I think I actually had fun doing this, painting a metallic gold finish. I used photo references but I basically took details here and there but also faked it as soon as I got a feeling for how to render it. I think it turned out fairly well.

I think I've been sleeping late...or rather, early, as in the wee hours... a lot this week. And it doesn't look like it's gonna stop. But the guy is one of the last two to be sketched, and next it will be painting.

It's very hard to post on this blog when I'm in the midst of a challenging (albeit fun) commission. When I have to do many figures in a short amount of time, there's a lot of anticipation and also a lot of working, and not wanting to deal with the work after (esp in my supposed private life, i.e. my own account of my drawing). And I can't really show the work in full, just bits and pieces. Except this guy: he was cut from the lineup, so technically, he's all mine now.

 I dunno if I can say it's done, as I am tempted to add more models in this tableau. But I did post it on Instagram already which might be telling that it's actually done. Anyhow, I love how the white pants shadows turned out.

And now there are two guys!  I'm wondering if I should keep going with the tableau? Maybe add a lot of models milling about, like it was some big group shoot on location somewhere, lol...well, not in those basic outfits tho!

It's funny, I sketch one thing out, then realize I didn't really read ther brief and I sketch in missing details, then later I realize I need to change the original sketch altogether because I've changed my mind about being satisfied with it. Such a process...

As usual, I'm working almost all night drawing when it should be easier, but to be fair I love this work. Figuring out a sketch is a joy to do, even if the anticipation beforehand is a bitch.

My friend Ernie posted a pic of a drawing done of him as a child, and since he's my regular nude model, I suggested we update it to his new, kinda thirsty self (i.e. nude). and these were the sketches I sent suggesting how it would look.

Still not sorted with my new iMac, so I don't have access to all my drawing files. But in need of something to post on Instagram I decided to ferret out an old piece for Flashback Friday, and this one turned up. From 2015, originally for a onesie/jumpsuit drawing that I did for a yoga line a friend was planning, but the garment was canceled by my friend.

I did some corrections on his face and legs, so it counts as my drawing for today.

Tilt and Stretch

 I still don't feel comfy enough with my Mac to sit down and really draw. I dunno why. Maybe it's because I feel so incomplete with my files in other hard drives and in my old computer. So this was a half-hearted sketch...

This dry out brush has potential, but I probably have to experiment more with it to see how it can be added to my repertoire.

New Brush, Retro Fashion

An alt version to yesterday's brush has me drawing 70s fashions, including the clip-on ringlet 'sideburns' that were so popular back in the late 60s/early 70s. I remember my mom had a pair in her dresser mirror, that attached to your hair with hair pins.

Since I'm working on a new iMac, I still don't have my systems back to the way they were, and I'm discovering brushes I never bothered to try before. This one, the Gouache G Blair Dry, made me sketch in an 80s fashion illustration mode.

Playing with the ExpressInk brush, I was reading about actor Lee pace and thought this reminded me of him. I wonder if I was channeling him at all, as I don't know if it resembles him much.

I finally sorted out his hands and feet, as well as teh details on the cat and nude male behind him. He's done finally!

I was finally able to retrieve some files from my groaning old iMac to draw for my own sake versus just for work. Maybe this guy finally gets finished, as I posed for some reference shots for the hands which have been my focus on this piece.

I'm still getting used to my new iMac, ugh I hate this unsettled feeling.

So I got my new iMac up and running enough to finish this job, but I dunno how I'm going to sort out my storage situation, as I had to settle for an iMac that has half the storage space as my old one...

Accidentally turning off some layers left me with a coloring style I don't ever do, but really like here in one of my figures from this project.

This was a crazy time in this project. My iMac has been failing so I had to rush out and get it diagnosed, in the middle of my project! I hope I can make it in time, otherwise I think this client will hate me forever! Ugh, Murphy's Law...

Analog Interlude

I'm drawing like a madman on my new iMac while still trying to port over old files for my own not-work sketches. I thought I;d do a pencil sketch on my notebook but I'm honestly not feeling it right now— too much tumult with getting this new Mac sorted.

Since these are presentation illos, I have to hem closely to what the clients are hoping to show. Lots of guesswork for me mostly because I don't know if I've established my own style enough to say, you want ME. lol

I got another commission from my returning client, so I'm thrilled but also trepidatious because it's a rush project due in less than a week! But these are some of the initial roughs I presented to show the outfits. Women's again, woohoo!

Vortex

I don't know how this brush got its name but I'm neither keen on it nor its effects, but that's why we test them out.

Pigmentia

 Testing out some of Kyle Webster's Fall 2021 brushes, this one called Pigmentia. Hmm. Meh.

Sensitive

My new tablet is taking some getting used to, as it is changing how some of my favorite brushes handle. There's a lot more subtlety to the Ruffin Brush, for example, and it's vastly different from how I drew with it before.

Expressink Writing

I wasn't able to draw on my computer yesterday because my Intuous 3 pen died after a misguided attempt to disinfect it frazzled its circuits. But it was something I'd used since 2008 so it was time to get a new one. So now, on November 2, I'm posting a makeup sketch for November 1 now that I have over 4000 levels of sensitivity in my new Wacom tablet, and I'm testing out the on the ink pens that I didn't find very impressive the first time, The Expressink. Wow, it really works for typography, it seems. The sketch on the left isn't much compared to teh ragged strokes on the calligraphy beside it.
