Ruffles A Go Go

Found out SO LATE how to organize my brushes according to Favorites in Photoshop, and rediscovered the Gouache A GoGo brush, which I started playing with and this was a sample doodle.

Pants Folds

Whenever I shop online (which I've been doing a lot of lately, since it was Black Friday weekend, a typical time for lots of sales), I shop both for stuff to buy, but also for images to draw. I can't get enough references for how various items of clothing drape and fold.

Teoh 2

My process is to create a portrait based on the original photos, then to stylize it a bit and simplify the lines once I'm satisfied I've gotten a likenesss, which I haven't yet...

Teoh

Been working on and off on my new client's commission, and finally got a sense of how I want to render it based on his requests. This is the base sketch of perhaps the most pivotal of the 4 I'm doing.

Ancient Robes 2

Tweaking the face a bit from the other day.

Rocker Type 3

Minor but to me, pivotal—adjustments to his nose and chin, as well as refinements to the ear , earring and hair. It's about the details right now, hopefully before I pout it up on Instagram soon.

Ancient Robes

I was looking at a lot of 'gothic' styled work online, and inspired me to make something that felt like it might be part of some classic book of poetry.

Stamp of Approval

I added an illustrated stamp to the postcard layout for my friend Greg's Hudson commission. And it's Greg himself, who is sometimes mistaken for a woman.

Pantsless Pedestrian, Done

I got my friend Ernesto to pose for me so I could get the lighting and musculature correct and I think it worked out.

Pantsless Pedestrian 3

Painting in the hoodie, but also thinking of how to do the anatomy. Got a friend to ppose for me on video so will refer to that.

Pantsless Pedestrian 2

Yesterday's rough sketch demanded a bit more detail to, uh, flesh it out.

Pantsless Pedestrian

I was looking out my kitchen window at the Avenue below and noticed a guy walk past wearing an olive hooded jacket. I thought he'd be uninteresting to draw as is, but without pants? Perfect.

Hudson Highlights, Done

I finally finished it today and got the approval of my friend/client Greg. I'm quite happy with it, I didn't have to devise a new drawing style, I realized I just sketched away so it's actually my style, although I did develop a slightly newer version of drawing animals. Anyhow, it's off to the printers now!

Crouch and Reach

I was watching dance videos I think, and imagining awkward body poses and gestures, so I tried to bring that to the canvas. There's actually a lot more drawn outside of the crop, as I had to flesh out the entire pose just to make sure it sat right. I even got in front of the mirror naked to try and suss out the proper movement and anatomy. Now I need to draw a falcon.

Hairy Hat Man 2

I love the base inks of this sketch but have been debating how to finish it and decide whether or not it's part of a larger series that I can then turn into an editorial story. The hairy hat is an Acne Studios hat so I wanted to find actual items of clothing on sale now for FW 20, to make up the rest of the outfit. When I first drew it I thought he might be wearing a mock neck and a straight collar coat, but I have since altered tyhe sketch to reflect that the shirt is now a turtleneck by Haider Ackerman and he's wearing a blue bonded leather jacket by Dunhill over it all.

Hairy Hat Man

I was inspired by a pose I saw on Zara again, but this time instead of channeling the outfit like yesterday's psot, I went for the pose. I didn't copy it directly, but I did study it then draw it without looking, then I added the hat, which is an Acne Studios hat from this season. I think it turned out well.

Zara Gender Swap 2

I fleshed him out a bit more, but he's looking like a model from the aughts, so I need to figure out how to young-him-up a bit. And also slim down those legs a bit—they're massive!

Zara Gender Swap

I saw an outfit on a model in Zara's women's collections, that I wanted for myself.I thought it might be cool to gender swap it and it becomes an edgier look for a guy.

Facing 3

I decided to give her some scene-mates.

Facing 2

I  wasn't happy with the hairstyle I created for this lady, so I asked my friends what was au courant right now for black models, which lately is a short cropped afro, which I already knew but wasn't sure I wanted to draw since I wanted something more extravagant. But then I decided to do shoulder duster earrings, so the hair could be simpler. Now I think her body looks too bog for a fashion sketch.

After David 2

I wanted something to publish on Instagram especially since I haven't felt any of my recent pieces were finished enough, whereas this guy just needed a few tweaks to feel more 'right', More of a throwaway though.

One Liner

I wanted to draw something with justs one continuous line, never lifting my stylus from the tablet.

Hudson Highlights 8

I love that tiny little car and its tiny little dog with its ears flapping in the wind!

Hudson Highlights 7

If this drawing is going to succeed, it'll be because of all the little details, so I'm trying to be careful to be true to the spirit of the town.

Hudson Highlights 6

I got a LOT of images done on this collage, and I also got the approval of my client/friend. So this is on to the fun part of filling it in...

Hudson Highlights 5

This is one of the buildings I did for the design.

Hudson Highlights 4

I decided to draw two friends of ours who live in Hudson. And I finally developed the style I needed to imagine this tee shirt design.

Vote Boy, Done (Vote 2020)

I wanted to post this by election day and it isn't finished to perfection, but done is better than perfect. The "Vote" typography was designed by a fellow artist, Michael H.

White Shirt On Pink

I love a white shirt on a naked man. I draw it a lot, but this one became a last minute white shirt when I wanted to use the face I sketched out impromptu.

Jump Shot

I saw a pose in an online story, and while it wasn't exactly this pose (and fully clothed), it inspired me to do this pose which I've actually thought of and seen before, but have never drawn. And now I'm wondering how I might finish it.
