3500! (Also, Spring Layer 11)

According to my numbering system, this is my 3500th entry on this blog. That's a lot of posts, and not even he full number of drawings (as I sometimes have multiple drawings per post). Yay me!

Also, I realized that I had changed the position of the model, and despite what I might have thought earlier, no wonder it didn't feel right— the placement of weight is all wrong. So I corrected it, and hopefully, later on, will be able to render this to my liking. So far, it's an improvement.

Spring Layer 11

CRAP!  I missed my deadline again!  I keep getting distracted by designing. I can't use my brain for two different artistic disciplines— it's the same muscle and I shunt energy for one art form to the other. Ah well.

I kno why this drawing is taking so long— it's a crap figure to draw. Between the hair and the shapelessness of the oversized togs, it just doesn't look like much despite the care I might put into the rendering. So I kinda need to find a way to find a good shape in all that volume... And it's not even super oversized, but it's just that it's juuust shapeless enough to look... shapeless. I kinda chose the wrong outfit to photograph to draw.

Spring Layer 10

Annoyingly, this did not publish even if I had it before the day was done. Arrgh.

Anyhow, revisited this drawing this morning. It's interesting how time gives you a fresh perspective on things. I was able to let go of the work I had done on this previously and know what needed to get done regardless of what needed to be changed. it helped make it better (although still not done). Image to come

Young Blue 2

... and pink! Changed his eye too. He looks like I've been channeling Egon Schiele.

Young Blue

The color as already loaded in Photoshop because it was something I was designing with, and the brush was a holdover from yesterday. But the combo made me draw slightly differently, and as rough as this is, I rather like it.

Current Mood 11.13.16, part 5

The ruling on transgender rights today made this apropos to work on today. Sadly.

Current Mood 11.10.16 part 4

I'm not as despondent as I was when i started this series but it's certainly not changed in tone much.

Because of the color I used to paint, not the subject, who is black. I was inspired by the divas of color who reigned on the runways back when I was growing up: Pat Cleveland, Mounia, Anna Bayle, et al... and wanted to draw a model in that vein. I miss those days when they were such mysterious creatures of unknown beauty. Nowadays, you know exactly what they had for lunch on their Insta accounts.

Right now it's two episodes of this X-men character come to the small screen, and it's nothing like the Legion I grew up (pictured here) with but it's damn intriguing television.

Current Mood 11.11.16 part 9

I'm still retooling this! I was never satisfied with the hand, and up close the technique is really raw and unrefined. But for web purposes, it looks okay.

Tub Time, Done

So the Tub Time series of drawings was for a commission for Pitbull's single, Options, which was released today. I wish I had done a better job with some aspects of the piece, but given the time constraints, I think I did okay. It's not perfect, but done is better than perfect. :)

Breasts That Kill

And judging by the telltale wisps of smoke, they just did.

Stick Figure

Because my thumb hurts from drawing too much over the past couple of weeks!

Line Works

Too tired to draw, so I doodled.

Valentine's Day 2017

I finished my music single cover after a frenetic week of working on it, and now will go through the process of unwinding from that intense experience. I drew a face last night but kept falling asleep in the process. So this morning, I thought to finish it but also realized I owed a model in Australia some sketches of pose suggestions for an upcoming collab. So voila.

Tub Time 13

Ugh, so many details I wish I had done differently, and so much wrong with this piece, I hope after some time I can see what's right about it.

Tub Time 12

Well, it seems Ive been working on this for almost two weeks— fancy that! And here I thought it was only a week. Well, tomorrow is the deadline, so it should be the last (or penultimate) post about it for now. I hope.

Tub Time 11

And I gave he other one a Raquel Welch makeover. Well, in my mind that's who I'm aiming for— vintage, dusky late 60s , early 70s Raquel.

Tub Time 10

Adjustments to the drawing at the last minute, so while I thought I had time with my extension, now I have to cram in a new pose!  Ugh, Murphy's Law... Anyhow, this is the new gal.

Tub Time 9

I am laying down underpaintings to get the tones down, but needing good references to render these properly. I can fake it, but not next to a portrait I'm doing in as much detail and as close a likeness as possible. So it feels like I'm googling as much as I'm painting!

Tub Time 7

I'm awash in bikinis. But I really did like the way I painted these breasts.

Tub Time 6

I spent so much time before going into work, fixing this face as she was pretty enough last night. Well, today I get told I might have to change her completely. Arrrgghh.

Tub Time 5

I'm happily finding out that I can do the job I believed I could do, but I'm happy to see it coming together nevertheless. A sneak preview.

Tub Time 4

And now we begin in earnest. Here's hoping my technique matches the reference!

Still Swagger 2

More poses to send to faraway models to be photographers by unknown photographers, who will then send me the pics to draw new illustrations from.

Still Swagger

I like a pose to be simple, but to have a lot of attitude and expression. "Still Swagger" indeed. But I wonder if that's evident to the viewer or just to me, because it suggests it to me as I draw it.

Tub Time 3

Sure enough, not only was I up late last night (unti 3:30 am) drawing variations of the layout for this job, but I also woke up and went to work some more on it since 7:30 am, up to the point of my going to work. This is one of the girls who will not be making it to the layout. It's just as well, since I got her pose from a popular apparel line's photo.

Tub Time 2

This series/new commission is likely to take over my blog posts for the next week at least. This was a pretty face I did for my rough layout. Too bad they don't plan on using her.
