Padovane
My friend Ant posed for a sketch back in September, and I never got to really start it properly. I went through the pics the first time and didn't really have an idea. Now I think I can start though.

Couch Spread 3
I'm trying to tie up a lot of unfinished drawings. Maybe I'm inspired by Avengers Endgame and the final season of GoT. Finish it all up! This particular one was a difficult angle, and I was trying to be spontaneous with my lines instead of loyal to the likeness, so I'm not trying to do the latter.

Gym Concept
My friend Ernesto is planning on opening up a personal training gym in LA, and as much as I'd rather he remained nearby in NY, I'm helping him visualize what could be.

Gucci Pose
An email from an online retailer featured a model just standing in this pose, from a slightly-below-eye-level position. I thought the neck position was key.

Subway Rider
I was on my way to an event when the subway train suddenly stopped in the middle of the tunnel. It turns out some person was running rogue on the tracks and the police had gone in to try and get them out. We were delayed for several minutes with barely any power, and no reception, so I took out my iPhone and drew the guy in front of me to pas the time. Fortunately it wasn't too long, which is why the drawing is just a rough quickie.

Great Neck
I was working out earlier this afternoon and a guy on one of the machines posed in such a way that his neck was all I could see. It's a pose I've drawn before but it was inspiring to do again because of this guy.

Davi 3
I was fiddling some more with the face and brought up my original sketch, and found that the improvements weren't really improvements. So I went back to an older version and retooled that. Still not sure where this sketch is going...

Davi
I'm working on an idea I sketched about 3 or 4 years ago on an old envelope. It's still very clear on the doodle AND in my mind, so I might as well try. But I plan on using it for a sketch about a brand called Davi. The initial sketch is at the top, and this is the current iteration below:

Sweater Croquis
I was shopping the matches Fashion site and came upon an image of a model standing in a sweater, and it looked so much like a good croquis that I decided to draw it as such.

Lift That Shirt 2
I found a gap in my posts, even if reviewing the posts from around the time, it looked like there were drawings for each day, just not properly assigned.
I had clearly made minor adjustments to the original piece, but I also had a more nude rough that I didn't show, which should have been the first post. So here they both are.

Lift That Shirt
I kept thinking that after gaining about 150 follower on Instagram because a friend featured me in one of his stories, I should deliver on the nudity that most people look for in my feed. But I couldn't do it, especially since this one I started wasn't quite working...

Modern Menswear 3, Done
I decided I liked the old face I drew better, and I refined the clothing a bit more. So much cleaner and more fluid now.

Modern Menswear
I went to brunch yesterday with my friend Greg and stopped by Mast, a bookstore in the East Village that was brimful of amazing vintage books on art as well as a lot of artsy homoerotica. They had issues of vintage GQ from the late 50s early 60s, and I bought one with the amasing artwork of Harlan Krakowitz. I was surprised because the illustration style is something I already channel, but I thought I was refining Rene Gruau to something simpler (i,e, not as good, because Gruau is a master). Turns out, I might have imbibed the style from other illustrations through the years, but my mind tends to work by absorbing then forgetting the reference (or so I'm discovering).
Anyhow, directly inspired by the vintage illustrations, I sought to do one in my current iteration of it, but as modern as possible. To wit, a highly editorial African model in the vein of Fernando Cabral.

Modern (Super)Man
I've been thinking as I see guys were the shorts over tights look regularly at the gym, that if you told people in the 50s to draw the future, they would usually draw the classic superhero look of superman, i.e. tight underneath underpants. In a way, we've come to this future, and it's just not the way mankind originally imagined, except it also is.

Manfred Manspread
I found a pic online of a guy sitting down, and the folds in his trousers made me want to do a slightly more risque version: voila, Manfred the Manspreader.

Leg Up
I wanted to do another pose in the Flasher series, this time inspired a bit by Ryan Gosling's Perfect Guy character in that movie whose title I can't recall, but where he lifts up his leg to display his goods (albeit obscured to the audience) to Steve Carrell. First sketch, but there's something no right yet about the pose.

Painted Head, Too
And this is my more original take on yesterday's ideas, based on trying to find the right brushes to work with.

Painted Head
I went over to The Strand bookstore today and I'm always inspired by the books there. I was also examining how my mind works, as I would see things I liked and an idea to mimic the visual would pop into my head, but as I saw more stuff, they would start to merge. It's definitely inspiration, but the remix going on makes it my own, I suppose. Still, I felt like I was cribbing and swiping, in a bad way. Anyhow, it always changes drastically when I render anyway, because my skills only go so far. So she was the first (rough) idea.

Flasher Fridays 4
I'm not sure what the end result of these doodles will be. Maybe the doodles will be it. But for now, here's a third figure in the flasher tableau.

SH Filson Shirt 2
I refined the drawing a bit—very subtle changes, but for me it's the subtle ones that fine tune the sketch. In this case, it was about cleaning up the linework to make it as minimal as possible, particularly where I lose it completely in the shoulder as well as on the drwing's left edge, where the shadow and white are very clean and subtle. My original vision was to have no linework and make it more about blocks of white, but after I drew it I wanted to keep the face and hair as it was sketched.

SH Other shirt
I tried drawing another one of the shirts I tried on at the shop the other day but couldn't recall its name. But it's fine for now since I 'm not too keen on this drawing just yet.

SH Filson Shirt
I went shopping this evening and fell in love with a new line of shirts called SH. But at their steep prices, I couldn't afford to buy one (it was the same price as medium level outerwear!) so I decided to draw my favorite one.

Inky Blue
While drawing the flasher series I started adding more detail to one sketch, and i diverged from what I originally set out to do. But that's the fun in doodling! I'm not sure why my men of late are starting to look like Asian American jocks.
