Stached Shock

You know when you start with an image in your head and draw to get to that image, and then you end up with something else entirely? This.

Sneer 16

On a bit of a roll now. Fixed the chin and cheeks and retooled his teeth, but thinking I need to get back to those again later. I almost like the mistaken version of a few days before than this one, which is more correct but still feels off. Also tried to do a Flemish painting technique on the body but don't actually know how to do it, so I'm guessing, lol.

Sneer 15

I was going to post it immediately to Instagram as a WIP but decided to let it sit and simmer a bit. I'm glad I did because a few hours away and I found so many things needed retooling. What is it about  leaving things alone for a while that allows you to see what's wrong with it? Of course, leaving them for a longer time could also make you see what's right about what you did without jumping to conclusions. I retooled his eyes and mouth quite a bit. Little things that make a big diff in my eyes.

Sneer 14

I had a bit of an epiphany when I changed brushes on this piece, and it started to gel. For the first ime in a while it felt like I was just painting and not trying to figure out HOW to paint it. So naturally I kinda just redid the face over and over.

Fitness Pose

I started out with the doodle of the full model's head, and that kind of determined the rest of the body's pose. I decided to do boxer briefs because his haircut, which I loved rendering, is so clean cut. And then I doodled more stuff like the big face in the background.

Facial Reconstruction

I find myself staring at people's faces to try and understand how they're constructed, both in pics as well as in real life, trying to memorize how things resolve in one part or another in different faces, and then trying to find the ones I think are most attractive.

Phil, Turkey Slapped 4

I think this one is done now. Finally.

Erotic Poses

I had a funny experience on Instagram yesterday: some guy DMed me expressing appreciation for my work, and quickly segued into asking if I would draw him. Perusing his feed, he looked pretty straight, and had a 4 year girlfriend featuring prominently in his feed, but I smelled something fishy. Since he didn't have any body shots to show, I asked him to send me a pic of his body so I could consider whether or not I would draw him, and he sends me an erect dick pic. When I ask him why he sent that, he replies, I love my dick. Now I know he's more bi-curious than anything, and I humor him with the conversation to see where it would go. The ensuing conversation revolves around exhibitionism and playing mostly to men at the gym. True enough, he's turned on by men in some way, but refuses to admit it. I keep talking as if I would actually draw him, but I'm more just curious exactly what he intends from contacting me. At some point I say I have to figure out an angle and the convo stops. I thought it would continue again with me suggesting possible poses (which I sketched here, focusing on his love of his dick and his need not to show his face) but he never answered. Back to his closet? Who knows. Also, don't really care enough beyond what's transpired.

Black Ink Man

Playing with the inks again, but this time inspired by a photo where I saw something completely different from the actual image (mostly because I just glanced it it quickly). I love these imaginary images because they're inspired by existing imagery but actually more mine in a case of mistaken perception.

Disheveled Inkman

I like the looseness of ink lines and sometimes that translates to a loose-looking subject as well. I like how unconventionally attractive he is, but I suspect I might be the minority in this one.

Backside 2: Superman

I decided the body and hair reminded me of Superman, so I figured I'd do him as such. Hell, I want to look at the other side now!

70s Silhouette

I got excited by Claire Waight Keller's new menswear presentation because it looks like a fresh approach after all the oversized stuff I'd been into, but it's also familiar since I went through a skinny, bellbottom 70s tailoring phase in the early aughts. I wish I kept all my J.Lindeberg pants from then!

What is this exercise called?

I keep thinking to ask people when they do it. Overhead rows?

Skin Test

I found an old Antonio Lopez watercolor and realized that the skin tone he used wasn't like the orange wash I'd been accustomed to doing, based on his work (and TBH, my cheap watercolor choices). So I tried a softer wash in the same color of the sketch, but am wondering if I'm setting it down right?

Seventies Redux

I've been growing my hair into a late 60s/early 70s rocker shag a la Peter Weller (look him up) and the shows are still featuring these haircuts. So I wanted to sketch it out for a fashion sketch I want to do, but I got lost in rendering the head...

Vanvan Naked

We'd been planning this drawing session for ever, and it finally happened. But I still have to get more comfortable with drawing people in my home—I definitely spend too much time chatting with them when I'd rather drawing silence, and it does affect the drawings...

Backside

I've been trying to finesse this sketch but since I'm not using a reference, I'm having a hard time angling the perspective. Its fine now as a n almost head-on view, but I had wanted it a bit foreshortened from above. Ah well...

Red Speedo

I was tired of all the low-liked drawings I was posting on IG so I thought I'd construct something designed to attract the thirsting hordes. Well, this one did okay, but not too well. It's gotten over 200 likes at this point, but >that should be about my average now but I can never tell with IG. I'm just not playing that game well.

Upshot

I'm not entirely certain since I didn't draw form a reference, but I think there might be some inaccuracies in the anatomy. Anyone want o pose naked for me so I can confirm the pose? lol

Legionish

I started out drawing a fashion sketch at an angle, but then I got it in my head that the angle wasn't sharp enough,a nd what would it look like if I added more figures to the layout? So then it became—in my mind—a comic book sketch idea, and possible a story about super heroes, then it became, what if this was the Legion of Super Heroes. And also, waaay more backstory for a sketch  than it needs, lol

Catwalks 3

I wasn't very happy with how I rendered the walker. It's just too full done. I might go back in and redo it entirely but I thought maybe fixing his face would make me feel better about it. It's a bit better, but I'm not thrilled. It looks like old, clumsy work of mine where I paint too much.

Catwalks 2

I finalized one of them but I'm not oo keen on the finish—it's too done. I might want to redo the colors in a less full-on way.

Random Face 3

Tinker tinker away. Just refining the kid, hoping he achieves heart throb status lol

Yogabod

I got to drew a yoga instructor who has quite the tight body, and being very tall, really long lean proportions.

Random Face 2

I thought the last version looked too loose and generic. This one is kind of all American, but with Timothy Chalamet hair (or at least what I think it looks like—I didn't have a photo when I drew this).

Random Face

Just a quick doodle of someone boyish.

Catwalks

My friend Mel Odom posted on Facebook that his work was on the runways of Qasimi in the London menswear shows, which I hadn't realized were on. I'm really out of it. Anyhow, thought I'd do some sketches based on fave looks, but since I haven't reviewed everything yet, I figured I'd do some croquis and fill in the clothing later.

Bigfoots 2

Ugh, I couldn't leave well enough alone and I had to draw the entire figure that the crop represented. It started out with me just trying to figure out why the legs would be posed the way they were, by drawing the full legs, then the ass, then the torso, and pretty soon, I had to draw the whole guy. And now I'll be wanting to figure out the best pose for this whole figure, lol. His head and arms might still change. And for that matter, the whole outfit...

Edit: Yup, added more variations:

Bigfoots

I have been avoiding the ugly sneaker trend for a while, mostly because I don't like how the shoes look on me, or for that matter, on most people. And they've been getting bigger and more clunky, and its a weird channeling of the big monster shoes of the 90s, but it was never this designer-y nor prevalent as it was back then. So when I finally bought a pair I could wear (Raf Osweegos) I could finally get into the trend a bit more, from experience.

This was an image I had for a while now, just focusing on the ugly sneakers, some variation thereof that I will just make up myself.

Phoney

Drawing people sitting down, leaning against walls, or whatever pose while looking into heir phones is relevant now, so here's one that popped into my head.

Polo Shirt

Happy New Year! I couldn't decide what to make as my first drawing of the year, so whatever came out came out as a result of doodling with this gouache brush. I had actually drawn more parts of this image's body but erased it in favor of a more minimalist look.
