feeling, especially with that pelvic tilt highlighted by the grooves of his pelvic girdle. What ARE those lines called?? Anyhow, I loved this pose from Out Magazine's new August issue so much that I didn't recycle the mag immediately and decided to sketch the pose (even if the face isn't Justin's at all). I still get this Out complimentary subscription even if I stopped subscribing years ago. Guess they need me to justify their circulation.
