Biggg 3
The problem with the volume renderings lies in the draping of the fabric, otherwise there could be a tendency for the forms just to look too solid and unrealistic. So I went back in and created the drapery within the silhouette.

Asian Edge 2
At least it's a nicer vignette now. I wasn't sure what to do with those hands so I just deleted one of them and refined the other.

Walk Back
I found myself watching men's swimwear fashion shows, which really are like Victoria's Secret shows in that people may not really be interested in the clothing so much as the models wearing them. But with today's fitness levels, it's amazing how much I was able to glean just by watching these guys walk back and forth on the runway. I often take for granted how to draw musculature because comics sort of trained me to make things up based on what other comicbook artists were doing. But as I matured as an artist (and lord knows, it took longer than I would ever have expected—if you told me it would take til now, I would have given up!) I realized how musculature works more, and how far I am from really drawing it the way it is, as well as stylized versions of anatomy. Anyhow, here's one of my studies. It's not as detailed as you probably expect mostly because I was focusing on the lower back muscles, but I imagine I'll flesh this out further later.

Asian Edge
As I was drawing that oversized silhouette fashion sketch yesterday, I still wanted to experiment with haircuts to make something edgy. And I'm wondering if there's something edgy that's sexy as well?

Biggg 2
I was thinking of a cool Asian haircut and this one keeps coming up in various magazines and online references. We're still in bowl cut territory so I wonder if there's anything else that would be edgy, and perhaps even sexy at the same time. Because I'm not sure they aren't mutually exclusive in current fashion, unless it's a more conventional buzz cut.

Biggg
I was inspired by a newly discovered Japanese brand but I wasn't sure how to do the massive wash effectively. This wet gouache technique isn't floating my boat.

Resolver
Grut brushes put out a new free brush and I wanted to test it out. This is their Resolver brush and it has a very similar dry brush effect to something I coincidentally just inquired about, from drawings of my online artist acquaintance, Richard Vyse.

ER (semi) Nude
This was another drawing I did in the ER, using my iPhone. It's not as good as it could be if I had more control than with my finger (not to mention suffering from a virus), but all things considered I'm getting more used to finger painting on that small screen (iPhone X). I started this Monday and touched it up a smidge to cast it for today's post.

She Could Be Veruschka
I didn't intend to draw Veruschka, but her features definitely resemble those of the legendary model.

Gown
This drawing came out of nowhere, from using the Acrylic Glaze brush. I just doodled a face and she kept building and refining until she was standing there in some feather chubby and a long black mermaid sheath.

Sick
I hate being sick. I hate the helplessness with being unable to do anything with your body as it tries to heal. And I hate the restlessness and discomfort you have to endure.
After over 70 working hours last week from Sunday to Sunday, plus a longer week than I had anticipated this week (I thought I'd be done by Wednesday but my co workers asked if I could come in and pitch in), not to mention gong to Oyster Bay for my friend's birthday plus a long-standing dinner with my lawyer friend, and it was clearly too much for my body. Or I suspect it was one of the people coughing up a storm in teh train for Oyster Bay, who knows. Anyhow here I am, bedridden...

Er 2
I'm playing with different brushes while home sick with teh flu, and posting a lot of make up drawings since I was working so much all week and didn't get to.

Er
In Filipino gay slang, an Er is a male archetype of a worker, whether Painter, Laborer, Construction Worker, Plumber, etc. I thought this guy looked like some British blue collar worker.

Clark?
I thought this quick ink sketch using the Gouache Thick Detail brush looked like one of the actors who once played Superboy.

Cinnamon Bark
This was a total experimentation drawing and I discovered two new ways of drawing: the first is a slightly different way to render a nose from this angle, and the second being the wet blending of the gouache brushes I've been using recently. And I named her so because I thought the brown I chose resembled the color of cinnamon bark.

Rocker Croquis
I gave his guy rock and roll hair as I was defining his face, so even if the pose is more of a general croquis, he's a rocker in my mind. Which is always a valid fashion muse!

Sculpthair 3
Man I thought this would be a no brainer but I'm apparently incapable of drawing a male face lately! I'm going to blame the intense work week I had designing a holiday brochure for work. 70+ hours in one week, with no days off! Ugggh. No wonder he ugly.

Hair Suite
A little play on hirsute, this was an Inktober sketch that got rough and gouached. I rather like the direction, but wonder if it's too raw to post?

Sculpthair 2
I'm so overworked with our holiday campaign at the office that I have barely any time or energy to draw. But this was a bit more detail from he previous sketch I started.

After Paddy
There was a pose in Prefab Sprout's old Appetite video where the view form above catches lead singer Paddy MacAloon in a nice bit of foreshortening. I thought I'd draw that for practice.

Inktober—Black Pompadour
This is a makeup drawing that I did on Sunday morning for last night, inspired by a pic I saw on the NYTimes' website. I love the Afro-rockabilly look, moreso on her (than say, Janelle Monae) because she was fuller-figured and completely shaved otherwise.

Inktober—Pancakes
This relatively well-dressed, heavy-set man was hovering outside the door of the local McD, begging for pancakes. Uhh, no. I did commemorate the sighting with a sketch while I was on the subway. I'm trying to sketch more during the day. The face to his left was a guy sitting in front of me, but I couldn't do more with teh short time between the 3rd Ave stop and the Bedford stop on the L.

Inktober—Shirt n Skinz 3
While experimenting with my color layers, I distilled the sketch down to a monochromatic look that I think didn't take away form the contrast of the pose with the nudity, and it kinda worked better than my original idea of a floral shirt. So this is a version fo what I had originally planned.

Inktober 2 & 3
I was drawing people on the subway, but I combined Tuesday's and Wednesday's into one canvas.... not that the sketches are ny great shakes, but it's the ink style I can manage on my iPhone.

Inktober—(Floral) Shirt n Skins 2
I've had this image in my head for the past few days, and while this
drawing is close and has some lines I like, I'm not quite sure it's exactly what
I imagined, which has remained pretty clear in my mind. I'll see if I just
go with what I've rendered or try and really get what I imagined on the
page.
