I never draw a face after I've fleshed out a part - I usually can't get the proportions right. This was an experiment in trying, because as I drew in the rest of the features, I realized the eye was kind of unrealistically proportioned. Still, I tried my level best.

I think eyes always seem odd until you have the rest of the face to go with them. The eyes put everything on the face into context. That look of desire in the eyes can soften the face, or hatred can suddenly harden the rest of it.
By the way, eyes are my favorite part to draw, my favorite part to explore.
I like this version better than the previous
