Girl On The Train

Decided to draw this woman sitting in front of me while taking the train to meet Ernesto and his friends at noon. It's not a portrait but it's a fair drawing considering how clumsy I am with my fingers on the small-ish iPhone X screen (at least for drawing!).

Haider Lips

This model off Haider Ackerman's SS19 runway show had the most striking lips, so I decided to try and learn how to draw them, by using a pic as a reference but drawing it flipped the other way.

Pantless

New media always inspire me. This drawing, for example, started out as a doodle but got finished in (for me, lately) record time, considering there's more of an idea behind it. Maybe 20 minutes? Reminds me of when I used to paint fashion illustrations while answering phones at my first job here in NY.

Color Study 4

I've been DMing on IG with a guy who makes suits, and he and I chatted about collaborating, but I couldn't find an idea to draw. I realized, hmm, the tobacco color I drew originally is his featured suit color, so maybe I transform this drawing into  that collab? So far so good...

Color Study 3

I'm encouraging myself to be messy and experimental. With digital work, you can always have teh safety net of a previous version, whether saved or in Photoshop's history. Adding the heavier pinks to his face has improved the view from afar (versus up close, which is how I'm working, because if it's viewed as a whole image, the face is lacking in depth). And I took out the tobacco color form his pants just to see the body better. For now.

My (digital) gouache style is evolving. Well, beginning. I was never into gouache becasue it wasnt precise enough for me. Now, I'm all about looseness, so hello new medium!

I love finding color stories in things I find. While shopping for furniture on the site CB2, the color story from 3 items that the website suggested inspired a graphic but very soft, au courant color mix.

That's the name of the Grut brush I used for this quick 3 minute~ish sketch. I do like the stance and the view.

Unfurling

I love images of people falling. Partly my idea of  Fallen Angels (a series I wanted to do back in my 20s) and partly because of Robert Longo's iconic men in the cities. This might be a new series, or just a one-off or two. Who knows?

Floppy

I drew quite a few things yesterday since I went to a drawing session at Leslie Lohman, but I drew this guy earlier in the day, inspired by an idea in my head. I have to admit I think I got the pose I was thinking of right, although I cropped it for now since I want to suss out the details before posting..

Sepia Nude

Well, it started out as Cyan + K, but I changed things up as I was working, and I really liked this old school gouache brush background. I might have to experiment further with the rawness of this brush.

Couch Spread 2

There's something about spontaneous inspiration that you can't duplicate. I thought Id develop this drawing further and refine it, but the spontaneity of the lines keeps getting lost. This is possibly the 4 iteration I've done of this where I keep reverting back to the old face. It's the war between trying to make a good drawing versus trying to get a good likeness of the photo I took. Still, there's some progress on the final technique I intend to use...

Couch Spread

I've been obsessed with crotch shots lately. In this day and age when nudity is commonplace, the only way to be even more provocative is to take it almost to the limit, and this is pretty porny. Or so I think. I'm certainly getting a bit hot and bothered as I draw this, but I always fall in love with my subjects when I have a model pose for me, which is why I'm very selective about my models for my personal projects.

French Hair

I was watching movie clips of the actor Louis Garrel, and he has the most magnificent nose, and hair. I don't know what it is about French men and their hair, but there's something so sexy about how they're tousled, but I can't seem to capture it in a drawing. This was done with the Vine Stick brush.

Those red speedos were screwing with my proportions, I thought. But I'm not sure all this cyan is helping either!

I kept trying to add more to this sketch but also took out a lot because I realize its appeal is in how minimal it is. Not sure this version is adding what it needs to be improved.

iPad Sketch #2, part 2

Seems like I haven't touched my iPad much in recent months, so I was sitting in front of it using it for what I always d—watch anime or Netflix with it—and decided to play around with this sketch again. I started on the iPad, actually, then went into Photoshop on my desktop after. But not sure about those red Speedos.

I wonder if it's the cyan hat make the technique for me? I tried it with other colors and it doesn't look as intentional.

Had an idea for a new drawing and laid it out quickly roughly. Ironically, the act of laying out teh drawing in rough can be counterproductive to preserving the idea, because then the idea starts looking like teh rough in my head if I don't realize whats in my mind quickly enough...

Shadow Boy 2

I revised his body but haven't felt it was good enough to post yet, but I do like how his hair turned out. It's kind of old school comicbook inking.

I was going to make this a quickie throwaway sketch but the face turned out nice than I thought, which is inspiring me to do a better job on the body. He's called Shadow Boy because I'm experimenting with a technique where I draw in the shadows first, randomly and without reference, then see if I can carve out the linework above it, based on those shadows. So far so good. Oh look, a penis.

Spanish Moustache

I find that Spaniards love the whole hipster 'stache thing, or at least the ones I've met and known. So I started out with the requisite cropped hair and 'stache, and then for some reason I had this crouching post in my head...

I cleaned up some details on his face but mostly, I added the toga. Now, what IS his backstory?

I really should do more creative flourishes with my drawings. I spend so much time just drawing plain faces, when back in the day I did fantastic costume designs, and cool visuals. Just adding laurels to this otherwise ordinary face made it come alive with so much possible backstory.

Fashion Flasher 2

I just wanted to correct a few things, not really errors but things that would make me more comfortable posting this on Instagram. I dunno why, I feel like its more 'published' when it's on there, versus here where I'm more than willing to hazard quite a few failures and test runs.

Correct-a-croquis

Pinterest was showing me other pins I might like, and one fashion illustration croquis posted was so incorrect, it infuriated me that someone was putting this level of bad online as if people should follow it. So I corrected it and was going to post it in response, but then I didnd't want to be so mean. But here's the corrected version I made.
