Nino Azul part 2

Actually his screen name on IG is Ninozul, but it was an inadvertent portmaneau of Nino Azul. Anyhow, my new buddy Jose graciously made time in his visit for another drawing session, and I think I got a couple of good drawings out.

Sweater Kid 3

I'm tinkering with this guy's face, going for the non-traditionally handsome guy look, but not sure if it's not handsome enough.

I really like this pose, I just need to hammer out teh particulars of his legs and maybe just how much penis shows through. Because that's almost kinda the point, no?

It's always a good mindless thing to edit a sketch versus start a new one_correcting something is a way smaller endeavor requiring less commitment, especially with a doodle. So this guy gets played around with on my iPhone whenever I'm bored in the rain..

Save The Date 4

My clients weren't happy with the reality of the photos we took, and wanted something more Instagrammy. Well, I knew exactly what they meant, so here's the "I'm casually walking in a natural way while smiling and looking perfect" Which I can do. It's just, so insta. Meh.

Niño Azul

Met the lovely and beautiful Jose this evening, for an Instagram sketch session that turned into dinner and a hang out. He was lovely!  And such a wonderful body to draw. This was a sketch I gave him to keep because he seemed to see himself in it a lot, which pleased me so I wanted him to keep it.

Atlas Brush CD

I'm not quite sure what this brush is for, but I tried it out tonight and it's a good for textural applications.

Widespread

This guy was inspired by a Rootstein mannequin pose from the Ten Teens collection, where one of the guys is standing with his legs wide apart in a similar way... I'm quite happy with how this serendipitous sketch turned out, considering I faked the anatomy.

I keep drawing until it feels right, but then if I look at a model in a simliar pose to what I started extemporaneously (like these two boys) I still have to correct it even if it looks right already.

Western Face

Western, as in cowboys. I was doodling another time on my iPhone and I sketched away, trying to embrace serendipitous lines and shapes. He's turned into some sort of square faced cowboy...

I saw an ad campaign and decided my sitting guy should have a modern  dreadlocks 'do.

I'm designing a holiday card and wondered if I can leverage a recycling/eco-friendly theme. So I drew a plastic bag.

I went looking into my recent archives for a drawing to continue and possibly post on Instagram, and I wondered why I stopped developing these guys. I also wondered how far i should develop them, especially since I seemed to recall a lot of clothing being planned. Well, for now you have penis.

Save The Date 3

Sorting out an option for my wedding illustration client. I feel like this makes a better drawing for their Save The Date, but I think the more standard portrait will likely appeal to them.

I was trying to do something interesting with his hands and didn't finish up properly (as you can see by that horribly long right arm). Drawing from your head can be hard!

I decided to eliminate the silhouette altogether and just focus on the suggestive lines. I like it better this way.

Lubricious

A few weeks ago I got a project to design a line of personal care products, from logos to illustrated packaging. It's a fun line and I have been pretty calm about my design process, although considering it's due tomorrow I think I might be rushing tonight! These were sketches I made of ideas I had while doing my R&D. And as you can see, I'll draw on any sheet of paper lying around...

I think the sketch looks like them, but it feels so... bland and stiff. I'm going to have to explore alternate layouts.

I got a commission to draw a gay couple for their upcoming nuptials, as a unique, fashion illustration style portrait for the Save The Date mailer. This is the initial rough sketch.

I retooled him, just wanted to get some delineation inside that mass of wool that I had determined was a sweater. Things are always better with a little head, lol

White Trench

So this is supposed to be my 4500th post, although I seem to have over 4600, so I dunno what's up with that, lol. Anyhow, I'm sure I've screwed up my numbering system through the years but the good thing is I've kept up with it, regardless of whether or not anyone is actually watching.

It's been hard posting my drawings on time this past week, because I'm three weeks into a new job, and it's been very taxing working for a Big Pharma agency—I come home just wanting to do nothing! But I do make up for it by drawing when I can. Fortunately, I'm on a simpler line kick, and that means I can bust them out faster, when I have the time!

Not 100% sure this guy is done, but there's potential here. His face was a quick sketch that was just fun right out the bat, with nary a stray line in place...

Again with the Deliciously Dry brush. I love how it makes everything look so masterful and painterly. I feel like a bit of a sham because I wonder how much of the beauty is from my skill, versus what the brush does? But then again, the brush does a few different things, and I DO know when to tread softly versus heavy on the pressure...

You'd think I'd leave well enough alone with the simplicity, but the fun of the digital medium is that you can keep experimenting without harming the original. So now he's all color blocky.

Well, the file is actually called DeliciouslyDry Sweater, after the brush I'm obsessed with, as well as the successive motif of this drawing, a pose I've done before and will no doubt do again. i first did it for a huge Raymond Dragon painting back in the day, and this is but the most recent iteration of it. Looser and more minimal.

Hand Shadow, Done

I figured I needed to finish this guy up today,on the last day of Labor Day Weekend, to close out Summer. I spent a lot of time just cleaning up his hands and the linework, and I'm fairly happy with it.
