Little New Yorker
A young girl (I'd say no more than 8 or 10 years old) and her guardian (couldn't tell if she was a parent or a relative or nanny) passed me on the subway platform earlier this evening. She was dressed in blacks and grays, something so un-child-like yet so New York. Her gray plaid coat worked perfectly over her black leggings, with just a hit of a gray chiffon leopard print skirt peeking out from underneath the coat. I loved it.

New Fall 13 | In Stride 2
A little bit at a time, especially since I'm drawing every day. Some days you just don't want to, but I persevere.

Fluffosaur
Someone in my Facebook friends list posted a pic of a bear that was losing its fur for unknown reasons, and it looked like something out of a horror movie, all angry looking and wrinkly skinned. We're so used to them being fluffy and adorable from afar that we forget that they're actually fierce predators. Well, I got to thinking in reverse about other fierce predators, namely the T.Rex: our assumptions about its appearance is based on adding skin and muscle to the fossil skeleton frameworks that have been found. But what if they were actually fluffy, with feathers maybe like those heirloom chickens?
I thought I was going to upload another runway sketch, but forgot I actually drew this yesterday!

New Fall 13 | In Stride
Starting out the new series. Naturally, starting fairly rough - don't have a clear idea yet how it's all going to look as I want to try newer things too, but people liked the runway sketches I did last time so I'll try a few more of them. I love striding poses anyhow.

Digital Bleed
Was reading design books during breaks in the Oscars and was intrigued by watercolors full of bleeds, so while I was waiting for the awards event to end, I decided I would draw/attempt a bleedy watercolor digitally once the show was done. But I didn't do it until the next day (never drink red wine before you're scheduled to do work. You won't be able to.). Anyhow, and this is an image of a really chic woman I passed on Sixth Avenue, with a cute haircut and even cuter outfit. Soooo cute.

Jawsome 6, DONE
Yup, I went back in and fiddled with it, unable to leave well enough alone. I feel bad that I changed so many details of the model, but I did seem to have a very strong idea of what I wanted, the model notwithstanding. This is one of those times where I drew in what I wanted to see and just used the model as the initial framework. Now that I posted it in full, it's 'officially' done, so hopefully I won't be tempted to fiddle with it any further!!

National Margarita Day!
I mean, who knew? Not that I'd say no. But not having any friends in tow nor any compelling reason to get out, I just made two lovely Apple Butter Frozen margaritas at home and drank them. This is what they looked like. Not much to look at, but trust, they're delish!

Jawsome 5
I think this may be done, as I was working on it quite a bit today, fiddling with little details like edge lines and color combinations. But I won't upload it until tomorrow, when I've decided whether or not to publish it elsewhere as well.

Tattoo Much 4
I had to go in and clean up the tattoo coloring. There's such a thing as too clean, but also of too messy - I had to approximate the balance of good tattoo work, something I'm woefully unfamiliar with. I kind of like the idea of tattoos, but would hate to have any because I can't stick to one look on my person permanently. Or as Karl Lagerfeld said recently, "It's like wearing a Pucci dress full time!"

Jawsome 4
I'm not trying very hard to get an exact likeness of my model Ridge's features. I'm sort of basing it on him and certainly his face is his, but I've tinkered a bit with the shape of his head, ears, nape, and even toyed with the shape of his mouth. I don't know if you could still consider this a portrait, but if he thinks it looks like him, that would be nice. I did play a bit with his hair today, among other things.

Tattoo Much 3
Gonna try and finish this one up. The problem with tattoos is there are bad ones and there are good ones, but the styles do have a certain line quality and level of draftsmanship that is not too detailed that they start not looking like tattoos.

Tattoo Much 2
I'm learning to control my procrastination, but I've been hesitant about drawing these tattoos (part of a bigger drawing) because I imagined they'd be a chore. I told myself nonsense, just jump into it and do it. Well, turns out I was right, and they ARE a chore, for reasons that I already envisioned: it's a much more controlled style to draw a tattoo, much less to do a composition of one. Ah well...

