Save The Date, Done!

Clients are happy, files are delivered, and I can only show a fraction of the full image just so they can get full first publication rights of the finished product!

Save The Date 11

I kept putting this commission off because it felt retrogressive to go back to an older version,  but that's what the client wanted. Still I had to clean it up and make it presentable, moreso than the rough draft it was meant to be. This is a detail of some of the cleanup—can't make it too clean since he wanted a more slapdash,"fashion style".

Coated 2

Yesterday's coat drawing didn't feel fresh enough to me, like I wanted i modern. So I thought, a hoodie perhaps? More contemporary for sure...

Coated

Decided that yesterday's chin drawing is now a coat pose. But not sure if this is the best way o show off a coat—just doing a big silhouette isn't compelling anymore. Although I do like the line quality!

Take It On The Chin 2

See, I don't actually plan a lot of what I draw. I basically start putting marks down and wait to see what emerges, and react to that. Now that I like this guy;s profil, I'm wondering how to finish him off. I reckon it will be a coat shot, but not sure how best to position the rest of him...

LuvGal 5

We went back to this other version of the proposed drawings, but I had to adjust her hands—I didn't really pay much attention to the original version so these were a bit wonky.

Take It On The Chin

Merry Christmas! Had an awful morning, hung over like the dickens, but this is a quickie anyhow. I am playing with a newly discovered old brush, the Badass Inker, which might be an older version of my fave Badass Ink Brush. And this one is all about an upview of a man, and how rendering his chin fits into all that.

Pants Off! 2

Just trying to refine the pose a bit—not too obvious from the previous version but it's part of my process to constantly redraw the pose until it both looks anatomically correct and expresses the image I had in my head.

Butt Boy, Revisited

My client commission alternate wasn't chosen, so I decided o try and retool him into an Instagram post. But I was a bit bored with the idea of just doing a male nude from behind (again!) so I threw a tank top on him. While it was better, it was still a bit rote, so I added pants, which I think helped make it a more interesting drawing for me.

Alex at Kung's

Spend the afternoon drawing new model Alex, who is very intensely handsome yet for some reason I found myself only objectively into him. Chemistry? Anyhow, images to come.

edit: Here they are:

Pants Off!

Lately all I seem to be focused on is men without pants! So this is the beginnings of a guy taking them off. I'm drawing without a reference so I might have to go back and look for one to get the action right.

Craned Neck 3

I seem to be all about the multiple model drawings lately. I tried to retool the  face on the guy on the left in this sketch (having hidden the original guy with the craned neck) because I wanted them to both look like older models, but I guess I still wanted to draft out and experiment with how I'd draw a more mature man's face. Not sure this is right, but it's a step. I went ahead and changed his outfit as well.

Doodles on a Trench

I tried to update another image I found in my archives, but it wasn't working out so I just tested some new brushes over it.

Cheekbone 2

I tried updating this old drawing but I'm not sure I like the new version. Ah well, an experiment.

Gaze 3

I was looking for a throwback illo I could repurpose for an IG post, and found this one that I couldn't figure out how to finalize before. I guess I like it this way now.

One Suit, Two Bodies 3

I'm still not happy with that face, but I like where the expression is headed. And yes, there's a penis.

One Suit, Two Bodies 2

Here's where I start to flesh out the face of the newcomer, but I'm having difficulty sculpting him into the type of model visage I'm thinking of. I want modern day male model, I seem to be getting Linda Evangelista. And that nose is ALL WRONG.

One Suit, Two Bodies

My Shirtless Palazzo drawing of a couple of weeks back is the basis of a new tableau I hope to actually finish. So I needed to add another guy at least and establish how they interact. I kind like where this is going. I wonder if I should just leave hem at line work so that it's done and not waiting to be finished later??

Disembodied Face 2 (4600!)

Not too ken on his lips yet, but the face is evolving (as is my ability to conceive faces!).

Also, congrats to me, this is (at least to my numbering system) my 4600th post!

Disembodied Face

I was walking down the street and imagined a watercolor drawing of a face without a body, and it's clear as day in my imagination, so I thought I'd put it down. This is the first attempt.

Craned Neck 2

I was examining the stance of the neck in this drawing, as it represents a more modern pose of late since people actually have bad posture. But the man on the right ended up looking more mature, and I liked that, so I toyed with teh idea of adding some younger models for contrast. But I then decided, what if I keep them all older looking? We don't draw older men much anymore, and that might be a fun angle. Now if I can only decide on what they're wearing...

Inktober 3, Black Queen Revisited

I got this sketch ready for printing as I pan on giving it as a gift to my comic book guys at the comics store. Not much of a change but I just cleaned up some of my brush strokes and adjusted some assymetry in her face. I cant believe how much I rendered in this drawing. It's a lot!

Inkface Conte2

Playing with my the Conte 2 brush after I rediscovered it. It played a strong part in a successful illustration I made a few months back, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how I achieved the effects until I started playing with the brush settings on the Conte 2 brush. This drawing, however, is errible.

My First Coat Purchase, 4

I better abandon this idea. It seems I'm getting nowhere with improving this drawing, no matter how many subtle changes I make. Maybe I should make sweeping ones?

Queenly, 3

I decided to post this drawing as a Flashback but did some improvements on her lips and eyes, enough to warrant it being a different version. But this is a newer version still, as afer I Instagrammed her, I did even MORE changes!

My First Coat Purchase, 3

I widened the shoulders even more, but still not pleased with the finish.

My First Coat Purchase, 2

Still trying to get that silhouette right. Ugh.

My First Coat Purchase

When I first moved to the US, I was obsessed with the deep gorge, long coats that teh Wall Street guys wore, because I loved the open fronts the gorges made—it showed off their suits and it was a fresh silhoette. So when I finally saved enough for a new coat, I bought one. Now, I wish I had kept it because its back in again, and it would have been cool to wear it again. Since I don't have it anymore, I thought maybe I could just draw it, but I'm not able to really get the wide shoulders right in this sketch...

Pantsless Is Always Fun 3

I decided I preferred him looking at his balls. I got my friend Ernesto to pose and give me a bit more anatomical accuracy.

Pantsless Is Always Fun 2

I drew this sketch more carefully, and while the draftsmanship is there, I'm wondering if I liked the energy and immediacy of the original better? I like his wry smile though—the kid's up to no good (if we're lucky!)

Pink Socks

ALSO PANTSLESS. That might have to be my new motto, #pantsless is always fun. Although this is just a base sketch, I think it requires much tweaking.
