Sleepytime

For whatever reason, I'm falling asleep at my desk and it's not even midnight! So I have no energy to draw, although I was bale to srcibble out a sketch of 'me' having a narcoleptic episode.

More of a crack about girliness than a compliment, my memory of the three besties with the three matching shoes refined a bit more.,.

I'm reminiscing about old outfits and clothes! This terry cloth number was my favorite in high school.

Drink Delays: Angels

Had a little cocktail party so drawing is delayed for tonight.

Edit: I wanted to do more sketches of my clothing from back in the day, and once of my faves were these flat slip ons called Chasers (I think they were made in Hong Kong) that my friends Norman and Erwin also wanted, so we had to bargain who would get which color because no one wanted to have teh same color as someone else. We all wore them to school at teh same time one day and walking side by side in stride, we were nicknamed Charlie's Angels (because both Erwin and I later came out as gay, but everyone knew already at that point, haha).

My Fave Pants

Back in the 80s, my mom brought me back a pair of cuffed parachute pants from New York that I was obsessed with. It was too fashion-forward to wear in Manila, yet here they were, brought for me by my mom, who egged me on to wear them because they  were the latest thing inNew York...never mind the risk of being beaten up as a fag in Manila. Naturally, I wore them.

I'd have done a more realized sketch but I'm 4 cocktails in and can barely manage this level of chicken scratch. Well, maybe not, but I choose to be sketchy.

Drawing New York

Briefly attended a nude modeling session earlier today but didn't  photograph any of the drawings I did yet, and I left early since I didn't have time to have lunch (and my stomach was growling). Next time I'll eat lunch earlier.

Sheena 2

Over two years ago I started a drawing of my friend Sheena but never got around to finishing it because I lost touch with the files as my computer crashed shortly after. I finally remembered and found them again just the other day, so I'm hoping my friend won't be pissed it took so long when I finally get around to presenting the finished sketch.

All American Girl

From the red white and blue, of course, but the face of America is changing all the time, and black is beautiful.

The Yoke's On Me

I was remembering a favorite pair of jeans form back in the 80s: not only did it have a high waisted yoke construction, but it was it acid washed AND overdyed purple!

Iron Fist

So far I'm rather enjoying the Iron Fist series, despite the critical savaging it got in its initial reviews. I look forward to watching next episodes because these characters were some of my favorites back in the day. So I thought I'd try drawing Iron Fist, but not in my typical standing poses, but maybe an action shot. Well, I kinda was able to lay out the pose with all its foreshortening—and you have to remember that I rarely drew male superheroes, much less in action poses—but I kinda got distracted by drawing the crotch, haha...

That Shirt

Back when I was a teenager, my mom and I found a shirt style that we liked so much, we had multiples made for me and my brother. I didn't realize that we were basically the only ones in the country who owned that style, and I liked it in particular because it had a T shaped construction that made it flow really well with a good woven cotton or linen. I wish I had one of those shirts now—we used to have so many in various colors and stripes...

Old Lines Renewed

I saw this sweater design in an ad in GQ, for what—if I recall correctly—was a Calvin Klein ad. I knew I would never find it in Manila, and even if I could have it found in the US, it would be way out of my price range. So I had it made for me in these exact colors by my mom's shop, and it was my favorite shirt for the longest time. Now that I can't own it again, I can just redraw it.

Yelow Ear 4

I don't know why I've procrastinatd on this sketch, but I guess because it ultimately wasn't something that made sense: it was a fashion sketch of backstage makeup, but without context, it because a weird yellow eared sexy zombie... for what exactly? Still, I started, and I might as well finish. This is more finished than it's ever been but not there yet...

Old's Cool Again 2

I turned off my outline layer and was so totally enamored of the reductive shapes that I decided to run with it. This reminds me of some old artwork I did for high school, but using velvet paper cuts.

High Rise

My next fashion item to stalk.I've had variations of these pants in one shape or the other, but I want one that's even higher-waisted but tapered now (I already have the wide leg versions).

Butch Crop

It's basically the Caesar haricut from the 90s, but with hard-lined bangs. It's the fashiony haircut often given to male models who are more body boys to make them edgy.

I retooled the balaclav drawing i did yesterday, just because.

In The Hoods

Two of my fave designers showed balaclavas for FW17. Thought it might be fun to combine them in a drawing.

Went to a figure drawing session expecting a male model, but the model who was there knew how to hold a pose, so she was fun to draw.

Pastel Bell Boy

The model's surname is Bell, but since I didn't bother to get a likeness, I'm not mentioning him by name since it looks nothing like him. But I did use a face shot of his as a reference for shading and proportions. And I rather like how it turned out.

Logan 2

Once I started tinkering, I kept on redrawing, just to make it just so (although not perfect). I kinda liked the immediate energy that did get lost a bit with the redraws... but the minute I'm done with a sketch, going back means I just see the flaws I need o correct...

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine's screen journey ended on a very good note. Very inspiring. I had to do a drawing.

Soloviere

I've been obsessed with Soloviere Paris' gathered laceup shoes, and trying to find them. So in my frustration, I dida quick sketch, trying (and failing) to get that French soigne in there. Ah well.

Spring Layer 12 DONE

AND DONE! OMG, this took forever, and I hadn't had any idea what to do with it, but it finally came together. I might have to renege on my idea to do it all as an array of multiple seasons of Second/ Layer. I just wasn't into the model. But hey, it's done, and I like how the techniques developed.
