Spread Out

I just wanted a pose that was front and center on a guys legs, spread out. But I wonder if it's too in-your-face for me?

Wade in His Waders, Done

I finalized enough to consider him done enough for Instagram.

Twinky

I was playing again with the Ruffin brush and when this nose emerged, I decided to make this face a twinky kind of college age guy, who in some respects reminds me of the actor Neil Patrick Harris. Thought he should be part of my Nekkid as a series.

Rage-y Stretch 2

Guess I couldn't help myself. This reminds me of when I would sketch something on the calendar next to the telephone back at home when I was a kid, and then I would go over old doodles and just shade and define them ad infinitum. Need to figure out his hand situation though.

Father John

I started a sketch of my friend's husband John over a year ago, and realized after the fact that I didn't like it and wouldn't continue with it. So at the back of my mind I was always going to do a completely new one, and this is the start of it, based on a screen grab I took of a fame from a movie during his birthday last year. Ruffin brush still. Not sure I like it with the subtler lines, or at least, with my style basing it on a photo.

After David

I didn't want to continue drawing that previous sketch and tried making a new face, who looked like he was posed in a similar fashion to Michelangelo's David. I did a version with the same arm positions but like this 70s/80s underwear ad pose better. Still with the Ruffin brush

Rage-y Stretch

This stretch-y pose courtesy of memories of old drawings I never finished, from back in the early 90s. I rather like the raw marks and wonder if I should leave well enough alone?

Nekkid 2

Well, not fully. He looks like he's found a clue about his missing pants! I got my friend Ernesto to do a quick pose session for his butt, but I'm afraid I'm still not skilled enough to know how to shade with this brush properly. Still, it's a good enough drawing for an Instagram post.

Nekkid

Still playing with the Ruffin brush, which has been yielding—to my mind—interesting marks, like the images are based off of real people and references. I drew a face and it determined the rest of the pose. In this case, of someone looking over his shoulder, and I put in the hoodie because he looked rather young, and a whole Naked kid narrative fell into place. Although he looks like he's about to keel over forward. I like the pose, which was sketched without any references, so I'll have to refine it to make it more anatomically correct.

Wade In His Waders

I looked at a pic of model Matthew Bell in his Instagram post with what I can only imagine is bed hair, and it made me want to do an Egon Schiele stile renditions of it, mostly because the nuances of the marks in this Ruffin Brush is definitely reminding me of that daub-y style. Still figuring out how to work it but this flows right into my current obsession with 50s/60s illustration styles. Anyhow the face that ensued looked like he should be named Wade, then I gave him some waders to wear.

Facing

What started out as another attempt to draw what I imagine could be on Umit's wall, turned into a lovely profile of a model who reminds me of actress Laetitia Wright.

Pivot, Done

I changed his nose and that changed up everything. But now he looks younger and more contemporary while also retaining some of that vintage glamour I wanted to infuse it with (it might be the come hither look)

Pivot 3

As I work on a face, more and more things will change, necessitating other parts of the sketch adjust as well. This guy keeps evolving, but while I like it as is, theres something bothering me about his face, that doesn't look quite right, or real. IN this case I think he's really handsome but he looks a bit 80s to me.

Unit's Art

I sometimes look at photos and mistake a glance of something for something else. IN the case of a recent photo I saw, I saw a part of a painting on the wall of designer Umit Benan's space that I thought could be something else. This drawing was the beginning of trying to suss out what that something could be, but it transformed into another thing altogether.

Pivot 2

I liked the drawing yesterday and wanted to refine it further.

Pivot

I'm still trying to find my best expression of this Ruffin brush, so I had an idea to do another portrait. This one I tried to do a bit of a side eye with a neck pivot.

Alienated

This pandemic has been rough emotionally on so many levels, and some days just get to you for reasons you can never see coming. I've lost so much weight because of my OCD fears that have interrupted both my eating and work out habits, that I don't recognize my own body. I must have lost about 20 pounds, maybe more? At first I was thrilled with my newfound visible abs but the rest of me is looking like Christian Bale in The Machinist, or even one of Guillermo del,Toro's Pan's Labyrinth  monsters. Coupled with the political squabbling and overall sense of dread both from politics and covid, sometimes, you just feel naked and vulnerable.

Naturally I draw a guy hotter than me naked, so we can still lust after his sad self a bit.

Out-of-the-blue Boys 2

An alternate, more monochromatic version of the first sketch from yesterday.

Out-of-the-blue Boys

I was sketching and these two drawings emerged spontaneously, out-of-the-blue, and I'm quite pleased with them. Part of my explorations of this Ruffian brush, as well as looser renderings.

Ernie 2020, reDone

So it wasn't actually done done. As I got it ready to post on Instagram, I decided I needed to fix the overly long neck as well as retool the details on his face. Glad I did. It's not perfect, but it's better now.

Ernie 2020, Done

I added some shading marks, plus I edited his head and neck down a bit.

Ernie 2020, 2

I decided he needed to be in shorter shorts, the better to show off his legs. Also refined the musculature and added highlights, which I seldom ever do because I've seen too many cheesy highlight technique...

Ernie 2020

I asked my friend Ernesto to pose for me during one of our vidchats and I decided to draw it today. I rather like the chunkiness of the line. This is using a new Charcoal brush I discovered (even if it's been there forever in my Photoshop stash). It was originally a nude reference but I know Ernesto doesn't like hisdick posted online so I faked some long shorts on it. It looks a bit fake to me, so I will restyle.

Magnus

I was just sketching  face and I thought he looked like the comic book version of Magneto, whose original name was Magnus.

House This For A Gift? Done

I bit the bullet and just finalized this commission for my friends. It's not my thing to ever do architecture and buildings, but I can do them (albeit not well, nor easily). Ah well, I hope they like it.

Taint Necessarily So 3

I like his face now, but not sure about the finishes and the background

Red Robe

More of this Ruffin brush, and another nekkid guy in red versus the other day's blues.

Blue Ladies in Ruffin

Still playing around with this Ruffin brush and liking the rawness of its strokes. Just playing.

Taint Necessarily So 2

Still working this one out, especially his face. There's something a bit Rufus Sewell, a bit Justice Joslin that I want to convey but it's not getting there since I'm not using a reference at all for his face.

Taint Necessarily So

I saw a pose in a video where they shot a guy sitting on a chair, but they only showed the shot from below the chest. So I liked the angle with the idea that it might be interesting to see the same pose, but sans clothing. So I basically imagined the rest of the guy, which is a fun exercise.