Tattoo Much
Trying to draw in a tattoo style, but it's not quite my style. Will get the hang of it. Anyhow, trying to make one of those hyper-dense compositions like they make on Tattoo sleeves, but with as many of the usual tropes as possible!

Jawsome 3
I'm enjoying just sketching little bits when I like, and finishing when I'm afraid to overwork it. Besides, it looks like my model to me, so I'm happy enough.

Jawsome
Been planning this sketch for a while now, to the point that I'm even wondering if I had already started it but forgotten I have. I don't recall one way or another, having pondered it for a while now. Anyhow, thought it best to finally get it started. My model's face is so familiar, it's surprisingly easy.
Baptiste Walks 2
If I'm not mistaken, he walked again today at Siki Im's show, but it was the clothing I focused on at the time, so I can't be sure. But here's a continuation of the sketch I started the other day, posted 'two ' days later because I was stuck at a couple of fashion parties earlier this evening and didn't get to post in time...

Baptiste Walks
I was researching models online and Baptiste, whom I drew, is one of the most popular male runway models right now. I found two photos of two exits of his from the same show, and the poses are pretty much identical. Kind of an ideal frozen frame of a man mid walk. So I decided to make a croquis.
Fall Colours
I've been restricting my wardrobe to a palette of black, white, gray, and navy of late, but after seeing my friend Robby's FW13 show, I was quite taken by his color combinations of grays, burgundies, and olives. Last night I had to go to dinner with a friend, as payment for my helping him out with his website, so I decided to pull a few of Robby's items from my wardrobe (from previous seasons, but in his usual colors) and make an outfit in a similar color story. My dinner mates and I ended up staying out past midnight, so I didn't make it home in time to do a sketch for yesterday, so here it is.

Amalgamation
I still don't have the wherewithal to start a new project or even continue an old one, at least, not with any seriousness, so I opened up Sketchbook Pro to finish up my trial a bit more. I'm still not in love with its interface, but that just takes getting used to I suppose. Anyhow, I started out thinking I was drawing a new model I've been into lately, Benjamin, but then got a bit of another model thrown in there. In the end, it looks like neither. And those eyes are totally dead. sigh. Oh well, it's just a trial. :)

Derek and his friend Heron
Derek and his friend Heron work out hard to avoid getting "chicken legs"... although in Heron's case that might actually be seen as an improvement.

Ducky, for now
Can I just take a breather from serious drawing and sketching for now? Because Fashion Week started and I'm sure I'll be fashion sketching away more than I want to...

4A 30th
I did a t-shirt design based on Patrick Nagel's artwork back 30 years ago, for a high school class shirt. Our 30th anniversary is coming up (ugh. Old!) so I thought I might redesign it for the 30th Anniversary. This is my initial sketch.

Sorbet
I spent so much time drawing and reworking and finalizing my sketches earlier today (hell, I didn't even leave the apartment at all) all I want to do is cleanse my palate with a non-committal drawing... which apparently has taken the form of a bear made out of cucumber, wearing an orange Prince Valiant wig.
Fashion In Progress: Robert Geller SS 2013
Well it's finally done. All the finished sketches in my Behance profile, but this here's the finished tableau.

Pre-Exit Smile 10
I kinda love how the clothing and accessories turned out. I was going to try and not render them too much, but I went ahead and just colored them all in. Theoretically, I would have consciously left them somewhat more undone to make them seem like natural media. It seems likeI've spent so much time on this but I was only drawing sporadically through the evenings, and perhaps sometimes in the day (especially when I got stuck on trying to rework some aspect of the drawing like his face), and technically I could have tried to finsh a sketch like this in a day or two. Not unlike the 'Stride" on a few days back...

Pre Exit Smile 9
Almost done! Working on the clothing now - trying to get it look as swiftly undone (yet done) as possible. Don't want it to look overworked (even if it might be)...
