I wanted to demonstrate to my class how to apply patterns to a sketch in Photoshop, and this was a quickie I drew up just to throw stuff on. But I feel a bit sheepish about her since she feels a bit dated, no?

While taking the train up to meet some friends at the museums, I decided to sketch on my iPhone. I pulled out this drawing from a few days back and decided to try and improve and continue it, but I'm not sure that's what actually happened (the improvement, I mean haha)

Procreate New Brushes Test

I don't normally draw in Procreate. I can, but I don't like to since I am so used to a desktop and my Wacom tablet. But I do want to keep abreast of it and since today they released the latest version of Procreate with Kyle Webster's newest brushes, I'm attempting to test them out. This sketch is a test (and those names are some of the brushes I used).

I decided I needed to close his mouth, that open mouth face wasn't working for me. I also shortened the length between his nose and his lip, as well as made his penis tilt lower and heavier, haha. I'm also figuring out his abs, maybe he can be smoother overall, but that could still change..

Refining it more, but I'm not sure I like his profile. I originally thought, oh, I like that he's not perfectly my type of guy, that makes him more real (I had a kid that I saw in the gym in mind when I did his profile). But I just didn't like the face, he wasn't someone I wanted to see nekkid lol

I have been taking a break on Instagram for the past few weeks, I just didn't have the wherewithal to publish something, as I wasn't really into drawing. Between my big birthday this month and all sorts of political chaos, I've been distracted. But I thought, maybe a side view nude will be an easy enough return to IG, especially if I plan it for a little later, when I hit the 1 month mark on my absence from the platform.

I couldn't stand the face of the guy so i changed it, but he's not really that much better. Too quirky, like some background character in some crime mafia movie lol

Sample Croquis 2025

I needed to draw an updated croquis figure for my students to use as an example for my pattern insertion demo on video. I rather like the original sketch although I don't love the color job I did, but it's fine, I can improve it all later. The students don't need to see something perfect.

I got the idea to do some sketches where I would selectively color and detail only some body parts, but I think I need to edit the form better than this.

In search of older drawings to finish and possibly upload to Instagram, I rediscovered this old one from 2018 and wondered if he's worth finalizing. The jury's still out—not sure if I like his face.

I tried a straighter leg, like the photo on COS that I originally was inspired by, and it's s ubtle diff of where the weight lands, which I love rendering.

Guelph Guy

I got an old sketch of mine on my mind when I drew this with the Guelph brush, because it reminds me of an older sketch I did with a similar look. Gah, that makes me feel bad, like I'm so limited to my own set of recycled ideas.

I love doing profile walk poses. There's something about getting the right attitude as well as the correct anatomy that I love as a challenge.

New Pantaloons

I was looking at a new (to me) menswear brand online and their wideleg pants were touted as pantaloons. Now, I don't think that's accurate, but young people today can repurpose old terms as they see fit anyhow (well, within reason). This was me sketching out some of their offerings but never really finishing it,

I was never satisfied with teh shading I did because it was just really quick without any real thought to draping. I thought it faked it well enough, but I thought I'd redo it all with a bit more conscious placement of light, shadow and color.

Porn Upshot

So, I was watching some porn and one of the actors looked upward at a key moment, and I rather liked his face from that angle, so I took a screen grab, studied it, and then tried to redraw it from memory. If memory serves, the guy was handsomer than my drawing...

This is another old sketch on my Ipad (done in Procreate) that I never resolved, but I redid the face a bit tonight and added more skin tone.

I redid her pants and a bit of her face. My friend Renaldo, who is also a fashion illustrator, complimented me, saying, "That face is just sitting!" I assume that's good haha.

This is a sketch I did in my Ipad but never posted, so here she is with a bit of detail added. I brought my iPad to Yardley, PA where I was visiting my friend Lamont and staying at his house. We really didn't have much chance to draw because we were hanging out so much, but I did get a bit here and there on these old sketches.

This came together very quickly after the gym. I decided I need to publish a new sketch and the easiest way to make one was to go into my photo archives and just render one. And this shot of Ernesto turned out better than I anticipated!

I thought to myself, can I do teh provocative female drawings I used to do as a child, but with my current sensibilities and skills? I don't like my women's faces, they haven't progressed as much as my men have, so I like the layout but need to clean up the details. Esp those hands, which I just did as for positioning only...

I like how sketch developed but I'm not sure I want this to remain this way. It feels...like it doesn't have any real direction, but maybe I can add something to it later.

Double Edge Brush Nude 3

I'm letting go more and just experimenting, and I think it's working better. Still not there yet but now he looks younger and more current (I made his nose bigger—strange how that helps define model faces today, versus the long, sharper noses of the 80s that I grew up with).

Ipad Gal in Ruffle Top

Many of these drawings are from earlier days, because I tend to draw and sketch a lot without publishing. I have been up in Hudson these past couple of days, so while I brought my iPad, I didn't really sketch anything because I was hanging out with my friends. But this is a sketch I've been working on for the past couple of days, and while I didn't touch her on my upstate trip, I'm counting her as a 'created ahead of time' drawing worth posting. 

She's not done, though. I'm hating the pose. That left arm might need to be adjusted.

Other Boy 3

It's almost nostalgic having to use the Badass Ink Brush again, to match the line quality of this drawing I originally started in the beginning of 2020. It makes me sketch in a way that maybe I no longer want to sketch. This is me adjusting the facial features, although I feel like I'm eliminating everything that makes the face feel interesting (even if it's all imagined and therefore should be mutable).

While looking for an older image I wanted to reference, I stumbled upon this old, unfinished duo. I kept and resolved the clothed guy pon the left, but the nude guy had potential Although his face ooks more classic than current, I want to find a way to finalize this and him.

I have this idea to do a thick, luscious dark application of this brush on his face, while leaving the rest a solid color. But it's not coming together for this face, I seem to be locked into Kleckner's facial proportions (even as I work to move it away) which isn't unattractive, but I feel like I need a more modern face.

This Double Edge brush has a very airbrushed feeling to its top end, and I'm inspired to go old school deco poster on it, but have yet to find my way.  Here it's just applied more like a thick, lifeless line with a neither here nor there quality. But I do want to do a sharp graphic treatment... and he's reminding me of Mark Kleckner's pose in his Playgirl cover, although I haven't thought of that in ages!

I was supposed to meet Ray and give him the final reveal, but as usual, our schedules kept getting us further and further delayed. So it gave me time to rework his hairline, which I realized needed reworking.But now I fear it's overworked...

More Ruffle Top

This time experimenting with the Double Edge Brush to see if that can be interesting. It looks great as a wide, charcoal swath in the skirt, like it was blended in with both marker and a wet brush. I'm imagining Mia Carpenter vibes, just in teh application. But the rest of it is definitely NOT Mia-ish!

I was experimenting with this previously never-used brush, and I liked its solid coverage. I thought it would lend itself to a more marker-like solid line, so I experimented with it with this face.

Fashion Figures

Have any of you used The Internet Archive? It's a great place for finding old books, among other things, scanned in and made available for perpetuity. I decided to research fashion illustrators, and ended up discovering some old fashion illustration books I would never buy, but always wanted to look into. As a result, I was inspired to do some croquises.

Got into a bit of a design groove trying to imagine how this top is constructed, as I have a specific idea of how it should lay on the bodice to cover the wearer's bust, but I can't see it specifically as a pattern just yet.
